The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints corner
Mage replied to Kelsier'sGodComplex's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, the temples and the work done within are more important than the messages, but the actual announcement of the temples isn't as important as the messages. They could be announced on churchofjesuschrist.org, whereas the conference talks don't have quite the same effect when you are simply reading them. -

Another one in Rexburg!! Let's go! We need it with all the BYUI students. -
So I haven't written any more chapters past the prologue, because I wanted to wait until I had nailed down my characters and plot outline a little sooner, but I am going to start posting my character outlines so that you can see them and let me know what you think. Here are two main characters: Sehrum Silvan I am also going to start editing the initial post to contain everything that I have posted so far.

Steris is the best. I rusting love her. Also, I like the portrait of Breeze in the background. He is the best era 1 character.

Like the title says, this is the place to post anything funny with the wheel of time. It can be funny moments in the books, quotes, or memes and puns. I have found a disturbing lack of such things elsewhere on the internet, so I think this would be a good place to rectify that. Also, spoilers for the whole series. I thought of a funny pun earlier this week, but forgot it, so instead I'll kick us off with some memes I made spoilered for size

I'll PM you with the rest of the details and also the 27 point ability assignment.

- i cant be on as often as i used to
- so thisll probably be slow
- since its dependent on me for the story
- but hopefully itll still be fun
- i hope these tags dont get mixed up
- otherwise thisll be very confusing
- very very casual
- low commitment
- just for fun

It's all good. How about I was captain of another ship, then my ship sunk for one reason or another. I was the only survivor and was picked up by The Blue Cremling and the captain there made me first-mate because I already had ship experience. Now that we have the backstory, on to the character. Race: Goblin Class: Fighter (if you can think of a better class for a sailor let me know. Shard of Reading is already being a rogue, so it probably would be better not to have two) Alignment: Neutral Good Personality: Sarcastic, but quiet. Basically cracks jokes under his breath and then cackles his head off. Very blunt, so people that don't know him think he's mean, but he just says what's on his mind (sometimes only loud enough for him to hear though)

Okay, real quick question before I start my character. Can I be the captain of The Blue Cremling? And be a Bayle Doman style trader/smuggler? If not then I'll just be the captain of another ship. I don't want to mess up the story, but that would be a good way to quickly get my character involved.

Honestly, I forgot about that, but I think that may have been the reason I made an account. I had known about the shard for a while because I was always referencing the coppermind and saw that it was maintained by the same people, but I never thought I would make an account. The deep wealths of information in the coppermind were enough for me, I didn't need the social interaction, I'm an introvert after all. But if I remember correctly I made an account for AoN and then stuck around.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Mage replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Definitely. I have the kind of memory that seizes on the random little details, and then forgets about them, but when someone like Nameless sparks my memory it all comes back to me. (Maybe I am secretly a copper ferring) Also, I think Wayne's logic for putting the juice in the canteen was to keep his body guessing so it wouldn't get too complacent with alcohol. -
Thanks! What I was going for was since Koerik used to be their commanding officer, they had a moment of indecision. This is the woman who they respected and who trained them. I should make that more clear though. Thanks for the feedback!

Huh. This is an interesting idea. Honestly, it would be nice to have a place to post garbage stuff that I've written. Here is the first little bit of a sci-fi story I tried writing a few years ago.
-
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to double post in a topic like this, but if not just let me know. Here is the prologue. I literally just finished writing it, so it hasn't been edited/revised in the slightest. If anyone has advice on not info-dumping too much, but also not leaving the reader confused I would appreciate it. Spoilered for length
-
You're not wrong. Okay, on your word I'll begin writing that and hopefully post a rough draft of it here later today.

Alrighty, I have had some ideas rolling around in my head for a couple of years now. It started with a magic system, which led to a world, which led to a character, which led to more characters, and finally, some semblance of a plot is coming together. Since I don't have ambitions to ever publish this piece I thought I'd just have fun with it and try to improve my writing by seeking the help of my fellow writers on the shard. I am very much an outline writer and haven't created an outline yet for the whole story, but I do have the exposition planned out pretty well, and I think I am ready to hammer out the details of the plot while I start writing (wow that's a run-on sentence). So, I'll just post my work and progress here and occasionally ask for advice. Any critique is welcome. First question: Is a prologue where someone attempts to assassinate a king too derivative of the prologue in tWoK? I'm sure that my idea for this prologue is unconsciously inspired by Szeth and Gavilar, but the execution is very different and the characters involved are completely different. If it is too derivative I have a few other prologue ideas that I could pull out of my back pocket. Thank you in advance. You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Mage replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Wayne does it in Bands of Mourning. I don't quite remember his logic, but knowing Wayne I am sure that it didn't make much sense. -
It's before September 21st, so I'm still good to join right? Can we submit something we have previously created or should it be something original for this artistic brawl? And one more question (sorry), it was decided that we will PM the submissions to Xino?

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Mage replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted. The Nightwatcher runs you over with a steamroller and gives you yourself. Your bane is an irrational fear of water. I wish for a gas tank in my car that never runs out. -

Granted. You never wake up. Just kidding that was really dark. Your true bane: During all waking hours after this marvelous night of sleep you hear the local country music radio station inside your head at full volume. It turns off at 10 pm and then back on at 7 am. Enjoy sleep while you can. I wish for juggling skills like Thom Merrilin I got my wisdom teeth out in December, right as my hold on RoW came available. I had already read part one through the preview chapters. I read the whole rest of the book in three days because I was doing nothing else. -

Enjoy your Ritalin. You now have three 50 cent pieces superglued to the roof of your mouth. I wish for a hat like Abraham Lincoln -
Yeah, the short answer is that Investiture is the fuel for all of the different magic systems. It can have different flavors: breath, stormlight, etc. If you have read Wheel of Time it is kind of like the One Power. If you have read all of the books already or don't care about spoilers I would definitely check out the coppermind article. It gives a technical and in-depth explanation of investiture and how it relates to shards, realms, and what not.

While fashion is fickle, I think that dyes are a stable industry because it is a central part of clothing production despite the fashion choice. If people started preferring stripes over polka dots you will still need dyes to make either. Also, like you said they could always turn their energies toward the food industry during a time of war. I think their economy is definitely stable during peacetime, and during wartime, it would take a lot of work from the Idrians to collapse it. It definitely could be done though. The economy doesn't seem quite as diversified as economies in our world. Also, a lot of their economy depends on international trade across the inner sea which might be interrupted during a war. In the U.S. we trade with other countries, but we also trade within our country so we could still be okay if all international trade got shut down.

Well rounds-wise I was thinking once everyone is eliminated except one and there is a winner then new people join and we play again and keep the game going. Also, just to clarify we are allowed to use real places and Sanderson places? Or just real?
-
If it's not too late I'll join. If it is just let me know when the next round starts and I'll join then.
