Mostly, I agree with what Truthwatcher said. There shouldn't really be a "big deal" about it, though. I've never had a boyfriend, and it certainly doesn't look likely that I will in the near future, as the only guys who have ever liked me are either idiots or I only see them as a friend. Like Truth said, crushes just...happen. You want to be around them all the time, your day instantly becomes better when you see them, talk to them, or if they smile at you. The simplest things they do make you feel happy and nervous at the same time. The "point" as you asked of relationships, in my opinion, is to learn. Future relationships shouldn't be the first, you could make a mistake that could have much worse consequences in the real world than it would in high school. I had a bad experience with a guy, I won't elaborate because then I'd go into a full-blown rant, but I really liked him, he said he liked me, he was a player, nothing happened, then I realized he was an idiot when he ditched a super great girl to go to a party with his psychotic ex-girlfriend. Dating should be a way to get to know people, find out what you're looking for in a future spouse, and nothing more. If you go on one date with someone, that's all it is, don't make it a big deal unless you want to. So, yeah. The point of relationships in high school is to find out what you want in a partner.
