Cadenza waved and waved until she couldn't see Janice anymore. And then she kept waving.

Cadenza rolled her eyes. "They'll be fine, Janice."

"You'd better." Cadenza let go and smiled tearfully at Janice.

After a pause, Cadenza turned and threw herself at Janice, hugging her hard. Tears streaked her face and she wiped them away. "Come back soon, 'kay?"

Tears came to Cadenza's eyes. "But what if they hurt you?"

"But I don't want you to go again! That'll hurt more than anything Trace could do to me!"

"Yes." Cadenza paused for half a moment, then made her point. "So as soon as Jack gets over here, he can get Trace out. Then Janice can come with us and I don't care what else."

"Well... you have to bring Trace. Not Janice. So if Janice and Trace are separate, then only Trace has to go."

"Trace? Afraid? Of what?"

"So if we can get rid of Trace, then Janice doesn't have to go?"

"You're not Trace and Trace isn't you. You didn't promise anything!"

"Well, you can't retrieve Trace anymore. It's Janice instead. So I guess you'll have to go back."

"Yeah." Cadenza smiled and led the way.

"I think they're maybe at school, with no access to a computer(because that's likely Vapor's situation) on the beach?"

"Janice took over, like I knew she could. She's probably not gone, but she's certainly away for a bit."

"But what if you're not you anymore? Like those Yevon?"

"You can't leave again! We're going shopping, remember?"

"No, you have to stay with us. Do you want Trace to take over again?"

Cadenza sighed as the cuts closed, leaving lighter brown scars. Her head cleared and she grinned, feeling a rush. The last of the ice around her arm melted away and she sprang to her feet. "Listen, weird monster-lady-thing, you're not taking my friend away again. This time, she's sticking around."

"You're welcome! Have a nice day." The woman turned away, muttering about flying sea animals.

"I'll follow you." Cadenza looked up at Cruz. "This is Janice, not Trace." She squeezed her eyes shut and opened them again, trying to focus.

"Who's Cruz? The guy that helped Trace get away? The snake Sylven?"

"Who?" Cadenza swayed slightly, feeling a little dizzy.
