Didn't somebody lost / steal it? -
I am not sure the Forms apply. If anything, they are the Spiritual Realm, pretty much identical to Popper's World 3 - a realm of constant and eternal perfection. Our world is obviously our world, but I don't remember anything in Plato that resembles the Cognitive Realm.

I wouldn't be surprised either way, actually. It's not like this is the first overlap we've seen between our world and the cosmere either. I am most amazed that nobody has brought it up before...

New Szeth Shirt [Words of Radiance Spoilers]
Argent replied to Newan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Interestingly, the shirt is a little hard to find right now. I can only see it in the New Products sidebar on the Contact Us and Policies pages.- 27 replies

Finished The Slow Regard of Silent Things a few days ago, so now that I've had some time to think about it, I can say that: I didn't quite love it, but I sure as hell appreciated it. It's a very Auri kind of book - Pat's got the tone very right, the prose reads very much the way Auri speaks. This is, perhaps, easier to accomplish with Auri than with a more traditional character, because her speech patterns are more irregular, more unique, than a "normal" person's, but it's still a difficult task. The frequent repetition of "Auri washed her face and hands and feet" was a really odd, but successful way to give Auri character. I expected that either this ritual of hers would be interrupted, and that would lead to a greater conflict, or she would find conflict, and that would lead to an interruption of this ritual. It's good to be right every now and then Auri throwing highly technical jargon here and there was probably my favorite thing about the novella. There is something magically jarring in the tiny elfin girl, full of childish wonder and simple (but not simplistic) thoughts, mentioning scientific terms in passing. I don't think we saw Kvothe's name a single time in the entire novella. This is probably important for how Auri thinks and feels about names. All in all, I can only agree with Pat's foreword and endnote - it's not a book for everyone. It breaks more rules than it follows. It's not even a book for me, I am not the target audience here, but I think I like it well enough to not care that other people will find it far more enjoyable than I did.

Ahem. I hate to be that guy, but what's going on? -
Nothing scheduled, but as you can see, only the big conventions are listed so far ahead of time. When Brandon releases new books, he (and, presumably, the rest of Team Sanderson) plans his tours on a per-book basis. That is to say, outside of those big cons, nobody knows where Brandon will go in the future.

You win. Bravo. @Joe, as long as you know. I am not about to start updating the entire Wiki when I haven't touched it in the past, so I am personally in no rush.

What's up with this, guys?

My main problem with this idea is actually one of quantities. We've seen how much Stormlight even a basic Soulcasting requires, and it feels unlikely to me that Rosharans will have that much innate Investiture.

It's not important. It's trivia.

I find it unlikely that the sheaths would fold and bend to accommodate the various sizes and shapes of Shardblades by natural means, and still remain impervious to their cut. No, I think their properties are magical. Plus, didn't someone say that the sheaths were artifacts of old, made of an unknown metal? Aluminum is known to the people of Roshar.

Most likely. How many female engineers by the name Ranette would there be in the same time period, especially in a fantasy novel, where people sharing a name is a rare occurrence?

Alethi Codes of War (The actual illustration)

The awkward poses at least, I think match older art from Europe - it's how people thought other people look when you capture them mid-motion. -
Brent Weeks, The Lightbringer Series
Argent replied to Catalyst21's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I myself am a little shady on the topic, but here's what I remember: Orholam remains a mysterious god, we don't know anything here Lucidonius, the first Prism, was by some accounts the (first) Lightbringer. Before he became the Prism to unify the satrapies, he was a member of the Order of the Broken Eye - an order of assassins who believed that killing a few key people is preferred over waging wars and things like that. The name was, if I recall correctly, a mistranslation of his actual name or some such As for the Lightbringer as a figure of lore and legend, it has turned into that over the ages. Now it's less of Lucidonius' name and more of the name of a mythical hero, similar to the Hero of Ages from Mistborn or the Dragon from The Wheel of Time. -
Well, that was a little disheartening.

Something in the October 20 blog caught my eye last night, and I wanted to share my thoughts about it. I am talking about the bit where it says "A Cosmere novella" under the title - I think this is the first time we see a reference to the Cosmere on the cover of one of Brandon's books - I believe all of the previous books have been either assigned to their series (e.g. "A Mistborn novel") or had that information left out. Now, however, we get this... and I don't know how I feel about this. I could be excited, because we are finally seeing an open acknowledgement that Brandon's worlds are part of the same universe. But then, I am also a little apprehensive, because such an acknowledgement might be coming a little too early - Brandon has been vocal and free about admitting that his books share a universe, but he has always added that it doesn't matter, not yet. Throwing those three innocent words on the cover of even a small ebook feels like it's undermining that disclaimer - Sixth of the Dusk is now not a standalone, it's a Cosmere novella, even if it's one that stands alone; and that might turn a few people away from it. Likely, my concern is unfounded and I am being melodramatic here, but the thought has been bouncing (well, more like dragging itself) inside my head for a full day now, and I wanted to put it out there.

Same, but I did go over the basics of the Elian script (up to the fluidity of the letters, I still need to see how the composition works exactly), but it does bear a striking resemblance to the Alethi script, visually at least. Conceptually too, to an extent. I doubt I'll get a chance to look into this myself, not in the next couple of weeks at least, but I would love to see this venue explored. Side note, I now want to learn Elian to the point where I can write whatever I want. Maybe not quickly, but without the need of references.
