Remembrance's confusion abates, for the most part, leaving just a sliver behind. It quickly emanates curiosity.

Slightly more serious note, how do we go about the actual traveling part?  Do we just think and we're there?  Or is there a gateway of some kind?

I'll come through a perpendicularity, as that makes the most sense for my character. Wait- did Harmony relocate Ruin's perpendicularity? Kelsier destroyed Hathsin, so... I suppose I'll have to use the Well of Ascension then.

    (Apologies for double posting.)

Here's the new and improved character sheet:

    Spoiler

(This is basically me, but shorter in height and with a name change.)

Name: Emrys Morgan (goes by alias “Furthest”)
    Gender: Male
Age: Unknown - appears to be in mid-twenties.
Appearance: Short (5’1”), lean, short wavy brown hair, hazel eyes that shift color (depending on ambient lighting), pinkish-pale skin.

Skills: Fast reader, decent survival skills, martial arts training, video games, extensive knowledge of the Cosmere (including additional applied experience from being in the Cosmere for so long), can sew, knows first aid, learns languages quickly, can cook, good at strategy.

Strengths: Extremely observant and aware of surroundings, good at emulating others perspectives, good at working with emotions (his own and others), adapts well to situations.

Weaknesses: Bad at focusing on menial tasks, memory problems, insomnia. (The preceding only manifest without medication. The following weaknesses are always present, but usually worsen without medication.) Sensory processing problems, doesn’t like crowds, generalized anxiety disorder, social OCD, clinical depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is constantly fatigued.

Personality: Stoic, doesn’t like to complain, neutral to happy most of the time (despite having depression), solves problems as they appear, dislikes lying, very empathetic and understanding but is bad at fitting in with groups of friends. Ironically is good at working with groups of people. (Just not friends, rip me.)

Backstory: Born in Ohio, but moved around the USA quite a bit. Is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Randomly appeared on Sel, and spent the following years training as a Soulforger in the Rose Empire. Member of a group of Forgers that experiment with Feruchemy and Allomancy, has since been relocated to Scadrial.

    Investiture: Forgery; SF-Feruchemical/Allomantic Nicrosil, SF-Feruchemical Aluminum, N-Feruchemical Duralumin, N-Feruchemical Copper, N-Feruchemical Bendalloy.

SF = Abilities granted via Soulforging.
N = Abilities granted via Nicrosilminds.

Da'ar gave a slight reverence "Happy to have been able to help you"

Remembrance dips its head in a close approximation of a nod, followed by a wordless thought of thanks.

15 hours ago, Channelknight Fadran said:

    "Earth or... something."

Its "skin" fades back to bluish-white as it turns from Da'ar, its head swiveling towards Fadran. It slithers towards the Channelknight, its form rippling, and shrinks down to about the size of a Terran kingsnake. It attempts to twine around Fadran's leg and slither upwards. With an all-curious bump of its mind, Remembrance would come to rest coiled about Fadran's arms and chest, a quiet hiss issuing forth from its body (accompanied by another yellow-orange stripe accross its head).

Da'ar could almost feel Remembrance inside his mind, calming the defences his mind had reflexively put up, seeking knowledge inside his memories. He smiled

"So, have you found what you needed?"

The pulsating blue slowly stops, fading back to its normal bluish-white. Remembrance fixes an "eye" on Da'ar. A splash of green appears near its "jaw", and a small, quiet click issues forth from the large snake-like beast. More clicking, accompanied by additional splashes of green that make their way down Remembrance's body. It projects a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction, followed by a stripe of yellow-orange around its "eye" and a hiss.

This is strange, yet... pleasing. I now understand why humans like shaping sound.

First, I'll have you know that though tagging while editing a post does work, tagging in a quote box don't. So I saw what you wrote only because I happened to review the thread.

Second, I think it's fine, though the nicrosil compounding might be a little worrying. It's not that usefull, though: when not stamped by your double nicrosil Essence Mark you won't be able to access to your nicrosil feruchemical storage, since you're not a soulbearer anymore. Currently, it's still unknown how you create an unsealed metalminds.

I'll tag Kingsdaughter outside, to see her opinion.

    Quote

Ah! Thank you for that information.

In regards to your second note, the nicrosil compounding is for the Essence Marks, actually. As I'm sure you already know, without knowledge of the natural geographic patterns of Scadrial, any Selish Investing Arts (except maybe Dahkor) would be completely inoperable since the Dor is not present on Scadrial. As a temporary solution, my character has stored a piece of Connection-blanked Dor Investiture in aforementioned nicrosilminds, that way he can compound it and still use his abilities. It is known that one can use a non-native Shard's Investiture to fuel an Investing Art, as we can see with (what I'm about to say is a spoiler for parts of the Stormlight Archive) Vivenna and Vasher's usage of Stormlight to fuel their Awakening, but the process by which they accomplished this is unknown.

(Though we can assume that it shouldn't be too hard for an Awakener considering that Stormlight and BioChromatic Breath are both gaseous forms of Investiture.)

Thus leaving me with this solution.

    This sounds good.

Also, I don't think your character should have access to the Earth investiture if you have these other abilities.

    Thank you.

Terran Investiture? My curiosity is piqued! I'd like to know more, but I do agree, and I am completely fine with this.

    "Go ahead then"

At that Remembrance's glow becomes fainter, and takes on a soft, pulsating blue color. A moment passes, nothing but the wisps of shadow, light, and various ripplings of the pocket dimension. Then, a presence manifests at the boundaries of Da'ar's mind. As the mind approaches, it begins to expand into a deep ocean of sensations, emotions, thoughts, concepts, and... song? Yes, a strange music, lilting and light, deep and rich, impossibly meaningful, yet in the simplest of terms. Melodies fair and bright, tones of color and light, unearthly musics that invoke strange mental shapes. Waves of knowledge swell around Da'ar, the ocean of information encompassing his very being. A fierce storm of activity, the unrelenting pull of a hurricane's winds. Yet despite the vastness of this creature, Da'ar's mind remains untouched. As soon as this fact becomes apparent, the storm ceases. The tide of being ebbs, and the storm of Remembrance's mind settles as quickly as it had erupted, becoming waters of stillness and calm. The immensity of quiet that mantles the two minds remains for but a moment, and then the ocean shifts, shrinking down into an infinitesimal point of pure thought. This point rushes towards Da'ar, a shaft of energy that pierces his outer thoughts and emotions with nothing more than a whisper, careful to avoid all but that which it seeks.

It flies from memory to memory, ignoring most, pausing at some, taking note of nothing and everything at once. Knowledge of sound becomes Remembrance, and Remembrance becomes knowledge of sound. Waveforms of light that are not light, vibrations that do not banish darkness, but give it shape and meaning. This it learns, and then... it leaves. It leaves, taking nothing else save this newfound information. Remnants of its strange musics linger within Da'ar, and in steadfast finality, a single, pure note echoes in his mind. Then all fades to a solem silence.

"So you won't remember any other knowledge hidden in my mind?"

Another flick of amusement. If you desire this to be not, then not it will be.

    Quote

To translate, no. Remembrance sees this as an opportunity to increase its knowledge of human speech. It can have surgical precision when it comes to memories, if it so desires, so it will only review memories pertaining to speech. Even if it did see a sensitive or private memory, it won't care about the meaning of what's being talked about. It's only concerned with how words are being used, so Da'ar has nothing to worry about in regards to context/content of memories.

  9. 11 minutes ago, mathiau said:

"Er... Depends. Will you only look at the memories about this sound or will you see everything?"

A sense of amusement emanates from Remembrance, followed by a twist of curiosity. I see that which is, but I seek only this knowledge. A pause follows, what seems to be Remembrance contemplating. Humans shape sound. This is so, yet I do not understand why.

So start your regular threads; your theories, RPGs, and whatever else, but use High Imperial the whole time, and maybe have a note in english explaining that that particular thread is for practicing.

I'm not sure I understand what Remembrance is, is it some kind of incarnation of spacetime, an ageless being observing the multiverse or something else?

    Quote

An ageless being observing the multiverse. :D

Remembrance is an energy being that travels from universe to universe with the intent of experiencing as much as it can. It does not know who or what created it, neither does it really care. (Right now, at least.) It remembers its beginning, which I think I may have symbolically described a few dozen pages ago, and where it began existing. (It has referenced an "Origin-place" before.) Despite its time in the multiverse, it thinks mostly in sensations, images, and emotions, and only recently learned to communicate with words. If you haven't noticed already, the creature tends to fly from emotion to emotion. It is extremely curious, and is easily distracted by new things.

"Well, nice to meet you Remembrance, I'm Da'ar"

Da'ar... Remembrance repeats his name, the word echoing in its mind with a bell-like note. Yours is different from the rest. The sound you make from your- an image of Da'ar's throat flits from Remembrance's mind- is new. A... a click, almost? Curiosity fills the creature's mind, distracting it from its previous curiousity in Fadran's out-place.

    Da'ar took a step back

    "Er... Hello?"

Greetings. I am- Da'ar would be presented with a river of thoughts, meanings, feelings, sensations, and events. The birth of a planet, the death of a star, the vacuum of space, the abundance of life. Many of these thoughts detail complex mathematics, that of a hyperindexing temporospatial claudication, one in particular describing the exact planar and dimensional interactions of a hypercube. Some thoughts contain nothing but colors and shapes, and others what appears to be emptiness. These thoughts all bind together in a singular shaft of will, a description of this strange creature's existence. -but you may call me Remembrance. I am so that the past might be.

Ahh, I see. I was wondering about that, so thank you for explaining! As I said, I have absolutely no problem toning down the power of my character. OP characters tend to be hard to play correctly. In my experience, at least.

    @Trutharchivist @Kingsdaughter613

How about this: I'll get rid of the F/A Cadmium and A Bendalloy, leaving SF-F/A Nicrosil, SF-F Duralumin, SF-F Aluminum, F Copper, and F Bendalloy. Does that sound good? I'd rather gain the other abilities in roleplay, in all honesty.

Does skyward count as an (almost) cosmere novel?

Actually... as an extremely active Arcanum scholar, I can tell you that it has been confirmed that the Cytoverse does in fact include part of the Cosmere, but millenia upon millenia after Sixth of the Dusk takes place.

Oh yes! You got it exactly right. SF means Soulforging, or Essence Marks. I cleared it with Random Bystander before I posted the character, but I'd be happy to tone it down a little. I can also explain the exact mechanics of how (and why if you're interested) my character used Soulforging to grant themselves Feruchemical and Allomantic abilities.

I mean, I play a Fullborn Awakener so if we’re talking OP… I think it’s more about play style than actual power. How do you balance the powers?

    Quote

That's exactly why I thought it was okay, because I saw your character, and because I agree that it depends on play style. :D

In all honesty I myself would try to gain as much power as I could solely for the purpose of seeing what each power could do, simple curiosity. It's similar with my character. When it comes to balancing, however, I intend to use his various mental conditions as balancing factors. Also, perhaps I should edit this in, but the only actual Feruchemical/Allomantic abilities he has are F/A-Nicrosil, F-Aluminum, and F-Duralumin. The rest are contained within his nicrosilminds, and once he takes those off, he loses the other abilities.

Remembrance disengages from its perch, briefly flickering out of Fadran's pocket dimension. It returns to its normal size, and reinserts itself into the extradimensional space. Before Da'ar appears a big snake-like creature entirely composed of a bluish energy. A halo of white light surrounds its head, splitting and writhing here and there, forming a mane of "feathers". It raises its head, its eyes points of silver fire. Da'ar would feel a sense of amusement from it, followed by a wordless thought identifying itself as the origin of the telepathic communication.
