  1. The colonel sniffed, "I've faced many who claim to bend the seas, winds, and earth to their will. If this masked one were to kill me, then it would have a lot of dead folk impressed. Now tell me, why were you left behind?"
  2. "And yet, I stand before you now."
  3. "The masked one?"
  4. "Everything. My mission is to neutralize her, and despite what everyone else says, I doubt that has happened."
  5. "I'm a colonel in the army, not law enforcement. This does mean that I'll need everything that you have on Trace."
  6. The colonel nodded as his tone of voice become more calm, "now I don't have a way to cuff you, so you'll be under constant guard. Approach me slowly, Maddy will collect your weapons when you get here."
  7. Ros looked slightly flustered, "I um . . . forgive me for asking, but about what?"
  8. Ros jumped, being startled by Crescendo being startled. "Sorry ma'a-, Crescendo. I uh . . . I can take a few steps back if that helps."
  9. Ros hesitated before stepping forward as soon as Crescendo was done talking. He stood right behind Crescendo's shoulder, standing with a straight back, but somehow still managing to look shy. He looked at Crescendo, deferring to her.
  10. The colonel snapped his head to glare at Maddy when she place her hand in front of him, only to realize who he was looking at. As he looked at Maddy, shame swept across his face as he lowered his head slightly; he took in a deep breath. The colonel looked up at Cruz after a few seconds, his face more composed, "we'll need you to turn over all of your weapons."
  11. The colonel's expression flared with anger for a brief second before calming down to a low burning ember. "I don't care if you're 'going to do better,' you have to pay for what you've already done." @Matrim's Dice
  12. The colonel ignored the question, "keep your hands where I can see them!" Without looking away from Cruz, he gestured at Maddy. "You got anything to restrain him with?"
  13. The colonel watched Cruz's movements carefully with a cold glint in his eyes that looked as if it could easily light ablaze. He stood as if he were a predatory cat, ready to pounce at the first sign of Cruz making any sudden movements. He couldn't stop thinking about all of those names that he saw on the list, and it didn't help that a good portion of them were not only men he knew and served with, but they were close to retiring to live at peace with their families. He remembered their faces, and he could never forget them, nor could he forget that they were now gone, and if he had been better at securing Trace, he could have saved them.
  14. "That is the point of a court of law; we will determine whether or not the charges are true, and you will be punished accordingly. If you attempt to resist or escape in any way, I am authorized to use lethal force." The colonel's tone of voice suggested that the he was encouraging Cruz to try to run.
  15. "Colonel Tulcam of the Raodean army. You are under arrest for acts of terrorism and mass murder. You will be taken into my custody and tried for your crimes in a fair court of Raodean law." The colonel watched Cruz carefully, taking note of his reactions.
  16. The colonel marched towards Cruz, hand on his sidearm. "Are you'Cruz?'"
  17. "Oh, custom made?"
  18. "Just some guys who got assigned to be my handlers. Now tell me, how's that whole business with the sword going?"
  19. Arthur clutched his heart. "Oh thank the counter, I thought for a moment that you hadn't been taught the sacred ritual of 's'more making,' now that would be horrible."
  20. "Wait wait wait. You got Marshmallows, but no Graham Crackers and chocolate? Please tell me that this was his idea." Arthur gestured towards Ellis.
  21. "I suggest doing her a favor and buying Hamburgers instead. As my boss always say, 'there's not such thing as a good hot dog.'" Arthur looked dead serious for a brief moment before laughing at his own comment.
  22. Arthur made a face of disgust. "Hot dogs? Why on earth would you purposefully go out and buy them?"
  23. Arthur glanced at the men at his side, "it's good to see you too, although I can't say the same about your friend. I honestly can't believe that you've not only stuck with him, but that he also hasn't gotten himself killed." Arthur spoke as he gestured to Ellis, taking a few steps towards Melody and her table. The men at his side watched not only those at the table warily, but also Arthur.
