  1. Yeah, the equivalent in another magic system is a definite option. And again, I'm not saying that I believe that AonDor is the interaction of the two Shards. Currently, most evidence points toward it being related to Aona. But I'm trying to explore different options here, since I'm having difficulty thinking of a name that works. And while ROSHtafARian (which is an awesome handle, by the way. I keep waiting for him to end his posts with Ramen, or some Rosharian equivalent. Note that I'm assuming this is related to pastafarianism. If I'm wrong, I will happily stand corrected and ignore the fact that I was corrected.) gives a very good explanation, I still don't feel like Harmony is a strong enough tie-in to be the exact name of the Shard, though I'm fairly convinced that it's along the right lines.
  2. Me too, zas, me too. But we don't fail at information, so if we get all the good, awesome detail in there, the people who don't fail at wikis can come along and make us feel stupid.
  3. Yes, but it's also formatted fairly badly, making it difficult to read, and also includes extra information that isn't necessarily relevant (like the chapter epigraphs, though I admit that the viewpoint character and a summary of what happened in the chapter is nice. Though I think that would actually work better on the summary page than it would on the page with this table). Maybe I'll start adding that. If, you know, I ever actually finish the summaries.... And I would do it myself, but I know absolutely nothing about making tables in wikis... Also, we do strive to keep the Coppermind as complete as possible. This is a good resource, and where it's being freely shared, we really ought to get it added. EDIT: And zas replied before me. But at least I'm now spared the trouble of figuring out how wiki tables work. Though it probably wouldn't hurt for me to look it up. Starting to look better, Zas! Granted, it's still got a bit of work, but I'm thinking we're going in the right direction.
  4. , mostly because they
  5. Interesting indeed. Can you put it in a table on the wiki so it'll be a bit easier to read?
  6. Also, keep in mind that that's the alternate ending. The entire location of the Well of Ascension changed, if I recall correctly, so it's perfectly reasonable to assume that Ruin's lake might not be as close. That, and the Pits of Hathsin aren't that far from Luthadel, apparently. A couple of days. Which seems to fit with the number of logbook entries we get between the mist spirit knifing the random guy and alendi making it to the well of ascension. Oh, and I believe that Fedik was one of Alendi's friends. I'm not really sure what I meant when I talked about one of Rashek's friends getting knifed.
  7. Well, as I was recently informed (ie about 15 minutes ago), Brandon has confirmed that Lightsong has a splinter of the Divine nature in him that allows him to see the future (and I did find the q&a. I can get a link if you want). The Returned holding Splinters of Endowment would be a big deal indeed, as it means that it's possible for a Shard to be Splintered and still very much alive. It would also make sense for the Shard to be able to reclaim the splinter, or else the Returned hold incredibly small Splinters, and Endowment is getting weaker all the time. Now whether a splinter = a Splinter is another debate, but just the wording makes it seem as though it's the same thing. I see the lake in Elantris as being akin to liquid Ruin and liquid Preservation. It's the place that their power gathers, and being there allows you to hear the voice of the Shardholder, or what's left of it.
  8. But there again, it doesn't fit with the pool. Or AonDor. Or necessarily the Elantrians.
  9. flavored ramen. Nevertheless,
  10. Well, technically you could. You'd just have to lash the object to yourself. However, since this seems to manipulate gravity on the object somehow, you'd have to either a) lash it very carefully so it didn't come crashing into you, or lash it to a couple of other things as well. If you're talking about something like I step, and the object I lashed to me moves, I stop and so does it, I doubt that it's possible to attain the degree of control for something like that to happen without a serious amount of concentration. And it's not really useful enough to warrant said concentration.
  11. I just found something about Lightsong having a splinter of the divine nature in him in an interview, so it would appear that you're right. Though I wonder if a splinter in this instance is the same as a Splinter? Good call on that one. And now it's time for me to go read the rest of that interview, since I actually hadn't seen it before. I agree that Odium likely has Shards that have an overall benevolent nature to counter it. Like, say, Endowment, amongst others. I just don't think that Odium has to have a polar opposite as that would be something like Love, which is just kind of a lame Shard. Several benevolent Shards can balance one that isn't. In fact, so far as we know, of the Shards we've seen, only Ruin and Odium (and possibly Bavadin) are not benevolent-natured Shards. It would seem that Odium not having a polar opposite would work better in making up a balanced whole. About the Shin and Cultivation, that makes a lot more sense. For whatever reason, I was reading it as them worshiping her, which really doesn't make all the much sense.
  12. I'm actually beginning to wonder if AonDor is caused by the interaction of two shards (like Feruchemy). But I have nothing other than my idle wonderings to support this. Harmony would be a reasonable name as well, though I don't think it's quite as perfect a fit as most of the other Shard names have been. I agree, Relief doesn't really fit with AonDor, and I can't really see any way to make it do so. Anything that I can throw out there is really a stretch. Though if AonDor is not exclusively Aona's, it might work. I still am not advocating Relief, though. Hmmm....In point of fact, I can't think of anything that really fits both AonDor and the pool at the moment. Everything that really seems to fit the one doesn't actually fit the other very well at all. Something that I just remembered: Skaze = Evil Seons. This makes it seem to me that it's entirely possible that AonDor is not actually strictly related to Aona's Shard, but rather the interaction between Aona's and Skai's.
  13. I'd say it matches too closely to not be Ruin's liquid form. The geography got shifted around the Well of Ascension, so it would make sense that the same thing happened with Ruin's lake. If you're Rashek and you know what it is, wouldn't you want that power to be as far away from where people could do anything with it as possible? Now if you're Rashek and you don't know what it is, I have no idea why you'd decide that the random scary lake needs to be stuck deep underground except that a random mist spirit knifed your friend there..... EDIT: Blast! Link beat me to it. Oh well, I'll leave it.
  14. Well apparently you, as you made a guess at the thinking of a Shard exactly one post before I did. Also, it's important to note that while the Shards really aren't human anymore, they once were. And so far, each and every one of them has had a reason for all of their actions, even if it's just that their Shard's nature is to want to screw the entire planet over. A couple of clarifying notes: There is no confirmation whatsoever that Returned are Splinters of Endowment (in fact, in my opinion, the fact that Endowment is still alive is reason to believe the opposite). There is no confirmation whatsoever that the Elantrians are Splinters of Aona. Is it possible? Yes. Is there anything other than speculation to make us believe it is so? Not really. Ok, so that really wasn't very much on clarification, but still. I agree that the Almighty isn't any one trait matched to an Order of Radiants. I still think that Change or Transformation are good concepts for him. I am not convinced that Odium has a polar opposite, and I seem to recall Brandon saying somewhere that not all Shards do. I'll try to dig it up, but until I find the quote, don't take this as fact. I often misremember stuff. Just out of curiosity, why do you think the Shin worship Cultivation? That seems a little odd to me, as the Shin hold stone to be sacred (and apparently stormlight as well). Stone doesn't exactly lend itself well to cultivation, you know?
  15. Yeah, that was my thinking too. And I get that Lashing to another object is not necessarily the case. It was just the easiest way to explain it.
  16. That also goes along with the fact that the Shin refuse to mine for metals because it harms rock. However, I fail to see how that means that stone is the physical manifestation of their god. All it really means is that stone is sacred. The more important question there is why do the Shin find stone to be so sacred? And I think that Stormlight being regulated is as good a guess as any. From what we've seen, his abilities aren't necessarily what make him Truthless, though they could be.
  17. Well if I recall correctly, Ruin was weakened because he didn't have access to his full power right then. Once the Atium was burned, it would eventually reform, and Ruin could find it and reincorporate it into his body or something like that. My memory of the whole Mistborn Trilogy is a little hazy at the moment. Time for some re-reading. Following this logic, if you destroyed the Atium (which I'm not even sure is possible....the matter that made up Ruin's body would still exist in some form or another, so it'd just be extremely small amounts of atium, or atium alloys), it would eventually just reform. Unless you completely destroyed the matter somehow. And I don't know about you, but in my opinion the term "Splinter" doesn't particularly go with the process you describe. Her shadow being at the pool makes a lot of sense. Time for an Elantris re-read as well... Sigh. So much to do..... As for what her Shard is, I'd say relief would be a good guess. Or something similar. Her being the pool also makes a lot of sense in explaining why the Elantrians can get relief there. When they enter the pool, the portion of Aona's power that they hold can be assimilated back into the whole. In fact, I have to wonder if the theory that's going around that the Elantrians hold splinters isn't correct, and if all of the Elantrians were to enter the pool, the Shard would be whole again.
  18. I agree, and that's why it survived my speculation purging earlier today, but I just wasn't sure. A speculation section could be effective, though a lot of them would only have one or two things that needed to be put there, which kind of seems like a waste.
  19. I think I love you.
  20. Is it confirmed that there are 16 Shards of Adonalsium, or is this one of those things that we've integrated so thoroughly into our speculation that it's pretty much fact to us? If it is confirmed, where? (I'm not talking about the 3 of 16 ruled passage, or anything similar. I mean where Brandon said, "There are 16 Shards" or something that led us to be able to confirm it) I'm currently trimming speculation out of some of the articles, and this was one of the things that I wasn't sure on whether it was actually speculation or not.
  21. , fourteen small children
  22. But what Ryan is saying is that he's not sure whether Lashing an object to another object entails creating an attraction to the second object, or changing to force of gravity to act in that direction. If it's the first, when the first object passes the second, it would be pulled back. If the second, it would keep going, as the force would still be acting in the same direction, even though the object it was originally lashed to is now behind it. At least I think that's what he's saying.... And I'd say it's more likely that it's a point attraction, not changing the direction of gravity. But that's totally personal opinion.
  23. crazy machete wielding.
  24. We don't know if the amount necessary increases over distance, but if I had to guess, no. It's just that it's hard to lash to things that you can't see. This is all just me speculating, though. Now the voidbringers....that's an interesting idea. You'd still have to have a whole lot of Voidbringers to do it (like between several hundred to a couple thousand) but you could very possibly do it if they were in sync enough with each other (which if the Parshendi and their singing is any indication, isn't a problem) and if they were spread out enough with enough stormlight between them to do it. Hmmm.. I don't know why this would be relevant to the plot in any way except that it screws up the weather, but it's a pretty awesome theory.
