OH rust THIS IS HOW KELSIER IS GOING TO LEAVE Scadrial!!!
-
Ok, I stand corrected.
-
The process wasn't lost completely. I'm almost certain that some Fused, such as El, knew exactly how to create it, seeing as he had a dagger to kill the Pursuer (Defeated). I'm guessing that Rayse saw anti-investiture as much too risky to use against the Radiants, so he either destroyed or trapped any Fused that had the knowledge, such as El. I'm also guessing that El was punished and had his Rhythms taken from him precisely because he used anti-investiture against Rayse's will. Also, the Fused have to know how to create it for narrative reasons. Raboniel knew, but now she's dead. This would leave the humans as the only ones with the knowledge to create it. Now that Taravangian holds Odium, I think he's going to release Fused such as El, and probably others, to create anti-investiture and end the Desolations in order to be released from Roshar.
-
Uhh, anti-investiture existed before Navani learned how to create it... Gavinar literally had a sphere of it 6 years before Way of Kings.
-
She didn't know what it was, but had seen it before, as in the dagger Moash had used. She was using Navani to try and reproduce it after learning that it killed Jezrien for good, so she could end her daughter's suffering and hopefully end the cycle of Desolations. Her previous knowledge and Navani's fresh pair of eyes discovered what it really was.
-
Raboniel clearly didn't have a full understanding of what exactly the dagger, or anti-investiture, does. Perhaps they thought they could capture Heralds using it, but didn't realize it would destroy them completely instead. There's definitely room for different theories though.
-
Why would the Fused want to capture him if they could just destroy him? Also, isn't the anti-investiture dagger Raboniel makes to kill her daughter very similar to the one Moash used? If I remember correctly, they had to put an anti-investiture sphere into the blade, and it would be used up as they stabbed. I'm guessing that the reason the gem glowed after Jezrien died is because there was a small amount of anti-investiture left in the gem. Just my personal interpretation.

dawnshard Let's make groups of four, RoW edition
Ba-Ado-Fisherman replied to mathiau's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I honestly don't think we're even close to understanding what exactly Dawnshards are, or what the other 3 could possibly be. This is an interesting theory, but I'm going to have to hold off until we learn more about Dawnshards before buying into it. -
Lopen's spren is male.
-
How do we know that anti-investiture wasn't involved with Jezrien's death?
-
For a character like a spren or Fused, their entire interpretation of the world is probably based on Shards, as they are literally part of that being. If Honor is the source of the surge of gravitation, an Honorspren probably sees gravity as a product of Honor, for example. In fact, both could be true. It's possible for gravity to be inherent to the Cosmere, for humans. But for spren and other beings similar to spren, their version of gravity could be entirely different.
-
They obviously didn't invent gravity itself, but they very well could be the source of the ability for people to control gravity through surges.

I just wanted to make an appreciation post for Brandon basically confirming Thaidakar as Keslier in the most recent Shardcast episode. They asked Brandon about Thaidakar and when exactly Brandon decided to make Kelsier a part of the SA, and he answered that he's been planning this for over a decade. So, I take this as a literal confirmation that Thaidakar is indeed Kelsier! Yay!

I completely agree, however, I don't think Brandon uses red herrings in that way. He's always been a bit more subtle than that. I take these character quotes as confirmations, to an extent. Especially at this point in the series. This is the penultimate book in the first arc, so stuff like this almost has to not be a red herring for the story to feel satisfying.
-
Aren't there actual quotes in the book that point to Adhesion being Honor's 'truest' surge? Feel like Brandon wouldn't just straight up misdirect us like that. Yes there isn't enough evidence, but there's a lot more evidence for than against this theory.
-
If this is the case, then why does the suppression in Urithiru in RoW seem to have little to no effect on Adhesion or Progression?
-
Yes I also believe Dalinar is in possession of a Dawnshard. How exactly all of this came to be, I'm not sure.
-
I really don't know what the say anymore regarding this topic. They can literally create and destroy entire planets. This alone justifies worshiping them. A god doesn't need to be benevolent to inspire worship.
-
Right, but my point is that Honor is most definitely worthy of worship, as are many Shards, simply due to the enormous impact that they've had in the worlds they are invested in.
-
So you don't think Honor is worthy of any king of worship?

So in the RoW epilogue, Hoid finally has a confrontation with Odium. Funnily enough, the only reason Odium was able to speak with he is because Hoid chose to reveal himself. Are there any theories into why exactly Hoid is able to hide from Shards so well? Harmony even brings this up twice in letters to Hoid. Also, Endowment seems to have noticed immediatly when Hoid was on Nalthis... Why would she be able to sense his presence while other Shards can't?
-
Yes, the amount of Investiture is finite, technically, but everything is recycled eventually, meaning that Shards will always regain what they use over time. Also, I'm not sure why you're arguing semantics here. I've never seen anyone dispute the fact that Shards are gods. The term "god" is not exclusive to the Hebrew, all powerful and omnipotent depiction. Shards are immortal beings with the power to create and destroy entire planets. They are gods.
-
Brandon has said that Shards have access to infinite investiture, and Harmony even says himself that he isn't necessarily more powerful than other Shards just because he holds two, given that infinity + infinity is still infinity... You're entitled to your own interpretation of course, but I think it's pretty obvious that Brandon created Shards to be the literal gods of the Cosmere, and there is evidence in-book and WoBs to support that claim.
-
I disagree with that. Shards are immortal beings with near infinite power. They are gods, they just aren't omnipotent.

What piques my interest is that Adolin is one of the last remaining main characters that isn't a Radiant, and I know I'm not alone in wanting him to stay that way. Seeing all of our main characters become KR's gets a little repetitive after a while, and I think Brandon has a really nice opportunity to make Adolin something different. Now, he could just stay a normal person and never gain the ability to surgebind, which I would be fine with. But I think it would be really cool to see unlock the ability to surgebind through a different path with Maya. I definitely think you're right though. The Nahel Bond allows Radiants to access Investiture through the Spiritual Realm, so without that bond, I don't see how Adolin could surgebind. My most likely theory is that once Ba-Ado-Mishram is released, Adolin will be able to form a Nahel Bond with Maya and become an Edgedancer. Maybe even a special Edgedancer with a corrupted cultivationspren? It would be cool to have both Renarin and Adolin with corrupted spren.
