Nobody's talking about the chasmfiend in the room
Dreamwa1ker replied to robardin's topic in Stormlight Archive
All I know is I want a scene next book of listeners riding Chasmfiend mounts. Like Dune but with a bunch of legs. -
Gibletish can be: Slight be I Or Lights be I Or I se(e) blight ... But it also can anagram to "Bilge sh*t"

I also am leaning a bit this way, that Kaladin is in that moment somehow being connected to and acting with both Odium and Honor. Leading up to it, Vyre says this to Lezian: Then of course Lezian ignores that, and the result is the moment with the yellow-red eyes. Could Honor + Odium = Vengeance: acting in justified righteous anger? That would fit with what Kaladin does to Lezian and also is a nice thematic fit with how Kaladin flipped the script on Lezian, taking his mantle of the Pursuer, and how Lezian's whole shtick has been vengeance (when i did a search on the book most of the instances of that word were his lines). And this Vyre line could be really on the nose when we come back later if there ends up being a Vengeance shard.

I also had this thought while reading. There are 10 tiers but why is each 18 floors? Part of me thinks it might have something to do with a combination of Cultivations number and Honors number, just as the Sibling is a combination of Honor and Cultivation. But would that mean Cultivation's number is 8 (8 + 10)? I'm not sure if I've seen a lot of 8's on Roshar, or another number of significance besides 9 and 10.

Ok I didn't make a full Cosmere team and I'm probably breaking the rules but the first place my brain went was this image: Rysn riding full-grown Chiri-chiri with Lift riding behind her wielding Nightblood while drinking from a camelbak type setup of straight calories

Shallan and the cube [RoW spoilers]
Dreamwa1ker replied to Dreamwa1ker's topic in Cosmere Discussion
@Kingsdaughter613 Yes it clearly was another cube! I'm making the assumption it is another seon inside but it wouldn't necessarily have to be. It is curious that one has dimples - it makes me think of like a phone almost, with a grid of dimples that would be the buttons to dial who you want to talk to. -
At the end of the book, it is revealed that the communication cube Mraize gave Shallan is really a seon. But I haven't seen people discussing something from much earlier - Shallan remembers using a cube like this as a child. RoW Chapter 30: Then we get more about time period: Therefore this was before she killed her mother, probably before or during her bond with Testament. Did I miss something obvious, I don't think we got an answer yet right? Possibilities: 1. She found someone else's box. Lin with Ghostbloods? Helaran? Mother with skybreakers? 2. It was given to her specifically? Could this have to do with how the Cryptics seem so hell-bent on her having a bond - did they have communications with her or Testament through this cube, as we know it can communicate with someone in Shadesmar? Was this used for observation?
-
Here is the quote, chapter 79: I missed it totally the first time - read it as he wouldn't want to mate with Venli because he doesn't like her or what she did. But now that I reread I missed the two big flags - the fact it says MULTIPLE reasons, (so probably not just that it's Venli specifically), and that last line is a really big hint.

She was headed to the perpendicularity IIRC so that would mean she comes through somewhere in the Horneater peaks - good timing for a certain novella. And if Rock is there, he has seen Nightblood and could tip her off to its current owner. Bringing up another question - certain Horneaters like Rock have the gift of seeing spren, maybe like they can see their Cognitive aspect - this maybe comes from their singer blood as Venli flashbacks describe spren more like how they look in Cognitive Realm than how they look to humans. Do we know if Rock sees anything different when he sees Nightblood? Does Nightblood looks different at all in the Cognitive Realm? We know if manifests there because Taravangian used it, but I wonder if Rock could tell and therefore could tell that Azure has an atypical blade as well.

There is a thread discussing representation with a few plural folks on this board: https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/93382-plurality-representation/

I agree, this is where I think mindset/perception could really matter. If Sazed can see Ruin and Preservation both as serving a common purpose (e.g. the fight against Odium), perhaps he could use them a bit more in concert. ..Or he's grooming someone to be the next Vessel who can view them more that way.

[Dawnshard spoilers] Theory about Odium's Intent
Dreamwa1ker replied to The Kraken's Daughter's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I totally buy this, I was thinking along the same lines. Use the Dawnshard to Change Odium from Passion to Compassion or Empathy. -
I keep wondering if Odium/Passion could be shifted or changed to Compassion/Empathy, [Dawnshard spoiler]

I was thinking more like Torment. Sounds like the recipe for a creative and gleeful torturer...

Hadn't thought of that but it's storming terrifying. And plausible - he was very Cosmere aware, constructing the Oathpact and all.
-
If Odium is God's divine hatred, would Whimsy be God's sense of humor? Because that's what I would want it to be. And I could see that tying through to irony - maybe irony being involved in how you access magic. That could definitely be both good and bad.

With Harmony having the epigraph letter in this book, and all the talk of stormlight and voidlight opposing and mixing, it got me thinking there's some similarities between Harmony's situation and Navani and Raboniel's experiments. And if there are things from this book that could point a way forward for Harmony. There's some on the nose quotes: Chapter 20: Chapter 89: Harmony has mentioned he is limited in how he can act because of the conflicting Intents of his shards, saying they are opposed. In the experiments in this book,Voidlight and Stormlight, the power of two Shards with conflicting Intent, conflict but don't annihilate each other so they weren't really opposites they just needed something else (emulsifier) to enable mixing. Navani and Raboniel each have to shift the tone slightly to get them to literally harmonize :-) Similarly, later in the book this comes up in relation to the humans and Heavenly Ones: Chapter 109 This implies that with a shared purpose, you can cause different Intents to align and therefore do more. So: did Sazed already mix the Intents of Preservation and Ruin when he took up the Shards to become Harmony? Although his name implies they are in harmony, they seem to still be conflicting so not much progress can be made, and Sazed says as much in the epigraphs: Chapter 28: To me this sounds like things aren't in total harmony yet and must shift some more to truly mix and Harmonize in an effective way. Does Harmony have a clear Purpose that is common to Preservation and Ruin yet? It hasn't been clear, but I don't think he does. The fight against Odium very well could be though - Ruin of shattering a Shard or waging war, and Preservation of protecting the people. Harmony may be able to use his power more effectively if he can clearly define this purpose and align his Intent to it.

W could likely be Worlds now that everyone in-book is getting so Cosmere aware. E.g. Killer of Worlds (book about Odium? Ishar/about Ashyn destruction? Or Dalinar if he lost?), Knight of Worlds, Kingdom of Worlds (book about Cosmere knowledge, written by Shallan?)

Ketek of Woe
-
This solution would be set up quite nicely by Dalinar and Jasnah's philosophical debate in this book about having a single ruler or more distributed rule.

Don't you just love foreshadowing? [Edgedancer]
Dreamwa1ker replied to Necessary Eagle's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ooh this is a really good one! Speaking of - have we seen this any other time this happened? Didn't Taln have some burst of lucidity in other books - Oathbringer for sure. But I'm unsure if it was before or after Szeth said his oath, and Teft was at the Tower when he said his. Also - could the Heralds be going insane so bad because of the Recreance, and no one was swearing Oaths anymore? Could having more and more Radiants swearing help the Heralds?- 9 replies

It seems really similar to Atium, I paused when I first read it: chapter 111 I know the Stormfather says it's experience but I'm not buying it, he has been wrong about other things. I don't think he's an Allomancer but there's often similarities in uses of Investiture across the Cosmere. Maybe he can Connect with them a bit and so knows what they are intending to do.
-
In RoW chapter 111 Unchained, there is a point where Ishar easily defends himself from 5 Windrunners at once. While the Stormfather attributes this to the Heralds thousands of years of experience in warfare, I think there could be a little more going on. Here's the line that made me pause: This sounds really similar to descriptions of Allomancers fighting while burning Atium, because they are doing exactly that. Now, I do not think Ishar is an Allomancer. However, Investiture across the Cosmere seems to often have some similar mechanics. Could there be a use of Bondsmith abilities that is similar to Atium effects? EDIT: realized I probably should have posted this in the RoW lore forum - how would I move the thread?

In one of the WOBs on the reddit thread, Brandon said that Sleepless ARE capable of Radiant bonds. Could there have been a Sleepless Radiant who did also participate in the Recreance, and left their plate there? Maybe for different reasons than the human Radiants... https://wob.coppermind.net/events/444/#e14336
