  1. "It doesn't actually hurt that bad anymore."
  2. "Some guy called Weaver who looks a lot like you kidnapped my neighbor, then dragged us all off to a nightmare world. Then after we survived the night, he brought us here. We're all very glad to be gone from that place, and I'm probably bleeding out internally."
  3. "You killed their family?"
  4. "I didn't know you could fight. When'd you learn to do that?"
  5. "I'd smack you with my shovel if it wouldn't make my internal bleeding worse."
  6. "Screaming won't work. But if you eat it, it will give you unimaginable power for a short time, enough power to kill Desolation." Subversion winked at Abalodor in a way that said "probably not a good idea to actually eat it."
  7. "Not to be rude, but it is a bit hard to understand you, Mr. dragon. Could you perhaps speak in a modern tongue?"
  8. The shovel man looked around. "Oh, we have. Where are we now?"
  9. The shovel man frowned. "That shouldn't be hard. As I said, all we have to do is leave here before it becomes night again. I mean, he's just a nightmare."
  10. "I won't need your help dealing with him. I'll never have to deal with him as long as we leave here before nightfall."
  11. The shovel man nodded. "I'd prefer not to meet him again. Not while I'm awake at least."
  12. The shovel man groaned, sitting up painfully. "Is everyone still alive?"
  13. The shovel man collapses to the ground as soon as he's freed, bleeding from at least a dozen wounds across his body. The man raises a hand, fury evident on his face. A massive wall of violet spears appear, launching towards Weaver and the shovel man at a speed that left barely any time to react. Just before impact, they distort and vanish as a ray of light breaks the horizon. The man looks at the light in disgust as he too begins to fade. "Do not think you have defeated me. I warn you, all of you. You will see me again, and I will claim that one's life. He will not escape his fate." With that, the man vanishes into a nothing before the light of the sun.
  14. An arcing bolt of lightning shoots out from the man's outstretched hand, impacting the crystals and blowing them apart, halting the attack. "Ten minutes? But... ah, of course. You are the shadowbound of time. In that case, I suppose I don't have time to kill you right now." The man smiled. "I'll have to be satisfied with killing him instead." The shovel man's bonds pulsed, and he let out a muffled scream as spikes of violet light began stabbing through him.
  15. The man twitches a finger, summoning a wall of bones from the ground to block Weaver's strike. "I'm not the one who needs to worry about dying here." the man summons a blade of darkness and launches it at the lightling. At another gesture, skeletal hands rip out of the ground to hold the lightling in place and prevent him from dodging.
  16. That wouldn't work because the Nullite would Silence the screaming.
  17. "You're the one who brought him here?" The man came to a halt in front of Weaver, waving a hand to float the struggling shovel man over to him. "You have my thanks. You've accelerated my victory quite substantially."
  18. The shovel man rises into the air, encircled by rings of crackling violet energy. The slain bone-corpses faded into shadows, melting away into the ground. A single figure walks out of the forest, a thin man with blond hair wearing a suit and tie. His eyes are shadowed in an unnatural way, and the world seems to bend around him as he approaches.
  19. "I-" Shovel man froze suddenly, shovel dropping from his hands.
  20. The horde of bone-corpses begins to shrink as most of their number lie dead on the ground. The shovel man feels fear rising in him again as he defeats one of the last clumps of enemies. "He'll come soon."
  21. "The person who's haunted my nightmares, and the nightmares of every member of my family for centuries."
  22. "Well, we're all going to die when he shows up. Any second now, we'll finish off the last of the dead and he'll make his appearance."
  23. Shovel man fought his way over to Altair, barely seeming to pay attention as he struck down any bone-corpse that crossed his path. "Hey Altair, these guys didn't kidnap you, did they?"
  24. The man with the shovel chuckles nervously, a bit of color coming returning to his face. "I don't know. I've never had a chance to try." He loosens his grip on his shovel, then swings it into motion. He moves with incredible skill, corpse after corpse piling around him as he fights.
  25. The shovel man gripped his shovel tightly, still shaking with terror. "You still don't understand. He's not here yet. He always sends the dead first. It's only if they don't get the job done that he approaches." As if on que, an even louder grinding noise came from the forest as more bone-corpses approached.
