  1. That reminds me: for this discussion about essays, we should probably make sure that everyone is on the same page about how long an essay is. As I was trying to figure out what my typical essay length is, I was counting the words in my Core (the other class with essays) essays, and I realized that most of them were around 1000 words. (though admittedly I did go over the page limit on those) They felt so much shorter than my english essays, which are either 750-1000 or 1250-1500 words. I guess this just further proves that English class is my most mentally exhausting class.
  2. Existential much? ... well, that's a bit menacing And a tautology is a tautology In the typical sense of "viral," a definite yes, but in the technical sense, that'd be impossible. Bacteria are not viruses.
  3. I'll use necromancy to revive it on the condition that the concept of anarchy is "elected".
  4. You begin to monologue. "At last, I am the center of this plot. And now, I shall return it back to its original and most noble course - the workings and misson of the schetiko society. (Yes I did just use google translate) Our mission is to find the dead gods and their killers. Gods are, more than any of us, creatures of stories. But over time, the stories of many of the old gods have died, taking the gods with them. We believe, no, we know, that this is no accident. Someone or some group of people is influencing the stories of the world, and we are trying to find out who. Over my many years of research, I have discovered that there may be clues on Crete, and now new ruins have been unearthed there. At this very moment, I have turned my ship towards the island and I will be arriving there soon. "Now that I am at the center of attention, I may as well test out my new powers of plot. O rule of cool, I command you, grant me MOREEEE EYEPATCHESSSS!" You flip up your eyepatch to reveal another one. You feel a shape on it that you are somehow sure is plot-relevant. It seems that your plot relevance is stronger than you had expected. That spike was certainly a good investment. Do you: Look at the mirror to see what the symbol is Head straight to Crete with no delay Go on a trip around the world to find your new Heroic Party that your plot relevance has no doubt given you See how much you can do with your Plot Relevance powers Break the fifth wall Far away, in a place not relevant to this story, an irrelevant person awakens, revived from death (or some other unpleasant fate, the specifics do not matter) by some means which this story does not care about. Away from the eyes of the narrative, they have no power, or possibly all of the power. The amount of power they have is irrelevant and unknown, though it is not forgotten. After all, forgotten knowledge is always rediscovered in this sort of story. Nameless and with all Names, they may have sworn revenge. Or perhaps not. You wouldn't know. You're in the center of the plot, as you always wanted. You have true choices now - but you did not expect that those choices would not bring freedom. Your life is restrained by the Story, it is the Story, but they have shaken off the chains of even the most minor character seen as just another nameless face in the crowd. You would envy them, if you could even conceive of them, if you could even think that way anymore. A flock of birds gathers in an irrelevant place, mourning. Nobody knows why, even the birds. There is no reason why so many different species of birds would have gathered in one place, and yet they do, for unimportant unknown reasons. The news reports on it. It is on the second page, and none of the main characters read the newspapers. The event is only remembered long enough to not be Secret Forgotten Knowledge. Remember, this does not exist. This is not part of any story. This is unimportant. This has never been nor will ever be written. The Nameless One is not real, nor were they ever in this story. Everybody knows this. Nobody remembers this. Nobody has forgotten this.
  5. I don't have enough time to go over all of the previous cycles and compile an actual reads list right now and I've been pretty busy for the past few days, but I'll post one on the weekend. Although obviously, that won't happen if I get exed. Before I re-read through a thread, I typically only have relatively tentative reads about the alignment of a few of the more active players. I only really take notes about people's posts and my opinion of them when I'm actively making a reads list, which I have not done yet.
  6. Because claiming doorman at the very end of the cycle would make no sense for an elim but it would make sense for a villager, for reasons that I described D2. Not literally everyone, but it was a place to start looking for elims. I wasn't looking for the most likely elim on the wagon, I was looking for someone who I could try to get exed who I thought was more likely to be an elim than Dannex. You were slightly suspicious and already had two votes on you, so you seemed the most reasonable alternate exe. What's your reasoning for the vote on me?
  7. And that's just in english class. In a different class I have 3 shorter essays + 1 longer paper per semester, though at least they aren't literary analysis essays.
  8. I have 4 essays per semester in english class and I hate it. Though luckily, my teacher decided to give us a bit of a break from essays this unit and is giving two creative writing options in addition to a few essay prompt options. I will take any chance to avoid a literary analysis essay, so I'm definitely going to do one or the other of the non-essay ones.
  9. I didn't think that Danex was an elim, so I wanted to place my vote on a person who could be elim who I had a chance of getting people to move onto. This was within the last hour, so I was mostly concerned with shifting the exe from Dannex, who I thought had an extremely low likelihood of being an elim to anybody who I could who I thought has a higher chance of being one. You were simply the only other even slightly person who I could hope to shift the exe to. (BTW, could you please use they/them pronouns for me)
  10. This makes me read Danex as village. Elim!Dannex could have just avoided all of this day's negative attention by self-presing and retracting the vote manip. Nobody would have likely thought twice about it. Both exe stopping and spokesperson hunting would have made more sense to do near the beginning of the cycle. The way it is, it feels like Dannex is a villager about to die who wants to at least give the context for his decisions for us to be able to take that into account in future cycles. I think that it's very likely at least one of the people who were actively pushing a Dannexe is an elim. Whysper is the only one of those who has votes on them, but I'd be willing to switch to a different Dannexe-advocate if others would be more likely to vote them than Whysper.
  11. I couldn't help it, the conversation about winning made me lose the game. And now you've made me lose it again.
  12. And you got a five hour win. I lost the game.
  13. How it works: the captain interrupts the monologue just as you're about to get to the point.
  14. I finally remembered a sort of funny story. When I was younger (8 I think?) I went to Israel for Passover and had the seder with my extended family. Each parent hid the Afikoman for their own child(ren). I couldn't find it anywhere, so I asked my dad for help and he said that it was very close to me. I still couldn't find me and eventuaally he told me to check in my hood. It was there all along.
  15. They've mostly been RPing and hasn't contributed much, but that isn't uncommon for a new player. I'm reading them as slight village because elim!FMN might have been advised by their teammates to keep a lower profile or use their newness more. I'm definitely opposed to exeing them.
  16. With a false aura of confidence (marred only slightly by your bird poop-colored supervillain getup), you say, "A game of Mario Kart, right?" "Um... I was thinking more along the lines of revenge for being made irrelevant to the plot, but that works too," she says, visibly shaken. You start playing a friendly game of Mario Kart with her and your bird henchmen As you play, you: Remember back when there was some semblance of a reasonable plot and ask her about that strange symbol Use your hummingbird minions hidden in servers across the globe to both cheat at Mario Kart and attempt to figure out her location at the same time Ask "Do you have a name, or are you just 'The Captain' like The Doctor from Doctor Who. Oooh, are you a Time Lord?'" Secretly give your most elite bird operatives your controller and use their lightning-fast reflexes to beat the Captain.
