Whoops! you are correct. I had thought, and on reflection I'm not sure why, that when it detected Investiture it would turn black.

that's not for actual sand mastery that's just as an "Investiture detector". Actually performing Sand Mastery more than once is incredibly impractical

I think Hoid knows that there are some magics he won't be able to get. For example there is no way for him to become a Full Feruchemist (short of 16 Hemalurgic Spikes which I believe Hoid is wary of, never mind the fact that that wouldn't actually make him a Full Feruchemist). And although Brandon has said that it's theoretically possible to alloy lerasium with "bavadinium" to get Sand Mastery, being as: a) there is no lerasium left, and b) it would be a waste of the lerasium since Sand Mastery only works when you have access to Taldaini sand, I think it is unlikely for Hoid to get his hands on Sand Mastery. My point is that Hoid realizes he can't have everything and that he knows when to cut his losses

But why? I mean if you are releasing it, clearly you want it to spread (presumably to hype up the book). And so why would you then ask people not to transcribe it since anyways anyone can go ahead and watch/listen to it (if you regretted posting it then just take it down)? The only reason I can think of is that they don't want to canonize it (since the final version may be different), and so by keeping the exact content somewhat vague it will prevent people from getting mislead into thinking that this is the real deal. But I don't see what the whole big concern is, because this issue can be simply covered by a big disclaimer banner saying that this isn't canon.

What's the problem? The Surges have always existed and they were formalized into the Knight Radiant system by Ishar following what Honor did with surges in the Honorblades. I do not think that this is true. Because the Heralds came to Honor seeking a way to stop the Fused from returning. And the whole Fused thing didn't start until a long time after the Exodus. This may just be that Soulcasting might seem different from the rest of the surges to a non-scholarly observer. And so they identified Soulcasting as separate from the other Surgebindings.

Allomantic metals are just "keys" to the investiture which is being drawn from Preservation's "body" in the spiritual realm and not actually the source of the power. So I had a thought. Being that metal is the solid form of investiture in the cosmere, wouldn't it make more sense for the power to be coming from the metal being burned since it itself is made up of pure investiture?

Well being as metal is the solid form of investiture in the cosmere it makes sense that it can be converted back into raw investiture.

Any idea why this is the case?
