"Aryanna?" Janice whispered. "Can I... tell you something? Later, I mean?"

"I want..." Janice squeezed Aryanna's hand. "I don't know what I want..." I just told Cadenza I hated her. My best friend in the whole wide world just ran away and it's all my fault. How could I want anything?

Janice stood in silence, then nodded. "Okay. Fine." A tear brimmed on her eyelid. "I don't need you. I don't need you to be my friend. NONE OF US NEED YOU!" She gripped her bag of clothing and threw it at Cadenza. "WE DON'T NEED YOU! I DON'T NEED YOU! YOU'RE NOT MY FRIEND! YOU WERE NEVER MY FRIEND!"

"...what?" Her voice broke. "Yeah. This one's a lot nicer than most."
