Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
The Unknown Medallion replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The man who taught me to smith called me Re'lar because I had a penchant for not listening. My first real friend called me Keendriller for the rhyme with "Kingkiller," and for my skill with a drill. I have been called Rustless, Quickhammer, and Two-Tap. I have earned those names. Crafted and paid for them myself. But I was brought up as Cavothee. My father once told me his grandfather had carried a letter to a man named that, and that he just liked the sound of it. His pen ran out of ink. "Oh, krist, krayle, en kote." Cavothee looked around his desk. "Where did I put that blackened pen?" Hesaw it right as scooted his chair out to get up to look for it somewhere. He picked up the pen and started writing again. I have, of course, been called many other things. Most of them uncouth, although very few were unearned. I have stolen apples from sleeping merchant-men. I have burned down the horse stables of the King himself. I have spent the night with Toothless Jenna and left with both my sanity and my life. I was accepted into the University at an older age than most men graduate. I tread paths by moonlight that most are too sensible to travel at all. I have talked to priests, flirted with women, and sung songs that make the dogs howl. You may have heard of me.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
The Unknown Medallion replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
My name is Cavothee, pronounced nearly the same as "Kvothe." Names are important as they tell you a great deal about a person. I've had more names than anyone has a right to. My mother called me Sparkless. Which, depending on her tone, could mean several things. The first implication is obvious if you've ever met my mother. She is a cruel woman, and I was always a slow spoken child. If I had been born in a harsher land, I might have been cast out as mentally unfit. Now, that softness has remained, but is concealed by my large unruly beard, like rust spreading on iron. I look more a mad scientist than a simpleton. The next implementation was surely unintended, but I have had a talent for precision since my early years. This allows me to forge metal and shape sygaldry while creating nearly no sparks. The last, well, when the name of fire came to my lips, Flame came without spark or sound, and so what was once a cruel nickname became a badge pride. Cavothee paused. That last part wasn't strictly true. Should he erase it? No, he decided, leave it in. By the time his autobiography was released to the world, it would be true. If only he could get the Master Namer to actually teach him. He sighed, then picked up his pen to keep writing. ~ I think I'm going to enjoy writing this character very much. The Kvothe obsessed blacksmith who's determined to learn Naming (and/)or go insane trying.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
The Unknown Medallion replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
All you guys doing 1,000,000 word roleplays over hear, meanwhile I'm bashing my head against the wall just trying to get 200 words a day. Also: Archer for phishing, though I may take you up on your offer. @little wilson, @Elbereth, I cannot vote the same person with both votes, correct? Not that I will most likely. I rarely vote once, voting twice just seems like overkill. Edit: Should note, it is impossible to vote Kas this game as we cannot vote insane people.- 692 replies

Also: @Treamayne Red Rising, despite similar themes causing some confusion, is very firmly in the pure Sci-fi category. It seems to get recommended a lot around fantasy circles because if it's themeing and Epic Fantasy esque nature, but it is still very Sci-fi. Edit: I've looked into it even more now, and a note that it is a great entry point for Fantasy readers/is very Fantasy-esque would probably fit somewhere in the entry.

What Are You Reading, Part 2
The Unknown Medallion replied to Chaos's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Finished A Crown of Swords. Decent book, but the ending was quite underwhelming. Started Prince of Thorns by... someone. Forgot and don't have the book on me, book one the Broken Empire trilogy. I'm about three chapters in and I love it. Some quotes that I found delightful: Also reading Golden Son by Pierce Brown. Had a bit of a dull start, partly because I switched from Graphic Audio to the standard audiobook, going from the perfect possible narrator to a decent one. Very good so far, 'there's always another secret' is a decent, if not quite accurate description. Edit: Nevermind. Golden Son is absolutely storming amazing. Go read Red Rising, just go do it. -
How to Read Kindle Version?
The Unknown Medallion replied to Veil Davar's topic in Yumi and the Nightmare Painter
If you go to your Kindle/Kindle app, then go to settings, you should be able to see an Email address. You can send it via attachment to that address. If that doesn't work, you will need to go to your Kindle account, and add your Email to the accepted Emails list, then it should work. There seem to be a lot of other ways to do this, some of which worked for me, but this was the most consistent one. -

Pity. Congratulations to the elims, hope I'm more energized for the KKC. Hopefully not waking up at 5:00 AM will help with that. Thanks to @Szeth_Pancakes for an excellent second game and to @StrikerEZ for IMing. -

Thank you. Tuition reduction/inflation is calculated per month, does that mean that if I do 1 Quality Roleplay per Turn, every turn, I will have a 15 Jot reduction to my Tuition next Turn?- 692 replies

Mid-Range Game 64: Shades of Crimson
The Unknown Medallion replied to Szeth Pancakes's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Is there a reason to trust TJ? I think we can call Aman good under the timescale we're working with. He could definitely be a gambit baddie, but aintnobuddygottimefordat. Mat has been a bit oddly confident in his village read of me, I feel like he's generally more wiffly-waffly. I've got nothing on Ash. Want to lend him a little bit more credence than TJ, but not sure why.- 275 replies

I mean technically I'm not guaranteed village, am I? An extra kill is a little over powered but I could see it happening if the village was pretty stacked.- 275 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
The Unknown Medallion replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Nale's nuts, that's a lot of rules. Going to try to read them all at least twice from title to footnotes, then spot read from there. Wish me luck. This is me signing up as Cavothee the (B)Loveless (not related) btw. He has dark brown hair that he keeps trimmed, while his ruddy brown beard grows long and bushy. He claims that he's going to be the next Kvothe the Bloodless Edit: I'm cackling right now. This is amazing. Edit 2: And I'm done! 30 pages down, just one more read through to go, but with taking notes this time! @Elbereth and/or @little wilson, my pre-game essay (totally not confirming that's what I'm doing) must be about one of the nine subjects, correct? Is The Loaded Dice designed to have a particular net gain/loss, or is it just what felt right? Totally not trying to figure out if you're corrupting the minds of the youth with pro-gambling messages. What is the low point for thread participation? Like, if I write a while reads list, then add some word association for every player to increase the length a little bit, how annoyed with me will you be? If I just do this to get over the 200 word mark, will it be less aggravating then just padding as high as possible? Can Public Apologies be Quality Roleplays? My poor roleplayless soul wants to get the most value out of the least effort.- 692 replies

The Unknown Medallion replied to Szeth Pancakes's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yes, but I'm not working on a good amount sleep right now, so that might not be too dramatic this game. I will note that reminding potential!e!me of that is not a very good idea, as I kinda forget about that as an elim. I can't speak for Devo, but my kill profile tends to be more control kills. I don't really think low profile/low info kills are that great of a tactic.- 275 replies

It seems to me to be fuzzy only if you make it fuzzy. If you take it at the literal "the real world exists" it works fine. It make some semi-counter-intuitive definitions, but it's simple. If you classify it as "the real world doesn't exist or is irrelevant" then it's slightly more subjective, but is still fairly simple and pretty intuitive. But I digress. That's fine for me. Adventure is defined by plot, Epic is defined by stakes. Generally, Adventure takes priority (like LotR is Epic stakes, but the Adventure plot takes precedent, whereas the Hobbit is just plain Adventure), but only if a quest/whatever is the main focus, if it's just a side plot, then Epic takes precedent. I don't think it's too hard, and people will sort it pretty accurately on their own.

Who thinks that, and please tell them that they are wrong. Also,Powder Mage, especially considering the series as a whole, is Epic, not Adventure.
