I'm tempted to string you along, but I'll make it easy and say yes, that was a typo of Borogove. Positive view of Quinn for claiming it too because it'd be better for e!them to stay quiet about it and exploit its power with a late move.

Ah, cool okay. Wonko made the same typo in his post so I thought it could be a real thing lol

You're playing a blackout rhyming game and you want clarity? :P.

    Fair point lol

    Understood.

  2. I am so sorry I've been so inactive; I've been really busy catching up on some homework, and every time I try to form coherent thoughts about the game it doesn't... really work lol

I can at least claim, though; I'm a Borogove. (Not a "Borotove" like Archer, I'll get to that)

Also I will note that my original assumption at the beginning of the minigame was that all roles were also alignment indicative (between the weirdness of this game and how long it's been since I played forum mafia, I kind of forgot that that's not usually the case on here). The flips this cycle have reminded me, though, so at least one thing has gotten through the fog hovering around my mind.

I have... no reads. I mean if you put a gun to my head and told me to guess I'd say Wonko reads relatively village to me, and Mat doesn't intuitively read village to me but I'm suspicious of him in the way that I usually am when we're both village so I think I'm going with village on Mat too.

Other thoughts... I am almost positive that Archer is in fact a Borotove (which, as near as I can tell, is a combo of my Borogove role and the Tove role), because of this:

    2 hours ago, Archer said:

I'm a Borotove in need of a friend. PM me if you know you know

I do in fact know, and I cannot think of a way that Archer would know unless he was actually a Borogove or a Borotove (even if he's elim, because in order for him to know anything about the Borogove half of his role without being one, one of his teammates would have to have known; so far we haven't seen a Bandersnatch Borogove flip, so that would mean there'd have to be 4 elims which I'm pretty sure is not the case). Given how inactive Wit was, I have a hard time believing anyone claimed to Wit/Archer and explained the role before Archer got switched in. And I don't know why anyone would have made up the combo name "Borotove" as a fake role, so I have to assume that either that's a mistype of my role or a combo of Tove and Borogove (and the latter is way cooler).

So in conclusion, I'm pretty sure Archer is a Borotove (and I already PM'd him because I don't need my action for anything else). Archer/Wonko, if I'm wrong about this feel free to lmk lol

I don’t think Quin is elim, based on nothing

I'm the exact opposite, which puts us at a rapaplod of opinions

I would be curious to know what this means; from what I can tell that "exact opposite" bit could mean that he thinks I'm an elim based on a lot of things, that he doesn't think I'm elim based on a lot of things, or that he thinks I'm elim based on nothing. Clarity would be appreciated, especially since he did unvote me later in that same post lol

That being said, that post does give me a slight village read on him. I'm a bit worried because I could very easily see our last Bandersnatch being a Boro(g/t)ove (the thing about the Borogove role is that it's a passive effect not an action, so it's perfect for an elim team, especially one that's up against the kind of odds they have in this game). I also initially read his claim as mildly suspicious for some reason, but having gone back through the previous posts that lead up to it I think I've changed my mind.

As for the Jabberwock, I'm pretty sure I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said already. Well, possibly one thing. But I'd have to reveal what Borogoves do in order to make that point and I'd at least like to consult with Archer first before I do that, just in case he thinks of some fatal flaw in that plan that I haven't seen.

In the meantime, Aman, it would be very nice to hear from you; also @Fifth Scholar can we get a VC?

As an alternative exe, I will propose Quintessential. A number of you are aware of a certain test I’ve been using to softly confirm alignment; Quinn is among the players who did not pass it. She did not directly fail it, either, though, so this is a very soft vote — I’m willing to direct it elsewhere if another viable alternative to TKN presents itself.

What test? All you’ve done is ask me the name of my role and tell me the name of yours. I have a hard time seeing how that’s AI.

also sorry I haven’t been posting much, I’ve been sleeping really badly for the past several days and am absolutely exhausted.

I also don’t really have reads on anybody or know who to vote for which is a problem because my role has to do with voting and is probably kind of important…I just also don’t want to make things worse for us either.

Wait, what's this hint? I just thought that he was speaking about the outcome of the action of his role from the previous game.

Okay I’m on my phone and can’t for the life of me figure out how to move quotes around in the editor so just imagine I quoted the two posts I’m referencing lol

so it turns out I was an idiot and misattributed a post Mat made as being a post Ash made in my head. The two posts  I was thinking of were Ash’s “Fifth how could you” post, which I originally had a hard time figuring out how that could be in reference to last game cuz none of the stuff that happened was actually on Fifth except for role assignments but there was so much going on that on its own I would just ignore that.

and then I had thought Ash said a thing that he then felt the need to follow up with “that’s not an sk soft”, but it turns out that was a post Mat made, not a post Ash made.

    so, Ash.

I’m wary of C1 voting Mat (I have done it many many times and I tend to be wrong, see C1 of this game for a wonderful example of that) so for now I’m not gonna do that lol

Quinn I pm a bunch, and yes I have pm powers, but that doesn't mean I'm any good at reads or actually playing :P

Yeah no I'm not generally great at reads either, I get it. I wasn't saying it was weird you were PMing so much, just wanted to figure out whether there were PM roles floating around (because I don't think there were last minigame? could be wrong about that though)

Anyway, if it doesn't give any additional information away, what's the name of your role? I have a theory that the roles in this game are gonna be named from the poem, so like slithy toves, borogoves, mome (edit: or is it mome raths?), maybe a jubjub bird or a tumtum tree or something, and I wanna see if that pans out.

Also if there's a village kill role, it may have something to do with the vorpal sword, or there may be a vorpal sword item that allows its wielder a kill each cycle, or something like that. Though last minigame had so many items that I think it's less likely this one will have them.

But yeah, given how many of the roles and items from last minigame were drawn from the original text it seems likely they will be this time too.

My wonko read is basically that he’s still hung up on the last game and hasn’t made any (visible) efforts to solve the current one. I would expect elim!wonko to try to appear “villagery” by tying to solve here (maybe throwing out some distro speculation or a read or two) given how driven he was to achieve his wincon last game. I will say this read is exclusive to wonko only for obvious reasons and I’m not applying to, say, Xino or TKN, who have also only spoken about the previous game.

I see your point but I also think village!Wonko would be genuinely trying to solve and gather info, so the fact that he's not feels weirder to me than if he were (though, granted, I've never played a game with Wonko before this one so I could certainly be wrong about how he plays when he's village). It's also possible he's just busy though lol if I had to read him now I'd say he's ever so slightly suspicious but that's subject to change as soon as he says anything about the game itself.

Hopefully that dies down after this turn. Ideally we focus on discussing the players actually playing— that was what I was getting at in the post Quinn flagged C1, where I said I didn’t like how much discussion was focused on inactives and self centered votes. We were completely ignoring the people who were posting until one in particular stopped posting but it was a faction (mini)game so that’s forgivable. Here though, reads should be made.

I’m okay with the Exp vote based on PM vibes. Reserving judgement since I feel like I hop on Exp too quickly too often but he feels to me like he’s trying too hard to appear to be Not Elim.

Ahhh yeah I can see that; sorry about last (mini)game, I suspect I'm somewhat responsible for the train on you : P

Also, when did Exp open the PM with you? Because he opened a PM with me at the start of this cycle, so unless yours was from before, he must have some kind of PM related ability. (I haven't gotten any vibes from him yet, basically all he's said is that he was kind of unsure how to read people because it's been so long since he played.. which is actually a little weird given the interactions between him and you, Mat, but I think he sent that PM before all of that happened.)

    i think wonko is village

    Ash is outed as not-villager

Wonko has said exactly nothing about this minigame so far, so I think it's a bit premature to label him definitely village (edit: I reread that and realized you weren't saying it quite as strongly as I thought but my point still stands). (for reference, I've quoted all of his posts so far below. Three about the previous minigame, one about PM rules staying the same).

14 hours ago, Wonko the Sane said:

I could do it for everyone, if you like. :P

(edit: this was referring to revealing roles from the previous minigame)

14 hours ago, Wonko the Sane said:

Pretty sure the PM rules are the same, since those were established in the signup announcement, not in a minigame.

Also, if Ash is hinting that he's not a villager, doesn't that mean we should vote him?

It's possible I'm missing something that makes that Not a Good Idea so if I am please lmk. I guess it's also possible Ash is just trolling us lol especially because village win-con is to kill all non-villagers

Not a super solid vote but I'm fine with it being there where it is for now.

Pretty sure we get to keep our PMs, yeah.

  7. 16 minutes ago, Wonko the Sane said:

If your faction is what I'm currently guessing, I'm again more interested in you being small, rather than large. Assuming I'm right, would you be willing to accommodate that? I can promise that being small has a pretty strong advantage as well.

I’m gonna be honest I don’t think I’m part of whatever faction you’re thinking of. Like, I have a suit, but none of my anything has anything to do with it, and I wasn’t given a faction, just a role (and I don’t think that role would work very well if there were more than one of it, like having more than one doesn’t make sense) I think I might be a truly neutral player—my role was in yellow and everything lol

That being said, I am absolutely chill with being Small instead of Large if it helps you out :) the reason I chose Large originally is cuz it appears in the player list and I figured giving everyone as much confirmation as possible would be good. So I will do that, yeah

  8. 2 hours ago, _Stick_ said:

Hm okay fair enough but can you do me a solid and apply for a seat at the tea party today. I promise nothing bad will come of it  @Quintessential you too, please? I will not be targeting either of you with any nefarious actions, but I wanna check for a thing.

Wayyyy ahead of you. My win-con requires me to sit at the Tea Table at least once (I don’t think that gives anything important away? Whatever I don’t know how much I can say because there isn’t anything built into my role that means I have to hide it, but I’m worried that there’s someone else whose win-con involves stopping me or getting me killed so idk???) so the first thing I did this cycle was submit that action (last cycle I didn’t have time to do anything until 9 hours before cycle end so I probably wouldn’t have made it even if I’d (edit: hadn’t) been blocked).

    40 minutes ago, Experience said:

Huh. Ig Quinn probably did have a mushroom. I still feel like she attempted another action as well tho cuz she claimed it was a free action right?

Yeah I did do an action as well.

I don’t really know why people are voting Ash—he seems alright to me—but I guess I have nothing against it lol

  9. 11 minutes ago, Experience said:

Wouldn't that make you the most likely to have submitted a kill action this round cuz we know you were roleblocked?

Mmm yeah that did occur to me when I was writing the post; I figured the benefits of sharing the game mechanic outweighed the risks of me being killed. (I don't have access to a kill action, but I also can't prove that without revealing my actual role, so...)

10 minutes ago, Wonko the Sane said:

That is not precisely what Pepper does; and in fact, if I guess correctly, it was Mat or another Animal who used the Pepper on you, and they were actually hoping not to roleblock you at all.

It... would be nice to know what it's supposed to do, then. Because what it did was block me. Also, why specifically Animals? Unless you've been deliberately misleading in your wording, you didn't know Mat was an Animal until he died, so presumably none of the others did either? Is it an item or an action that only Animals have?

  10. Well, someone blocked me by attacking me with Pepper. It appears to block all actions the targeted player takes, whether they’re normal actions or free actions. Very curious whether that was an item or a repeatable action. Also very curious to know who did it.

but yeah, figured I’d let y’all know that there is an action-blocking mechanic in the game.

which, I suppose, means it’s possible there is an elim or elim-like faction and they got blocked this cycle.

18 minutes ago, Wonko the Sane said:

This confirms a theory of mine, though: your suit is your faction; there are therefore probably four factions.

I do not think this is true; if it were, our win-conditions would relate to our suits in some way, or we would be able to earn points in a way that has to do with our suit, neither of which are true for me at least.

It looks to me like Mat’s faction was Animals of Wonderland, which is in green, suggesting it’s more village-y in nature. But that could just be the color that was chosen for it.

I also find it very interesting that each of us have or are a card, but which one is not revealed when we die (or at least wasn’t for Mat).

  11. Just now, Wonko the Sane said:

Have you used your action yet? If not, I'd love for the opportunity to compare factions; we might be allies. I've already used my PM trying to make contacts elsewhere, but if you open one with me, I'll give you my faction name without obligation, and give you the details of my wincon in exchange for your faction name.

I've already used my action; I kinda have to in order to complete my win-con, sorry. If one of us has the chance next cycle though we should definitely make a PM to compare notes.

  12. Hmmm I will say, Mat is afk for this whole thing iirc, so I would feel a little bad if he died without being able to defend himself... idk though, I don't have reads on anyone else yet. To me, Ash's question seemed neutral--I don't think it (edit: it meaning any possible answers to the question) actually gives away any information? Unless he has some secret win-con related to queen cards or something which seems dubious to me because then he'd probably know whether there were more or not.

  13. 7 minutes ago, Experience said:

Why do I feel like Mat is the Queen?

I don't think we can really tell who's the Queen at all just yet? Because idk what the queen is even going to look like; she definitely sounds elimmy, but we don't actually know what the queen's win condition (probably not "kill everyone", this game is way too short) is or whether she has allies. And like Wonko, my PM didn't mention Alice or the Queen, so I'm not sure what exactly I'm supposed to be doing in relation to them.

However, I have been debating whether or not to vote Mat, and I don't blame you for finding him a bit sus, cuz I keep getting weird vibes from him too... There was something he said earlier in particular... Oh yeah, this.

5 hours ago, Matrim's Dice said:

The amount of agreement on a CC is troubling to me. And the amount of voting that is purely survival based is weird. Both probably factors of us having very little info.

It sorta felt like throwing unnecessary shade to me; I don't really remember Mat's playstyle well enough to be sure whether this is out of the ordinary but given that (as he himself pointed out), we don't have anything to go off of besides activity and trying to not die ourselves, it seems off to me to call it troubling or weird that that's what people are voting on. Also, it's C1, that's pretty normal for C1 even in non-blackout games.

    So, Mat.

  14. Oh yeah, also forgot to say this but the mushroom at least is a free action to consume (so I suspect the cake and bottle are as well).

Also @Fifth Scholar rules question: do free actions work like in D&D, where you only have one of them per turn, or can you do multiple free actions in the same cycle? Like, could I hypothetically eat my mushroom and also try to sit at the tea table in the same cycle?

Wow hi guys loving the warm welcome here lmao

I'm definitely not gonna be as active as I used to be cuz college and real life exist now; sorry it took me so long to getting around to an initial post.

Cake should make you grow and bottles should make you shrink, but im not sure on the OoA. I’m pretty sure you’d have to use an action to consume them.

Hmmm at what I think is probably? minimal risk to me I'm gonna reveal that I started the game with a mushroom, which allows me to go up or down any number of sizes.

This is possibly a stupid move but y'know what I haven't played in a long time and I feel like doing something.

Also, I can't vote for both of you so TJ, please move, I don't wanna die cycle 1 lmao

And here's an unsolicited and unofficial VC that's probably accurate because I am still me:

    |TJ| (2): _Stick_, Quintessential
    Amanuensis (1): Matrim's Dice

Feel free to shout at me if that's wrong lol

And quinn, why didnt you scan for alignments?

My plan originally was to hit people who were more likely to make it to endgame with a single scan for the first few cycles, so that I'd have a higher chance of being able to reveal a crucial person's alignment later on. But once TJ caught me and you convinced me to say whether I'd been Brigged or not, that sorta went out of the window : P

@Biplet I was frustrated that people asked precisely because I hadn't been Brigged. If I had been, I'd have had no reason to lie because it would reveal nothing to the elims that they didn't presumably already know. But saying I wasn't Brigged would tell the elims that A. I was one step closer to confirming someone's alignment and B. if there was a Brigger, they weren't protecting me. So I lied to protect myself because I didn't really have a choice.

I outed Randby because it's endgame and you guys were asking for my scan results.

  17. Biplet is, in fact an Investigator (as per my scan last cycle). I was wondering myself why Records hadn't been sabotaged yet...

And yeah I forgot this game existed for a solid couple of days, sorry about that : P

All the stuff I've gotten from scanning:

    C1: scanned Gears (no role)
C2: scanned Randby (no role) (yes I lied and said I was blocked because I didn't want to make it obvious to the elims that there doesn't seem to be a village IA)
    C3: scanned Gears (village)
C4: scanned Devo (doctor--I submitted the order before she claimed and forgot to move it after : P)
    C5: scanned Biplet (Investigator)
