Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Huh. Actually, come to think of it, I was the one who suggested we kill Ash the first night (sorry @Ookla Fell From The Sky! It was nothing personal! actually it kinda was I was annoyed that you didn't trust me in PMs). I felt no remorse whatsoever XD- 1329 replies

Likely not. This was what MR46 was like too, until Illwei and all the other active people got killed off. It had calmed down a little bit by the time I died, at least?- 1329 replies

Can confirm XD only I was never the one who submitted the elim kill. I did play a part in our mislynch of Gears, though. That was fun- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
It was my first game lol Also if you look back through my posts in MR46, I subtly-or-not-very-subtly village-claimed in many of them (and Gears can likely confirm that I did this a lot in our PM as well). Also I've done that in other posts in this same thread. Edit: @Ookla the Grammatical You're never going to let the Mat-pocketing-you thing go, are you...- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Probably. The problem is, I find it hard to know when to listen to my own judgement (which has been right occasionally, after all) and other people (who have also been right a lot of the time when my own judgement was wrong), and when I realize that I should probably be listening to other people, it's hard to know who's worth trusting, who's misguided or incorrect, and who's actively working against me. As a villager, anyway, I'm bound to screw up eventually... being an elim is easy lol I just listened to what Mat said and did everything he told us to. I miss that...- 1329 replies

Gears happens to fall into the category of "more experienced players" relative to me. So I may have, ah, chosen the wrong experienced players to listen to, but that's definitely what I was doing Edit: you'd think I'd have learned from that...- 1329 replies

Wait... I actually convinced someone of something??? That's probably a bad sign, given what happened in MR46... Oh well, I'll live with the consequences of the actions people take because of me, I guess.- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
By the way, in case it hasn't been pointed out already (it may have been, I only skimmed the last page or so 'cause it was all just a back and forth on Illwei vs. Connie): - Illwei always plays like this, as far as I can tell. I've played two games with her so far, and in both of them she did exactly this, and she was village in both. Also, I thought she was sus in both games, even though (I've said this way too many times before) I was actually an elim in one of them... - Illwei also died during the first round in MR46, so I'm sort of willing to cut her some slack - Also because she's doing exactly what she's done in previous games, I'm inclined to read her as village for now. Which makes me read Connie as sus Edit: Well, I've made TJ's point for him then @Ooklil' the Wei- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Oh, right, I switched to follow TJ on reading STINK as village(ish) because I tend to trust more experienced players' reads of people, since I don't have my own. Yes, I felt like an idiot when I remembered that Nightblood starts off as an elim mechanic... I mean, like, how did I forget that? Also yeah sorry I may have slightly overreacted to your post and Fura's... I'm... not exactly in the best mood atm? My brain decided to remember the fact that I haven't seen anyone other than my immediate family since March... I... yeah anyway (Illwei with her excessive ellipses is rubbing off on me)- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm defending Gears mostly because there wasn't really much of a reason to vote him, as I said before, and because I like playing with him so I'd rather he not die D1. I guess I can see how that would read as sus but we did spend a lot of time talking in PMs the previous two games we played, so... Yeah. That's why. Also, honestly I don't know why you say I seem confident about what the elims will think/do. I mean, do I have to add the qualifiers "maybe/probably/kind of/sort of/I think/etc." to everything I say? I've been trying to do that less since I'd rather not sound as insecure as I am... Those first two (me giving advice to the Bearer of Nightblood, me reversing my opinion on part of Gears' post) were solely because I hadn't read the rules since I signed up, so I'd forgotten that Nightblood started in elim hands and that if the Truthless died, the Stone Shaman could then be killed. After a couple of people pointed those things out, I went back and reread the rules, so hopefully I won't make anymore mistakes like that. The third was because someone else acted certain that there would be Honorblades in elim hands, so I wanted to double-check whether that had been confirmed at some point and I just missed it. I... don't actually remember what the fourth thing was... oof I'll go back and check and put my response in an edit. Edit: yeah there's no indication of what that was referring to... As for the last thing, the rules post? Please remember that this is my third game and the first LG I'm playing, and that was essentially the first rules analysis post I've ever made. So like... cut me some slack, perhaps? Edit: @Ookla the GrammaticalEven though I put it bolded and in red... anyway Connie I guess. I do dislike the D1 vote, even though I know it's necessary, because everyone says we should all give reasoning but there's no reasoning to give, except for gut-reads based on previous games, which I don't have because I haven't played enough oof...- 1329 replies

Hmmm theoretically, the Vanisher could be Jasnah? Soulcasting people into smoke again or whatever? Idk that's a pretty tenuous conclusion to draw, but she's the only one I can think of who's killed someone and not left anything behind.- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yes, that's (more or less) what I meant. Even if we do end up lynching a villager, having more people contributing means we have more to go off of for reads, and it means that the elims can't as easily sway the lynch the way they want it to go.- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think what you mean is that even if someone is village, has no information, and either has no strong reads or doesn't like to go off of reads, they should still vote because it makes it harder for the elims to manipulate or shift the lynch?- 1329 replies

And again, if we make a habit of shifting our votes frequently or retracting them altogether, they become less meaningful, put less pressure on people, and are thus a less effective way of gauging reactions.- 1329 replies

It's D1, what did you expect? Edit: Also I'm realizing that I'm responsible for probably about a third or a quarter of the posts that have been made in this thread, and that if I want to not look sus next time I'm an elim, I'm going to have to keep up this level of activity... great.- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ohhhh I misunderstood what Illwei meant by role speculation. I thought she meant "speculating about what the different roles might do" for some reason. And yeah, I'm not about to vote based on what I think others roles are or aren't. Also, we get more information if we see for sure what someone is, and then use that to extrapolate information about the people who defended that person or voted for that person. People feeling threatened can give us reads, but we never get anything concrete out of it. Also, no one would feel threatened if they knew we were going to all retract our votes before the end of the day. Edit: Additionally, the elims likely wouldn't retract their votes, which would be hidden by the fact that I doubt every villager would retract their vote either (through inactivity or because they think the "we'll just threaten them" idea is flawed), so then the elims would control the lynch. Which is exactly what we're trying to avoid. Not having a D1 lynch only works if the vast majority of people agrees that we're not going to, and agrees that anyone who votes D1 is sus and should be lynched. Otherwise the elims take advantage. (as we've already been saying lol sorry to reiterate the point)- 1329 replies

Why isn't speculating about roles good village practice? Meant as a genuine question, not necessarily an accusatory one or anything. Also, if you want Fura to come play you might Mention them in your post instead of just voting them, since they won't get a notification for that. Using an Honorblade as an excuse is stupid anyway; if you're being voted off it's likely because people think you're an elim. If you're an elim, and you claim to have an Honorblade (which is quite possibly a thing that could happen even on D1), we are going to be more likely to want to kill you, so that you don't have an Honorblade anymore. Edit: I meant so that the elims don't have that Honorblade anymore. Slightly odd phrasing on my part, my bad.- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm not assuming the village has all of them, especially since Ash declined to confirm whether we do or not. Also, as soon as a Bearer dies there's a chance that an elim has one, regardless of whether the elims started off with one or not. Also, Kaladin can claim to have Ishar's Blade and use a vote-change demonstrate/gain legitimacy (like SfS did with Danex in MR46). However, regardless of that, the elims will be able to coordinate their surges, and if the village wants to stand a chance against them we'll likely have to do the same to some extent. It's a risk, but it's one we sort of have to take at some point. I do think that the Stone Shaman should avoid claiming unless it's either necessary or almost certain that the person they're claiming to is village. I like this idea; it makes it harder for the elims to hide through inactivity, and it gives us more to get a read off of. Also I think I may very well become one of those players who advocates for lynching inactives later in the game, since I never again want to see all the active villagers get voted out (including myself) and then sit in the dead doc watching the elims rein free. ...iirc I actually stayed in the background for most of QF48. Since it was my first game and the other elims advised me to appear relatively inactive, since new players can get away with that pretty easily. I tried not to put my opinions out there too much, except in the elim doc which you wouldn't have seen until the end of the game. I did do a lot of thinking in MR46, though I think it did more harm than good tbh... Edit: oof I didn't realize I double-posted... sorry...- 1329 replies

Long Game 72: The Secret of Shinovar
Quintessential replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hmmm I guess I hadn't thought of Gravitation like that... as a villager it doesn't necessarily tell you as much, but if you're an elim, you would only use it on non-elims, and anyone you scan who has an action is probably worth killing, whether they have an Honorblade or not. Regardless of that, I'd argue that in some cases it probably does make sense to tell someone you have an Honorblade. Tension, Illumination, and Progression are more useful if you know that the person you target them with is a Bearer, so it's especially important for the Bearers of Vedel's Honorblade, Pailiah's Honorblade, and Ishar's Honorblade to know of other people who have Honorblades; less so for Shalash, since whoever has that blade also has a blade-scan, but it's still beneficial to them to have Light-free way of learning about others. It's risky to claim to have a particular Honorblade, but I don't think that never claiming is the solution here; if the villagers have no idea of who has the other Honorblades, then it becomes far harder for us to effectively use Illumination, Progression, and especially Tension, and all three of them are important surges.- 1329 replies
