She nodded, zoning out a bit.

"Do you know any languages but English?"

She stayed silent for a moment. "You know, the English language is absolutely hilarious. Read and lead rhyme. So do read and lead. But read and lead don't rhyme, and neither does read and lead. But read and read are spelled the same, and so are lead and lead."

She nodded. "Me neither." She said.

"Do you have any living family members?" She asked suddenly.

She smiled at him.

"Oh. Well that's still awesome."

"Can it turn into other things?" She asked, curious.

Her eyes went big. "That's so awesome." She said.

"What kind of weapon do you have?" She asked

She set it on his lap, and smiled at him. "That's my favorite thing that I own. What's yours?"

Elsie really wanted to give him a hug, but resisted the urge. Instead, she did the next best thing, and passed him her stuffed sheep.

"So, that's all you care about?" She asked, head tilting.

She paused. "What do you think is important?" She asked, genuinely curious.

"Do you have a favorite animal? Or a favorite food? Or a favorite season?"

She paused. "It just is, I guess."

"That's so sad."

She gaped at him.

She gasped. "You... don't have a favorite color?"

"Okay." She said. She paused. "What's your favorite color?"

She narrowed her eyes at him. "Please just give me a straight answer. If you're not okay, I wanna help."

"You ok?" She asked, glancing at him. She was still trying to get her mind off her dad.

Elsie decided to escape having to answer further questions about her dad by going back to her seat and sitting down. @The Aspiring Archivist

Elsie swayed back and forth. She felt a bit sad as she remembered her dad, but tried to ignore that.

"My dad married her when I was 6. They'd never even met until I was 5."
