  1. I think most people are ignoring this scene (to their own folly) as they're making predictions for the fifth book when this is one of the few scene's whose only purpose is to foreshadow the fifth book.
  2. Thats a good point. While this idea doesn't have a lot of traction on these forums, the first five books basically having a mistborn/gurren lagan style twist is a pathway for the story and is definitely something Brandon has possibly hinted at.
  3. In order for Odium to do something like choose Gavinor he would have to ensure Dalinar would be the champion (Szeth for instance would have zero issues slaying Gavinor before any possible renegotioation can take place). Renarin's vision may have foreshadowed using him as Odium's champion against Dalinar. He has ties to Odium, he has forseen things and he might be able to take on an unexpected opponent like Szeth. And both opponents must be present at Urithuru, its likely there may no way to get Gavinor there without it being obvious who his champion may be but Renarin will very likely be present when it appears no champion is present.
  4. Autonomy, the Eric Cartman of shards. Edit: Phrased like that its not hard to see why other shards may hate it.
  5. A Fused Dalinar would be absolutely a masterpiece fallen hero character.
  6. Def an interesting theory. I think the themes and esp some of the non-nightblood warbreaker tie-ins hint at, if not this, then something like this. I dont know if nightblood is the child but there are several other spren and sprenoid characters it could be describing such. It could be noted that the epigraph could tenuously describe Jasnah's discovery of Glys as an infant warspren and contemplating whether most of the world would Kill Renarin out of precaution though obviously she can't do that.
  7. It seems like it would be hard to produce anti preservation/ruin since its not clear how one would trap either investiture. The very predictable behavior of shardic light on Roshar might make it easier to create anti-light than in other systems (how would you create anti-breaths? What is Ruin's analog to stormlight and mists?)
  8. I think there's two schools of thought shardic oath. One is that Harmony has power over the two shards the other is that the two shards have power over harmony. If the former is what is dominant than we find that harmony can convince the shards it is in their interest to renegotiate the deal as a broker, exchanging ruin here for ruin there to maybe maximize preservation in some way. Alternately if shardic intents have the final say then its possible Harmony cannot renegotiate those deals without getting damaged by a shard. I just dont understand what the shard ruin would get in exchange for an entire world to destroy.
  9. There's a theory that Syl may have been... adjusted by Cultivation. Its unclear what that would mean mechanically but its possible she may be different in some way from regular honorspren.
  10. I would suggest reading some of the other threads here That would be the appropriate place to Cultivate that idea.
  11. I mean Raboniel proves the point that partial destruction kills but its not clear where the line actually is and I think other threads in particular have noted that Syl may actually be an exception the "honorspren are mostly of honor" rule
  12. "I will protect this world from devastation"
  13. pretty sure odium is alive as long as cats exist
  14. Does anti-stormlight actually kill spren with more of cultivation's investiture? Wouldn't it need "anti-towerlight" or something to be fully lethal? We dont actually know if Phen is dead or just kind of in a broken state, presumably she could be similar to a deadeye if what causes deadeyes is a release of honor's investiture
  15. Ok but what about wearing DOUBLE shardplate? Anyone think of this?
  16. Isn't BAM historically Odium's general and shows up in multiple desolations?
  17. F-Duralumin and A-Duralumin then I would compound it and steal invested connections, open perpindicularities, etc.
  18. A "Ferring Wheel"
  19. With the ability to store weight a feruchemist could, in theory, be used to create at least one, likely several dozen, form of perpetual motion machines. The one I like to imagine is a seesaw with two feruchemists alternating their weights at intervals keeping the seesaw in constant motion.
  20. I'm not clear on that either. Many of the unmade would be difficult to explain in a satisfying way. Its also possible that odium manifests some surges very differently than honor/cultivation
  21. The running theory then is the unmade exhibit a single voidbinding power and can share that power with spren? edit: There are also common powers related to being a radiant, Renarin still hasnt shown a shardblade or plate right ( and its not clear they'd function the same)? Maybe voidbinders get some alternate perks instead.
  22. The implication of much of this.thread is that Ulim may be a cognitive shadow or something similar to an intelligent spren but not from Roshar. Nightblood, while less intelligent, is similar to the latter.
  23. I always thought this is because Nightblood's intent is to destroy evil, which is a ruinous intent. If we made a shield thats goal was to preserve the good, would it gain Preservation's investiture? (this may be because in warbreaker intent seemed very important to the magic system on Nalthis) Follow-up: Can a Nahel bond be formed with Nightblood?
  24. I sort of wonder if the reason Testament was brought into frame (at least from the narrative perspective) would be for Sja Anat to enlighten her onscreen and to give Shallan access to odiums powers. In theory this would give Shallan access both voidbinding (odium illumination?) and surgebinding and possibly a compound effect.
  25. I think its already very foreshadowed that Odium has put some very specific plans into position with regards to the cosmere and Dalinar is just very obviously what he needs pursue it. Narratively, that Dalinar could win/forfeit the contest of champions but be pressured to join odium (the deal came with a handy explainer on what would happen if an oath was broken which makes the broken oath a checkov's gun if it isnt why Odium died in the first place) and there is also the possibility if a shard invades Dalinar will need to renegotiate the deal. Honor himself suggested a wager on a contest of champions, and it probably would have worked on Rayse. I'd do it based solely on ending the war. That alone is worth any personal loss.
