"See? This is what happens when your security is lax! I'm Jasper, by the way. Pleased to make your acquaintance." He bows and takes off at a sprint towards the noise.

"To put it simply, your guards are improperly spaced. Certain areas are covered by several points of view, but this leaves blind spots which are easy to exploit. I was able to get in easily, and imagine if it had been someone with bad intentions!"

"Ah, hello there, sir. Are you in charge of maintaining this palace's defenses? If so, I feel it necessary to call attention to certain deficiencies. If I might have a moment of your time?"

"The pain I felt wasn't mine. I was fine as soon as the rest of you calmed down. And yes, I did manage to find a suitable amount. Have you managed to reconcile with Rose?"

Brother Sparrow emerged from the house's small kitchen bearing several steaming mugs. He noted the tense atmosphere in the room, and sought to think of a way to defuse it. "What is it that you are drawing there, Janice? Would you like some tea? And you, Vespyr?"

Jasper wandered gloomily through the palace, silently lamenting the hours he'd wasted surveying the palace for points of entry. Well, if they'd wanted him to go in through the front door, they shouldn't have left a weakness in the defenses! Reassured by this flawless line of logic, he tried to find the ballroom, but accidentally bumped into two people clearly engaged in something that was none of his business. Given that one of them was wearing a crown, he figured they might like to know about the security issue. "Ah, Your Majesty, might I have a moment of your time? I worry that there is a deficiency in the palace defenses." Jasper knelt as he spoke, with a perfunctory nod towards the other man.

Jasper moved slowly through the underbrush, surveying the palace. He noted the positions of the guard and estimated their lines of sight, inching around the perimeter until he found an area out of direct view, where he would have a clear path to the wall. He waited to make sure there was no position change imminent, and crept across the open ground between the forest and the wall before scaling the wall as quickly as he dared. As he planned his next move, he heard the distinct rustle of paper, and realization dawned on him. He'd only been planning to infiltrate the palace in the first place because he'd lost his invitation. Now that he'd apparently found it again, all Jasper had actually managed to do was sneak into somewhere he was supposed to be. Not bothering to remove the leaves or twigs from his hair, he slipped down the stairs into the palace proper.

Brother Sparrow did his best to keep Vespyr alive and well throughout their rehabilitation, though he found their insistence on performing manual labor utterly mystifying. He kept Vespyr warm when their body failed to heat itself, and took on their pain as his own when it became unbearable. Vespyr retreated into semiconscious delirium, and Brother Sparrow redoubled his efforts to isolate the drugs within the mixture Vespyr had been taking. After days of seizures and incomprehensible screaming, he was able to positively identify several of the reagents, many of which he was able to find countermeasures for. It was slow, agonizing work, but Sparrow had inexhaustible patience, and Vespyr was in no state to complain if they'd wanted to. Eventually, with the tiniest of steps, he was able to begin dragging Vespyr back to reality. He did his best to care for Janice as well, though he was unable to do much more than cook and try to keep the house clean. He hoped that that would be enough, at least for now.
