  2. I love those things.
  3. KELSEIR SURVIVE MISTING COSMERE HARMONY
  4. Can someone remind me how both Hoid and the sorcerer are able to use elantris magic on Lumar? Isn't that a big no-no for you to use elantris magic off of Sel, since that magic is powered by Sel's investiture storm? While you're at it can you tell me how Moonlight was able to use that magic on Scadrial in TLM? I vaguely remember hearing something about a moon scepter, but I'd love for someone smart to come spell this out for me. Thanks in advance
  5. 2179 You'd be surprised. (TM)
  6. I'm sorry. Let me tell you a secret though. People don't change quickly. I think sometimes as humans we forget that--- I know I do. We all want so desperately to change, that we are willing to put our faith in anything that will give us a better chance of change then we have on our own. I suspect that's why people buy lottery tickets, even when the odds are enormously against them. We're so dang tired of trying to change over and over and over and over again, and failing every time. And so we stop putting faith in ourselves to change, and instead invest that faith into something else. Like, for example, a lottery ticket. I've asked myself many times before, "will I ever be able to change?" I was feeling really discouraged one day when I saw a statistic from the CDC saying that 71% of smokers want to quit every year, but only about 7% actually are able to quit. I mean, if anything proves that we can't change, it's that. But then I kept digging, and found something really interesting. Of past and present smokers currently living in the united states, about 70% are past smokers, and only 30% are current smokers. Think about that for a second. About 71% of smokers want to quit each year, and even though it doesn't look like it's even worth seeing when you look at those statistics for a year, when you compare that to a lifetime, the results are quite the opposite. 70% of smokers have quit, and 71% have wanted to. Please believe me when I say: You can change. It will take time. if you wanted to bet on something that would change you today, or tomorrow or right now, then honestly... you'd probably have better luck with the lottery ticket. But if you labor a little while longer, then slowly you will change. Best wishes, you have my confidence in you, and my prayers.
  7. We sang "I'm trying to be like Jesus" in seminary the other day and I legit started crying in front of the class haha. It had just been so long, and the lyric "I try to listen as a still small voice whispers love one another as jesus loved you..." Just hit me in a totally different way. I think it's easy for those primary songs to become cliche and tired but those truths that they hold are things that are just as valuable to me now as they were then. It was a lesson to me, to not dismiss primary songs, or primary kids as too simple, or lacking in understanding.
  8. A consistent period of time between two events is called an Isochronism. (1) I've always loved that word, it just has this powerful ring to it. I love it so much that it has a place in my most recent complete novel, the name of one of the fictional cults. This thread, in a sense, is the opposite of isochronism. My replies are sporadic, and the questions more so. Regardless of what you may think, this is not a bad thing. It creates this feeling of anticipation and mystique surrounding my responses. Either that, or I'm giving myself way too much credit... but there's no way. Which means that this moment is the one you all have been waiting for... The future is now. We have 2 questions today, both of which I'm excited to answer. So firstly, I'm flattered that you're asking. I really love writing those essays, and if I could be known for anything on the shard, I would love for people to remember those. Yes, I plan on writing more, although I'll note that not all of them will be about books. The point is to highlight great stories, no matter what the format of those stories are. If you stay tuned my next essay is probably going to be about Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse. I just need to sit down and actually finish editing that dang thing. The thing about the shard is, now that school is in full-swing I'm low on time. It's really annoying actually, because I don't have time for all the weird side-projects I love so much. Things like writing super long responses in my AMA thread. I still love doing those things, but that type of silly writing has to take a back seat to my required essays, and my main writing projects, and my homework. And that's why you sometimes have to wait forever to get a response from me, so I hope you'll excuse the tardiness. This is a great question, but here's the thing: There's "living" and there's living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere outside of my current location really, just because of state and national policies, leaders, etc but that doesn't change the place that I would love to spend time over the summer, or for periods of a few months where I wanted to get writing done. That place is the oregon coast. The beaches up there are unreal. The mood they carry is so perfect, calming in just the right way. (2) I love the misty days, dark and cloudy and gloomy in a cozy and relaxing way. I love the waves crashing not against sand, but against huge dark rocks, loud and majestic. I love the cliffs overlooking the sea, and the lighthouses that rim the coastal towns. I love the sea-food, the salty breeze, and the cold water--- so different from california's warm beaches where people sunbathe. The tide pools and caves you find at those beaches are also amazing. If I could own one of those tall glass beach houses, on the edge of a cliff overlooking the waves... holy cow I'd love that. Oregon Coast just carries a different mood and that mood is very hard to describe, but if any of y'all have been there you'll know what I mean. Anyway, some wisdom: If you're bored, put out a complaint box at your office, and everyone will assume HR put it out, then whenever you're bored you can entertain yourself by just reading all the petty office gossip. And since there were two questions I'll obviously give you some more wisdom. Wisdom part 2: Sorting books by color makes librarians mad, so that is not the way to make a librarian happy. If you want to really make their day, try sorting the pages by number. (3) Of course, I sort my books the normal way. Alphabetically. (by first sentence.) May your day proceed swimmingly.
  9. What's the most creative question you've ever seen on an AMA thread?
  10. on a scale of 1 to 10 how many toes would you give up for a proficiency in a random skill guaranteed to help you in your life.
  11. Hey! I copyrighted that! (The whole doing your 100th post on your 101st post. ) What's your hairstyle? What's your favorite hairstyle on other people? If you had to go bald or grow a beard which would you do?
  12. Haha my brother is in Texas... what mission did your cousin have?
  13. Is your name russian? What's the translation? PLEASE explain. A genie gives you 3 wishes, but he will only grant wishes that will noticeably make your life worse. He loves loopholes though so if you find one that isn't wishing for the rules not to exist, he'll be happy to grant the wish. What do you wish for? What time do you plan on waking up tomorrow?
  14. No, I wish I knew how to get access to it, but I've never done the research. TPBM is in class right now,
  15. He who can destroy a thing has the real control over it.
  16. I want to make enough Harry Potter movies that I can buy Canada. I'll start by splitting the last book into 2 movies, then splitting each of those into 4 movies, then splitting every other book into 5 movies... I'll be so rich.
  17. I choose to run towards my problems, and not away from them. Because's that what heroes do. -Thor
  18. Oh most certainly. TPBM would likes it when strangers provide oddly specific psychic readings of the future, especially when those concern them...
  19. It's a shame, I've met the greatest people for sure... Respect for you finding the guy's email though, best of luck to you.
  20. That's awesome, I'm part of WIDL myself, another independent league for homeschoolers.
  21. Any chance I'll be able to find that talk even if I can't attend? Online option, youtube, etc? I just love Brandon Sanderson talks/speeches.
  22. People are always saying that "90% of long distance relationships never work out" (or some other statistic that they obviously made up on the spot) and it annoys me. Here's the deal. 99% of ALL relationships don't work out, and that's doubly true in high school. (Yes that statistic is one of the 83% of statistics that's made up on the spot, but I'm just trying to make a point here.) It probably won't work out. Take it from someone who knows: it's worth it anyway. That 1% of relationships that end up working out are so worth it. And those 99% that don't will teach you a lot. So yeah, text the guy. Today if you can. Just say, "Did you know that 83% of statistics are made up on the spot?" And he'll be like "what the crap r u talking about who r u" (because he's terrible at using proper punctuation and he is silly and he shortens "you" to "u" even though it doesn't make any sense) and then you're like "Funny story, I'm actually..." then you go on introduce yourself and correct his terrible grammar. It works every time. Or text and say literally anything else, just make it casual at first, don't second guess yourself, and be confident. Most guys are pretty chill so he won't be mad at you and he probably won't even think it's weird in any way. (At best, he'll be flattered.) And if you don't have his number, call in a favor with one of your debate friends. Figure out someone who knows! Out of curiosity, what debate league are you part of? Also, resurrecting dead threads is fun, don't listen to anyone who says otherwise. I definitely "grin" upon it.
