I maintain a small garden behind this house, from which I should be able to derive enough for a suitable, if bland, repast. I hope that it shall be to your liking. If not, I will see what I can find in the forest tomorrow, but as it grows dark I regret that we shall have to make do for tonight's meal."

Once everyone had calmed down somewhat, Kieran pulled himself up from the wall and began sorting his supplies. Remembering Jahora's earlier comments about charcoal, he went to go check the area around the vats.

"He did claim to be working for Queen Scarlet, but given the context of his actions that's almost certainly a lie. Aligning ourselves with him may prove unhelpful, but I cannot see him being particularly harmful either. It would also be quite useful to have more dragons working together. I leave the final judgement up to you."

Brother Sparrow waits until Vespyr is a good distance away before speaking. "The isle we are on is called Tairna, child. What else else you wish to tell your friends?"

Kieran burst into the room, unsteady on his feet from the force of Rose's fury. "You need to stop! it isn't his fault. I know how scary it is. Everything is confusing. But you're okay. You're going to be okay. You're safe. You're in control. You're not alone. And no one is going to hurt you! Please. " Tears streamed down Kieran's face, though he didn't think they were his. He tried to anchor himself, but it was so hard to find his thoughts among everyone else's. He slumped against the wall, trying to push back against the noise.

"There's no shame in that, child. What did you desire transcribed? I can write it for you, if you wish."

Brother Sparrow noticed Janice's struggle, and ventured over to help. "What is the matter, child? Are you lacking ink? I was sure I had a spare inkwell here somewhere, but I must have misplaced it. You can use mine for the moment. I shall make do." He handed her the inkwell from his desk.

"Fear not, child. I shall make arrangements for your transportation. It is simply that I will be unable to go with you myself."

Kieran bumped into Jahora in the hall, and quickly looked away. Jahora probably wouldn't appreciate him knowing any of that. "Why do the two of you insist on antagonizing each other? Wasn't the two of you working together on this excursion rather the point? And you wouldn't happen to have any charcoal lying around, would you?" "

"I cannot say for sure. Months, most likely. Perhaps longer."

"Might I have the pleasure of knowing exactly how stupid you think I am?"

"It is not that simple, child. Their body is as dependent on Nectar as yours is on breathing. To go without it entirely would kill them. My hope is that I can slowly and continuously lower the dosage, in order to lower their tolerance and mitigate the effects of withdrawal. This will be a long and difficult process even if it is sucessful, and I cannot honestly say that I am confident that I will succeed."

"Ah, I apologize. What I mean to say is that your friend has drunk far too much Nectar, their form has been altered from its natural state, and whatever affects them currently is within their own mind."

"Well, to begin with, Vespyr has a severe chemical dependency on a number of horribly addictive substances. In addition, their physiology appears to be warped in ways that I cannot claim to understand at the moment. To be perfectly honest, I am completely unaware of what is happening to Vespyr at the moment, but it appears to be purely psychosomatic in nature. My knowledge of such areas is rather limited, but I shall render such assistance as I am able."
