  1. Kuno started beaming, "now that is a wonderful claim. You'll understand if I'm not entirely comfortable with sending you alone on this little task, won't you?"
  2. Kuno smiled, "then you would be a perfect fit by your own description. The target is an amal, and I want her alive. Can you accomplish that?"
  3. "And if you had a reliable trail?"
  4. Kuno gestured for Tanda to come closer, but spoke regardless of her reaction. "I have a task that should be easy for a person of the skillset that you've described Tanda. How effective are you at tracking people?"
  5. Upon seeing that she wouldn't take his hand, he simply brushed it on his shirt. "It's a pleasure to meet you Tanda, these are my companions." He gestured to the people around him, "they are also new friends of mine, but they are all wonderful people." Kuno paused for a moment, "such wonderful eyes my friend, Tanda, you would do good to not hide them so much. Eyes are much like names in many ways."
  6. "Such a fascinating skillset my friend. I believe we can use your services and afford your price, so long as your skills match the description that you've just given me." Kuno held out his hand towards the newcomer despite the distance separating them, "it's a pleasure to meet you, what is your name?"
  7. Kuno raised an eyebrow, "someone more interested in self-expression than wealth. Now you are fascinating, my friend. I think we can help each other, although I am most interested in your skillset if you believe that it's good enough to warrant such a valuable reward."
  8. Kuno let out a small chuckle, "but of course, my friend. There's work for everyone, even those with their eyes focused on monetary benefits."
  9. Kuno's face turned into a smile that started with his lips, and quickly spread to his grey eyes that he displayed openly. He displayed his hands in an open gesture as if to show that he was harmless. "My friend, I simply need help finding someone, and I have a hunch that you can help me. My companions are undoubtedly skilled, but I don't believe they are quite up to the task."
  10. The men following Jasper slowed down slightly, focusing more on keeping a solid line of men across the entirety of the hallway behind Jasper instead of actually chasing him. Soon it became apparent why, as the unmistakable sound of the metal gear typical for the palace guard could be heard from the other end of the hallway.
  11. Edgeworth clutched his chest in complete shock, paralyzed as pandemonium consumed the courthouse. As the worst of it passed, he felt a burning in his chest as he realized that he hadn't been breathing for the entire time. He took several enormous and ragged breaths as his posture completely broke. He stumbled slowly to where the defense attorney had fallen and collapsed onto his knees when he saw her In an unconscious state, she laid there on the floor as if she were dead. All at once his breathing suddenly became rapid and he felt the urge to puke as everything seemed to catch up to him. This sort of thing . . . it only happened in lesser courts, no one would dare to try anything like this in a case of this magnitude, or get away with it for that matter. He stared without focus as his shoulders slumped and his back bent over; he could only barely control his gut and breathing before someone finally came to check on him, but he could barely hear what they were saying. He didn't remember standing up, but he was being led out of the court room by some sort of medical professional as the nausea returned once again. It had to be a nightmare, this sort of thing just couldn't happen, least of at one of his cases, right?
  12. Orders were shouted, and the men fanned out to completely block the corridor as the proceeded down it after Jasper. The other two guards who had previously engaged Jasper quickly returned to their posts as the company of men went after the assailant. ---- Caden headed off to where he had last left the prisoner who had claimed to be called Jasper before a messenger stopped him. "Sir, we have two situations." Caden growled in annoyance, "speak." The messenger quickly caught his breath, "one of the prisoners has escaped, the one that called himself 'Jasper,' sir." Caden glared at the messenger, "arrange a search, I want him found!" "That's not all sir, there's been an attack on the ballroom. He matches the prisoner's description." Caden paused, considering the information. "So the fool wished to catch and kill the King in public, but he forgot to check to see if he was actually there. Ha! Gather the men, and encircle the prisoner's position! The King will want him alive for now, but I'll kill him myself if he's this persistent!" The messenger saluted, "yes sir." Caden turned away from the messenger, almost running to the Ballroom with his bodyguards in tow.
  13. "As you command, my lord." Caden turned to leave the room, sweeping his cape behind him. As soon as Caden left the room, he pointed a finger at one of the guards around him. "You, rush down to the barracks and find if there are any hunters or rangers in this castle, then have them report to me immediately. No one is to release any prisoners without my command." Caden then stalked down the hall with his two bodyguards ever present at his side. The guardsmen moved to intercept, with one of them attempting to flank to the attacker's side. Just as the men were moving to engage the assailant, a large group of guardsmen came from down the hall in a light jog, bearing down in the gorup.
  14. "I would have it no other way, my lord."
  15. "Last count had the number at seven, my lord."
  16. "We have caught the assassin who tried to kill you, my lord. There are still more assassins in the castle, but we can't know how many still want you dead."
  17. Caden bowed his head once more, "yes, my lord. What of the lockdown?"
  18. "My lord, if she is lying about knowing Robin's location, then surely if we allow her to leave she would run straight to her."
  19. "Only that she knows of and is working with Robin, my lord. She claims to not know where they are right now. If you wish for me to release this child, then I will do so."
  20. "Yes, my lord." The guards made eye contact with one another, but they stood their ground with their spears aimed for the attacker, waiting to see what he would do.
  21. Caden growled with displeasure. "My lord, she is a spy, how else could she know of Robin's betrayal? I have kept it a secret as you have ordered me to."
  22. Caden looked up towards the King with a deadly serious look in his eyes. "Yes, my lord. I should have left a more competent man in charge of the castle's defenses before I left, but I will deal with that shortly. The child sparked the interest of your Ravenness, which led me to take the child into custody. before she confessed her knowledge of Robin, another called Biana, and some manner of organization of traitors in the forest, but she refused to give up their location."
  23. "The spy is a child, my lord. I don't know how old. But there is no way one such as her could have learned of Robin's betrayal unless she were involved with that traitor." Caden flexed his fingers, which gave audible cracks as he did so. His breathing became deep and deliberate.
  24. "She claimed to have been sent by," Caden paused, speaking the name as if it were filled with venom, "Robin, my lord."
  25. "There is more, my lord." Caden let out a low growl, "I encountered a spy in the ballroom."
