"There's a lot of things you can't have when you're busy with... work."
-
Fine with me, lol. "Yeah, I guess." She watched the baker place the cake between them and gave him a nod of appreciation.
-
She pursed her lips, continuing to tap her fingers together. "Kind of hard when the habits are instilled into you," she said quietly, leaning back. She shook her head. "Sorry."
-
Q shook her head. "No, just... when something is going this well, something always happens. It never hurts to be on guard."
-
Q set her elbows on the table, biting her lip slightly. Her fingers tapped on each other, as if it was almost with nervousness.
-
Q shook her head. "No complaints here, as of yet." The baker nodded, making his way around the counter. He showed them to their small dining pavilion, gesturing for them to sit.
-
The baker came out from the back, wiping his hands on a towel. "Sure thing," the man said in a gruff voice. "We can have that ready in a few minutes. And uh... There's the outside table, but I don't know if you want to eat out there due to the, uh... weather."
-
Q shook her head, chuckling softly as she started towards the store.
-
Q shrugged. "Whatever's fine with you." She glanced at the bakery, looking longingly at the warm light as if she's rarely seen such warm light. "I've honestly never had it, so you can do that."
-
"Mmhm!" the woman said with a smile, starting off in the opposite direction. One timeskip later cause I guess it's my turn, they arrived at the front of the bakery. Surprisedly, it was still open, though there were two customers in the bakery. To the left was the general store, which was––no surprise there––open. Q cocked her head. "Huh, the lady was right."
-
The woman yelped, then relaxed when she saw the two. She pointed off to the east. "You'll find it over there, next to the bakery," the woman said, then started to pat herself down. She smiled at the two. "You two are a cute couple, by the way." Q blushed slightly, looking away.
-
Q looked up at the city, cocking her head. "So it would seem. Any idea where the general store is?"
-
That's because she's short. Q lifted her short hair, waiting for Ellis to complete. After he was finished, Q let go of her hair and nodded in appreciation. "Thanks again," she said.
-
She nodded, handing the necklace to Ellis.
-
She pulled the necklace out, inspecting it. As her eyes scanned over it, something happened that hadn't happened in a while: she smiled for real, in front of someone she hadn't known for a while. Running her fingers over the quartz, she continued to smile. "Thanks," she whispered. "I mean it."
-
She hesitated, before taking it. Opening the lid, she saw...
-
Q raised an eyebrow, looking towards him. "Oh, really?"
-
Q reached up to wave the hand off, but stopped. Her brow furrowed, then she lowered her hand. "It's all right," she said, but it seemed like she was talking to herself. Her shoulders tensing slightly. "I'm all right."
-
Q watched the rain, closing her eyes. The sad smile was still played on her lips. She lowered her head, opening her eyes. "We've all lost someone, Ellis," she said, her voice light yet holding back the deepness. "Some of us remember it vividly, others forget, but we've all lost someone we loved. There will be a time where there will be nothing that you can do to stop it, and other times. . . you could've stopped it, yet. . . you didn't do it. . . and then. . ." She didn't finish her sentence as she looked back up, a single tear rolling down her cheek.
-
"That," she said, gazing out into the rainfall, a sad smile on her face, "and another reason."
-
"More than you realize," she said softly, hurt shining in her eyes. "That's why I first declined your date offer."
-
"Yeah," she said with a nod. "I got them at home and with all the other places I've been. You grow tired of them. All you want to do is to be left alone after the eleventh one. Sometimes, the prophecy isn't even about you but about someone else. You see that person grow into that role, whether that be the hero or the villain. It can be. . . painful, sometimes, to see people you've grown to love turn into your enemy."
-
Q nodded, understanding filling in her eyes. "I get that. Prophecies are hard to deal with; we don't know for sure what or who they're talking about, as you have mentioned. We honestly try our best to be different from the prophecy, but it does come true." Realizing what she just said, Q blushed slightly. "I mean, I'm not sure if it applies to you. I haven't heard the prophecy. After all, the Chosen One might be you." Connie be like rn tho:
-
She nodded. "I understand that feeling," she said softly. "You know what you're going to be, you try to stop it, but you end up being what you already know what you're going to be."
-
Sadness appeared in her gaze. She turned away. "My past," she admitted quietly. She shook herself, looking back at Ellis, cocking her head. "How 'bout you?"
