Tropes
There are only two options in tropes
either one must fulfill all tropes exactly as dictated
or one must subvert all tropes with no regards to progressing the plot.
The second option is usually preferred
Should the Author just do what they feel works? Would some tropes being fulfilled as expected bring more surprise and weight to others changing, would not having the tropes at all be a new and interesting angle for the author to explore?
Of course not, that would be different, and might actually catch the reader off guard, or make the story unique.
Uniqueness is bad, the audience only reads one type of story and will never tire of it and desire something new.
Nor should the author ever be given control of their work to do as they please with, don't make me laugh.
