  1. I remember reading a theory a while ago (I don't remember who said it and I can't find it, so if you came up with this, I'm sorry for appropriating your theory) that Hoid's whole goal is to unite the Shards back into one person/thing. Again, I tried to find the post where I saw this originally but I can't, so if someone knows where it is and could point me back to it that would be awesome. Anyway, I kind of had a random thought that maybe Sazed could be the guy who gets all 16 shards. He was the prophesied Hero of Ages on Scadrial -- what if that prophecy extends to make him the Hero for the entire cosmere? As far as I know he's the only person to ever hold more than one shard at one time other than Adonalsium, so it would make sense for him to be the one fated to take all of them into him, and he would honestly be the best new Adonalsium ever. Anyway, this isn't a super fleshed-out theory but I just thought I'd see what everyone else thinks about this.
  2. Hi! I'm new to this, but here's what I've got. First off, I loved how the magic was explained and how the fight scene worked out. It really drew me into the story and has me excited for what comes next. As for more specific ideas, I think I'm definitely feeling more sympathetic towards J than towards G, but having not read previous drafts I can't compare it with anything that came before. On page 7, J uses the word "disconcerting" at the same time as he's kind of wondering what P means by tyranny and oppression. Would an eleven y/o know what disconcerting means, especially when he's unsure about tyranny and oppression? In two places, J seems to be using really modern words/gestures (page 4 - "c'mon, man" and pg 10 - a thumbs up) that seem kind of at odds with the rest of the feel of the world, which feels kind of Victorian-era-esque. I can tell you're trying to get him to sound younger and more modern, but it seems jarring compared to everything else happening in the story. pg 12 - I really like the tension here, and how the phrasing of the sentences just makes you feel J's apathy. pg 14 - It almost sounds like Al is saying that she's now dead, and that was confusing for me as I read the rest of the page. Just a slight change in phrasing there would really clear it up. Anyway, that's what I have as a newbie to this group. Hope it was helpful! *edit: I just thought I'd mention as per your question in the email that Al's POV works great, especially because her input on what's going on in the world as an older adult is helpful so we can make sense of some of the more political stuff going on. I also love how she ends it because it does give more of a sense of regret that I think is a great hook for anything that comes after. It makes me want to see her emotions resolved as opposed to ending it with a death, which just seems like a sort of resolution in itself.
  3. I get what you're saying about Kal and I totally understand, but honestly what makes him so relatable to me is that he has the same thoughts, reactions, and feelings that I've had in the past. While I get exactly what you're saying, and I feel annoyed by him sometimes as well, it is really nice sometimes to read something he thinks/feels, stop and look back to make sure I'm not imagining things, and have a little mental breakdown/celebration moment where I'm super glad that I'm not alone. I don't want to sound like I'm trying to really get onto you or anything but I relate to Kal because of his depression, and I really appreciate that Brandon Sanderson wrote a character I can really relate to in a lot of ways. (He does strike me as whiny sometimes, but I think if someone read my internal monologue, I would sound pretty whiny too haha!)
  4. My dad was in a book club with a bunch of his friends from church and Elantris was one of the books they were reading at one point. I was maybe about... twelve? My dad knew I liked fantasy and suggested I read it. I burned through it in about a day and loved it! I didn't actually read any other Sanderson books right after, but when I was visiting my family one summer after reading Elantris, I didn't have anything to read and my cousin let me borrow The Rithmatist, which I also loved. (Now that I think about it, I might actually have read The Rithmatist first, but it was all about the same time so I really don't remember.) Oddly enough, I still didn't get super into Sanderson books, and that same cousin gave TWoK to my parents for a Christmas present probably a year later. I got Mistborn either that Christmas or the year after, read it and loved it, then tracked down the copy of TWoK in our house and read that. After that I was obsessed. Now I'm a big fan of Sanderson's books and I can't believe it took me so long to get into them!
  5. Holy crap, I'm 17 and I thought I was one of the youngest people here! There are so many people who sound like they're adults and I've even seen people talking about things that happened when they were young in the 70's... I didn't expect that there would be so many other teenagers! I guess I'm not alone!
  6. Hey, just wondering, where is this and how do I join? I'm so happy there are a million posts! This is awesome! I just got really into the Shard a couple days ago and it's already been a lot of fun! I found out about it through the Coppermind. So far it's impacted me just because it's awesome to be hanging out online with lots of people who love the same things I do - not a lot of my friends have read Sanderson books and it's just awesome to see everything that goes on here and read all the mind-boggling theories. I'm kind of addicted all of a sudden and I just feel like I have a whole group of potential friends to meet and talk to and that's so exciting!
  7. Welcome! I just got here too! I don't think there's much that's better than Mistborn but Stormlight is up there... I think they're pretty much tied in my mind!
  8. Haha! No time travel shenanigans as far as I know, but anything is possible... I might not know that for sure for decades!
  9. Yes I am a Willshaper on the quiz! I think that so far... protecting even those I hate would be the hardest for me to swear because those I hate deserve death. I'm not a huge Star Wars person so it's taking me some thought on the Death Star one but I think I have to say... maybe Roshar? For any of the worlds it would be a close fight.
  10. Thanks so much for the ideas! I can't wait to try them out
  11. Hmm I think my favorite Sanderson character would be either Shallan or Elend or Wayne at the moment but I can't pick a favorite!! Even though I know a lot of people are hating on Shallan right now I love her because I relate to her oddly enough. That jelly one is hard... uh... to be completely honest I have to say that Adolin would probably be very cute as a little jelly man and yes it was definitely unexpected so points for unique surprise value haha!
  12. @go_go_gragdet Unfortunately, I'm not yet over 21 so no can do but that still sounds really cool!
  13. So a couple years ago my friend and I made Mistborn cosplays that mostly turned out pretty great. I'm trying to revamp my whole outfit and make it just that much better for this year's Halloween and also just for fun. So basically I already have a mistcloak that I'm happy with, but I'd love tips for what to put in metal vials. I made some a couple years ago with metallic glitter and water... Looked cool but failed because, apparently, water can evaporate through cheap cork and it also gets stinky in there, so I ended up with liquid-less, smelly lil metal vials. So basically I'm wondering if there are any other ideas for what liquid to put with the metals and some cheap ways to get more realistic metal flakes than just glitter, because I do still have the glitter but it doesn't look super realistic. Any other general Mistborn cosplay tips would also be awesome!
  14. Hi everybody! I'm new to 17th shard but not to the Cosmere in general. I made this account a while ago, forgot about it, and came back to make another account to find out that I already made one! So I haven't done anything with this since starting it but I'm excited to be here!
