I do really love all the POV from Bridge Four. Rock's chapter is a favorite of mine. I also like it when we get interludes of people elsewhere on Roshar, and we get to see how other cultures and people are perceiving Alethkar, Dalinar, and the whole Desolation.

Yeah, I've been reading Fellowship for about a month, but I actually found a really awesome audiobook of it on YouTube, so I've been listening to that while doing puzzles.

Hello! I'll join! I like makeup when I have reason to wear it. Plays, church, girls'-night's-where-it's-me-alone-in-my-room-with-makeup-and-chocolate. To be honest, I haven't worn any makeup for about 4 months, since I only go out in public to get milk from Walmart. Speaking of pockets, does anyone else hate it when their jeans have frickin fake pockets sewn on? Maybe it's just me, but that's one of my biggest pet peeves.

I literally only had time to watch it today, because the rest of my family were inexplicably out of the house for three hours.

Just wondering, do y'all think it's wrong that every time I read the books I skip The Scouring of the Shire? I promise I don't skip anything else, it's just that chapter that I can't stand. Throughout the books, the Shire represents everything they're fighting for, the goodness and innocence. It just doesn't feel like a victory to me when they have to continue to get rid of the evil that's infected the land that has always been safe even after they've defeated Sauron.

I totally agree. Tolkien really just wanted to display his world, not tell a story. I think nowadays we're more used to fast-paced stories that don't go so deep into mythology, and that's why so many people get freaked out by the books.

I feel like we're at the point where everyone's super done with all of this, but we still attempt to be careful. I just found the pool at my rec center is opening in a couple of weeks, but they take our temperature at the door. I'm going no matter what!

Yeah, unfortunately, reading the Silmarillion was, for me, like reading the Bible the whole way through, which is a feat I find I don't wish to accomplish.:) The rest of you have said it all! Though I do have the bad habit of complaining to my brother every time Tolkien goes off on a tangent about trees or someone sings a really long song in Elvish, I do enjoy reading the books, just for a very different reason than the movies. There are very few instances in the books where I truly connect with the characters, (Some of those being when Faramir talks to Eowyn in the House of Healing, or when Pippin and Merry are re-capping the Battle of Isengard.), whereas I love the Mythology and the depth it goes into very every single thing. Everything they encounter in the books is alive and has a history, and I find that really cool.

I'd like to know the opinions of those of you who spent way too much time on Middle Earth and both read the series and saw the movies. I, personally, am very biased because I first watched the movies at age nine, and have marathoned them every year since, whereas I only read the books for the first time two years ago. I find the movies more enjoyable. The books are more of a walk through Tolkien's world, while we watch people in the world, and the movies are much more character-driven. Anyway, I'm open to discussion and an opinion-change!
