  1. He even caused Lift to experience a 1% drop in sales that quarter.
  2. And overall everyone was happy that Bookwyrm had created them.
  3. The shadowed figure looked into Shadow's eyes with a glare that could melt a hole in steel. "My identity is my own." With a flash of light, he vanished.
  4. The figure stared at him inscrutably. "I am annoyed. Do not interfere in this, mover of souls. You could ruin plans beyond your imagining."
  5. The shadowed figure watched them all, waiting for the right time to reveal himself.
  6. Nameless watched all this from his television, munching happily on some popcorn.
  7. In the dead man's hand was clutched a pendant, engraved with the markings of the royal house.
  8. Cucumber beard didn't flinch, staring into Mythos' face as the life faded from his eyes. Softly, he spoke. "Mythos. I'm... sorry. Were it not for me, Rond would never have been able to kidnap with you. I failed you, all those years ago." Then he slid backwards and collapsed to the ground dead.
  9. Cucumber beard frowned. "On the path of your father, of course. His journey remains unfinished."
  10. Cucumber gasped for breath, scrambling to his feet. "Please, master Mythos, I know nothing of that man. I wish only to help the heir along his rightful path."
  11. Cucumber beard sputtered nervously, "I-who? Never heard of him. Please tell me, what message did you father leave you?"
  12. Cucumber beard gasped painfully, struggling for air as he hung limply in Mythos' grip. "I-*gak*-assure you my friend, I mean no ill will. Please, t-tell me what I have done to offend you so."
  13. Cucumber beard fuzzed mistily, causing Rym to fall through him and land flat on his face. "Mysterious being? Oh dear. I have no idea what you're talking about." Turning to Mythos, he nodded eagerly. "You've actually decrypted it? Pray tell, what message does it bring?"
  14. Cucumber beard approached, seeming a little upset about something. "Have you deciphered the scroll, heir?"
  15. Then the rippling subsided, and all was right again.
  16. Yeah, woops. As Rym sent the message to Bookwyrm, the dark figure glanced sharply towards the bookcase Rym was hiding behind, and his voice sharpened as he spoke. "Servant, I see my trust in you was misplaced. We shall meet again soon to speak of your penance. For now, I must go." He vanished into the shadows, leaving behind only a faint scent of strawberries.
  17. The mysterious figure remained stubbornly cloaked in shadow, but Rym did get close enough to hear his next words, a rasping whisper. "You must handle him carefully my servant. If he but suspects our plan, all that we have worked for these many years will be lost. There can be no loose ends."
  18. This muttering was Cucumber beard, speaking to a figure cloaked in shadows. "-ave him the scroll. Of course he doesn't, you think I don't know how to do my job? There's no need to worry. Everything will be fine."
  19. Then he heard more muttering from farther off.
  20. As he wandered through the library, Rym heard a faint muttering.
  21. Cucumber beard nodded. "I will leave you to it." He walked from the room, and left Mythos alone with his thoughts.
  22. Cucumber beard led Mythos into an ancient library, filled with ancient texts. In the oldest of all the rooms in that library, there was a scroll. Cucumber beard picked this scroll up gently, placing it in the hands of Mythos. "It is said that before he disappeared, the ancient king left this to his heir. It is in some strange script that neither I, nor any other scholar of this land has been able to decipher. Perhaps you will have better luck."
  23. "Ah! I see now. In that case, you must follow me. There is something I must show you."
