    "But what are the Alleys?" Kindness sits down in the air in front of Dr. Gears's nose.

    "Brr!" Kindness shivers. "Portals are the worst."

    "It's okay!" Kindness's voice floats through the portal.

    Kindness sighs, flying through the air towards the portal. "This had better be safe!" She dives through.

    "What's a withergeist?" Kindness asks, then stares at the hole in reality. "Where are you taking us?"

    "Not glittery. Not glittery!" Kindness cries. Her daggers appear again.

    Kindness swirls into a silver tornado again, blowing a whirlwind of sand into the air. "That's what they all say." She points at the smiley face. "If it's that cheerful, there must be something glittery inside!"

    Kindness summons a pair of small daggers, staring at the box with narrowed eyes.

    The icing passes through Kindness as she renders herself intangible.

    "Oh dear," Kindness says sadly. "Does anyone know how to remove sand from frosting?"

    "Crossing realms is difficult," Kindness points out. "Do we still have that cake? Cake always makes me feel better!"

    "What procedure?" Kindness asks, narrowing her eyes.

    "Dr. Gears, be nice," Kindness encourages.

    "Well, how we perceive ourselves has a fifty-fifty chance of being true," Kindness muses. "I once thought I was fine after running into a bench. I was not."

    "Hello, Abigail!" Kindness settles on the sand as a young girl, legs crossed. "It's very nice to meet you!"

    "Hello!" Kindness says cheerfully. "Who are you? You kind of appeared really strangely, are you okay?"

    "Dr. Gears! No dissection!" Kindness scolds.

    "I've seen this woman before," Kindness says thoughtfully. She frowns. "If only I could remember where..."
