The colonel took a deep breath. "Tell the captain that he is to write out a full report about this, and then submit it to command. Be sure to alert the garrison about him. If he's still here, then they will find him. My authority ended over the ship when I disembarked, it's up to the captain now."

The colonel turned, his face turning stern. "Escaped, how?"

The colonel turned solemn as he brought up the offensive, snapping out of the brief episode when Maddy spoke. "Of course, I'll talk with Douger as soon as I can." The colonel leaned towards Maddy, lowering his voice so that only she could hear, "thank you."

The colonel stopped for a brief moment to think. "I might need your help while I'm in town, this mission is important to command. If I need you, I'm sure I can get it past Lord Douger; he, as well as everyone else, seem to be far more . . ." The colonel raised a hand to stroke his chin as he furrowed his brow, "accommodating, since the uh, 'offensive.'"

The colonel shook his head. "I'll never understand why you want to leave the army. Well, I know that you're going places, I've known that since basic. Now, what exactly is your assignment here?"

The Colonel looked towards his men, who were still a ways off. He then slouched ever so slightly, as if he were allowing himself to relax just a smidge. "'More capable' than you? How did they pull that off? Last I saw you, you were well on your way to becoming a specialist."

Colonel Tulcam stood straighter as Maddy approached, noting the lack of a proper salute. "Soldier, I thought you were on some sort of mission."

Colonel Tulcam noticed that Cadenza was distracted, and he followed her gaze. He looked slightly shocked despite having half of his face being covered by a mask, then he nodded to himself.

Colonel Tulcam nodded as he listened.

"Duster Jay, I think it would be a good idea to have your 'contact' ready and waiting if we meet up with this Janice."

Tulcam nodded. "Now Duster Jay, what is it that we're doing?"

"I don't like them. Call me Colonel, Talcum, or Colonel Talcum."

"I am Colonel Adain Talcum, Paladin of the Raodean Army. Although people seem to love giving me nicknames."

"No, I don't pay attention to things like that," he thought for a moment, "Cadenza."

"Whatever it is you're doing, command is very interested in it."

"Helping Duster Jay with his mission."

The colonel nodded. "Command won't be happy with me, but it won't be the first time." He turned to Jay, "since my first mission has . . . failed, that means I need to begin with my second mission Duster Jay."

The colonel walked with Cadenza, his visible features seeming far too youthful for a man of his rank. "It's a shame, I'll have to call off the search. I can't keep my men spread thin like this; leaves them vulnerable."

"Just as I thought. Shall we go to Jay?"

"No, don't tell me. I know that I could never influence you so that you would tell me, so why even try? As soon the men finish their initial search, we'll have to call it off to save our manpower. It would seem that she escaped with no hope of finding her." All the while that the colonel spoke, he kept a straight face.

The colonel watched as the pillar shattered, but he failed to see where Trace had gone. "Fan out and search the area!" The colonel ran over to Cadenza right after he finished giving orders.
