Mid-Range Game 47: Conflict of Superiority
Quintessential replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ventyl for reasons stated in my last post. My reluctance to vote hasn't just been caused by my desire to be able to prevent ties, though perhaps I've been overemphasizing that part of it. I've also noticed that I have an unfortunate tendency to change my mind with each new post during C1, and if I vote early I then find myself constantly shifting my vote from person to person to try to keep up with my own current opinions. Most recently, see LG72 D1, where I voted someone, shifted my vote off of them, voted them again, and then shifted my vote off of them again, and where my final vote ended up contributing to a tie (which didn't exactly end favorably for the village either). My point is, I partly wanted to try to avoid doing that this game, and cast a vote with more certainty. Which I've now done. I may have waited a bit long and overcorrected, despite that I think I feel better about how I've acted this cycle than I usually do. That... ended up being longer than I intended oof The doctor can only protect from Tenasi and elim kills, I believe.- 499 replies

Mid-Range Game 47: Conflict of Superiority

I asked Archer for more information too... Thank you for the reasoning on Snipexe. While I don't think that their statement that the C1 vote rarely hits an elim is AI, since in my (admittedly limited) experience that's just kinda true, now that you've pointed it out I'm realizing that they do seem to be overly quick to dismiss info gained from C1... slight elim read on Snipexe for that. Yes, I noticed this as well--I'm thinking that Ventyl/Snipexe might be e/e, and for the moment reading them as both slight elim. I still don't like this refusal to share information; however, if an explanation isn't forthcoming eventually as to what exactly Archer is trying to do, and what Matrim thought Archer was trying to do (if the two things aren't the same), we can always vote them off later. I think elim!Matrim would realize this, and not try to defend Archer by claiming the existence of a strategy that just doesn't exist. Also, I would guess that elim!Archer would just share whatever suspicion they have, since an elim wouldn't have much to lose by doing that as far as I can tell. So I'm inclined to read them both village for now, though that could change if we never do get an explanation of all this. I mean, elims always have secret strategies and generally they don't openly announce their existence on the main thread XD (this is my main reason for reading Matrim/Archer as vil). Also, you are absolutely not coming across as a newbie lol... my first game I tried to say as little as possible and most of what I did say was hesitant and/or incorrect (sometimes on purpose since I was elim but still). You seem to have a fairly good idea of what's going on anyway. k so this also makes me a little nervous about Ventyl... as soon as we called them out for a vote we thought was suspicious, they switched and voted for someone else? Though that almost seems TWTBAW (too wolfy to be a wolf) to borrow a phrase of Illwei's. I'll hold off on voting for the moment, since I'd like to make sure I can prevent a tie or a close vote if one seems likely (in addition to ties being... worse than usual? in this game, I have an aversion to ties after what happened during the first part of LG72). However, if it doesn't seem like my vote could be used elsewhere, I'm leaning towards voting Ventyl. Edit: also @Elandera could we get a vote count? Thanks- 499 replies

Oh. Uh. Wow, I should have remembered that. You voted Straw.... I even went back and reread my post where I asked you about reasoning, and Straw's name is right there in red... I promise I'm usually smarter than this, you guys! Edit: I've spent most of the day going back and forth between this and my frantic, last-ditch attempt at finishing my OB reread before I get my copy of RoW tomorrow, so I apologize if I say more random incorrect things like this, but that's probably why I'm just a bit distracted is all Edit edit: Who am I kidding, I say and do stuff like this even when I'm not distracted XD- 499 replies

Archer, all we have right now are suspicions, and publicizing it now will make it seem less out-of-thin-air if it becomes stronger or more urgent later. Also, the best thing for the village is always to share info on suspicions and the reasoning behind them; that way, we can debate and organize and hopefully exe an elim or two in the near future, yeah? They have the advantage in communication already, so anything we can do to even that up helps. And our advantage is in numbers, so the more of us contribute and collaborate to solve the game, the better we'll do. Also, I asked Matrim what the exact reasons for voting Snipexe were earlier, but he didn't respond--probably because he'd already removed his vote on Snipexe. So @Straw and @Archer, could I get an explanation? If Snipexe is exed this cycle, the reasons that everyone voted for them will be important information, and it's probably better to have everyone state their reasons clearly and explicitly now than try to have them remember later. (and I'm too lazy to go read back through the thread xD)- 499 replies

Mid-Range Game 47: Conflict of Superiority

The death pact is an idea proposed in QF48 (which had the same rule about ties). Ghander and I were both elims in QF48, so we were both secretly kind of in favor of it? But like. I kinda wanted my first elim game to last more than one day XD Basically, the idea was that everyone would vote for one other person, so that there would be a tie between everyone and everyone would die. In that game, the GM had confirmed that if everyone died at the same time, the village would win. However, the obvious flaw with that was that the elims could just remove their votes last-minute, or vote-manip to safety. And then we would have won.- 499 replies

Alright, Breaker the Loyal Actually, some people do keep profiles of every player they've ever interacted with. I don't have that kind of patience or time, and don't understand how anyone else does... but apparently some do? I agree with you on Ash, though I've never actually played with elim!Ash so take my opinion with a grain (or a spoonful) of salt. Breaker seems pretty village to me as well, mostly because I stand by my assumption that an elim new player would be advised by the more experienced elims to take advantage of being new, either through inactivity or feigned incompetence, and for the most part Breaker has demonstrated neither of those things. (and of course I agree with you on me as well ) Okay well I had written up a whole thing about how ties are bad and how this is unfortunate, but since you've rescinded the vote I guess it's irrelevant. I will say part of what I had before though, which is: Since I don't really have solid D1 reads, and in the past I've regretted most or all of the D1 votes that I've cast, I'm going to refrain from voting this cycle. However, since I have no solid D1 reads I would be equally amenable to X-ing anyone, so if there is a close vote towards the end, I'll vote for whomever has more votes, and if there's a tie I'll vote to help break it. Mostly because I'm too lazy to look back over the thread, and partly because... well, because I'm too lazy to look back over the thread, what is it about Snipexe's posts that reads elim? It has something to do with delaying saying stuff, right? NO. Just NO. Edit: I started off writing this only in response to Breaker... and then noticed that Matrim had also posted (somehow I missed that when I first looked at the thread : P)... and then more people posted... and then more people posted... anyway, this wasn't supposed to be this long but it ended up that way somehow XD- 499 replies

Yuuuupppp I am in fact. Heklos... I mean, I guess you don't have any particular reason to but I would appreciate it if you would open a PM or two for me? Please and thank you? Also, I'm attempting to not respond to every post because I have been informed and have noticed that it makes it kind of hard to reread the thread for analysis later, and most of the stuff I say contains little substance. (I don't know how well I'm doing at posting less, but I'm trying at least.)- 499 replies

Not that it would actually matter... Figments, if you see someone kill and there's only one kill that cycle, they're almost certainly an elim. If there are two kills there's still a 50% chance. Edit: So maybe say something, if that happens.- 499 replies

Oh. Right. The elims always (almost always?) have access to a Google doc where they can communicate, plan, and generally create evil happenings, all the while free from the prying eyes and ears of the village. Edit: It'll be posted at the end of the game, in the Aftermath. imo one of the best parts of an SE game is Ctrl+Fing your name in the elim doc to see what they said about you.- 499 replies

Actually, I had a question about this as well: if a Figment targets the DS, does the Figment see that person's investigation for the cycle? If so, does the Figment see both the investigation and any action the DS might take? And does a Figment see elim-kills? Basically, can a Figment be used as a kind of alignment scanner Edit: @Elandera?- 499 replies

In games where there are a lot of PMs (private messages, in case you didn't catch that from the rules description), "PM safety" refers to not telling other people sensitive information in PMs. Not... something I'm great at tbh XD- 499 replies

Mid-Range Game 47: Conflict of Superiority
Quintessential replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Welcome to SE, Breaker! Yes, I noticed that clause in the rules as well, though it's perhaps not as big of a deal as it seems. My first game (and only elim-game so far) was QF48, which had the same rule about ties, and we never actually had a tie that game. Admittedly, that was because I and my fellow elims weren't put into a position where it was necessary for us to exe multiple players (that was the same game where there were more of us than anyone thought there should be). On the other hand, though... From what I've seen in the games I've played, the elims typically have access to a vote-manip, and with the Cambric's completely anonymous vote Edit: posted too soon hold on With the anonymous Cambric vote, the elims could easily manipulate a close exe to be a tie. So looking at it that way, it's a reasonable concern, and we should avoid close exes if possible. Then again, we always say that, and it doesn't always... work out that way. *cough*LG72 D1-D3*cough*- 499 replies

Quintessential replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I will second this (as one of the other elims from QF48); we really don't want them to have that advantage. Working under the assumption that there are four elims, we can say that, as xinoehp512 pointed out in the first version of this cycle, we can't afford many mis-exes. So... uh... I mean, I know better at this point than to expect us to hit an elim with the C1 exe, but we should aim for that. And starting next cycle, we really need to focus on providing detailed explanations for our votes, and being careful who we exe. I have yet to play a game where the village wins, and I really want to see this be the first.- 499 replies

The problem with eliminate is that we love to shorten things, and so we would inevitably say "elim" which would get... very confusing. Mob isn't a bad idea though, actually- 1222 replies
