If anyone wants to consider interacting with the Chapel of Rain Alley, first of all, perhaps reconsider But, if you don’t, please PM me because I have it’s mechanics written down somewhere and also it’s an insanely OP location Edit: Just had a fun idea! To keep people from effectively breaking the plot by contracting with an OP Alley, perhaps the person on question would have to RP with someone else who is taking the part of the Alley in question. So if Mac for instance wants to play a character who wishes to make a lovely Faustian bargain, I would in turn play the lovely Eldritch nightmare. That way, there’s char dev involved and no one just declares “I’ve bonded Cthulhu so now I can consume the sun!”

This would be Alley 0, yes?

Are Renarin’s fits autistic meltdowns?
ZincAboutIt replied to Vin(Diesel)'s topic in Stormlight Archive
I was always under the impression that Renarin just had epilepsy, and it was cured by the Radiant bond along with his poor vision. I also just assumed that Renarin’s autism is not altered because he views it as a core portion of himself, the way Kaladin can’t get rid of his brand scars or his depression. He is too intimately intertwined with it in his own self perception.- 24 replies

Even though Lita isn’t actually OP on her own right this Era, playing a DA Dept head is definitely not as free-wheeling as playing someone who can pop in and out of the Alleys and the city, slide into places unnoticed, and generally get into trouble (read: have fun in a plot). It’s a nice exercise in role reversal but I’m not actually sure if I want to keep her as the Dept head. Or if I do, I’ll probably start from the ground up with a new character to play in all the plots with.

@Fatebreaker and @kenod thank you for allowing us to write our own shadow creatures, it’s been such fun for me and so delightfully creepy! I hate to double post here, and I can delete if needed, but should we consider starting a new day in-game sometime soon?

Vivica laughed and clapped her hands, glancing upwards at Bennington, who wiggled his tentacles in equal excitement. "Why it's the world, of course," she said, pointing at the circle. "And that is the Worldspike. The lynchpin. It's what holds it all together. All that universe, all that Connection, and if you remove it - " Vivica snapped her fingers. "Gone. Everything just pours out like frosting. Do you like frosting, Mr. Reshilore?" She grinned, taking up a new paper of her own and her black crayon. What a lovely fellow, she thought as she sketched. Dr. Victoria should bring him around more often. He's much more interesting than he looks. Vivica held up her own drawing, a single orb surrounded by eight wavy lines. "My turn!"

I'll work up an OP sheet so I can have it on deck depending on how things shake out this Era :]

People you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley
ZincAboutIt replied to Voidus's topic in The Alleyverse
Even with Tin raging like a fire within her, Lita could barely hear Laurelai's words over the pounding of her own heart. Memories bloomed in her mind, bleeding into one another like droplets of ink on wet parchment. Versions of the same event competed for her acknowledgment. Under the onslaught of disparate recollection, the world seemed to warp around her, shadows in the corners of the room trembling and stretching. Then, one of the shadows on the ceiling detached itself, dropping to the floor behind Laurleai with a heavy, wet sound. It lay quivering on the rug for a moment before it began to surge upwards, building upon itself until it formed a vaguely humanoid shape, too-long arms reaching for Laurelai just as the young woman screamed and pointed - behind Lita. Lita ducked, one hand reaching for the miniature stiletto she kept in her pocket, the other hand reaching into the fire for a handful of smoldering coals. She grunted at the sudden flare of pain, lowering her Tin and immediately beginning to siphon the heat into her brassminds. Then she turned, flinging the embers as she got her first look at the thing that had appeared behind her. Her first thought was of the legends of mistwraiths from her youth. It's body was long and sinuous like a snake, rising up from the puddle of black, glistening ooze and swaying slightly. It's skin - if it could even be called skin - looked like wet tar, though the handful of embers Lita had thrown were simply absorbed without a trace. Hell, Lita thought, her mind too busy watching the thing to donate any energy towards screaming. As the coals hit its body, the creature seemed to lock into place with a sudden, predatory keenness. The blunted end of it boiled and bubbled, one of the bubbles growing and swelling until it formed the shape of a human head. Lita watched in fascinated horror as it opened its slick mouth and unhinged its jaw. More shadow ran out of its mouth, dripping across too many teeth, as it lunged for her. Lita did scream then, throwing herself backwards and slashing across the tarry hide of the creature with her stiletto. The blade passed through almost too easily, parting the "skin" and causing some of the shadows within to begin eating their way up her arm. The corners of her vision began to darken, and in a panic, Lita plunged her hand back into her pocket, seeking something, anything -- Her fingers closed around the familiar smooth circle of the Coin, and she pulled it free, gripping it in her palm like a talisman. The shadow had coated the entirety of her right arm, an eerily cold and invasive sensation. She could almost feel it pushing its way into her skin as it worked its way towards her neck. "Help me!" Lita shouted at the Coin, even as it pulsed with a weak heat. The shadow continued to flow upward, pouring into her right ear, covering her right eye. The darkness deepened, smothering her terror, rubbing out the incongruencies in her memories. She dropped to one knee, her left hand still clutching the Coin, fighting the shadow, fighting to cling onto the memories - her memories. They were her memories... weren't they? Lita felt her cheek hit the soft surface of her rug as the shadow poured over the rest of her face, running down her throat like black blood, coating every instance of dissonance, stealing her secrets. She would have wept in anger, if the shadow had not already covered her eyes. You promised me secrets, she thought, whispering the accusation into her hand and sending it into the Coin, even as her mind forgot the reason why. You promised me power. Liar. @Fatebreaker -
Should I run Lita through the OP process?

Quick, stuff another intern into the ink cartridge!

Also a fan of after. The breaking of the Forgery could destabilize the world enough for it to be totally reasonable for there to be a new Investiture limit.
-
If there is a limited amount of world investiture now, then people contracting with eldritch creatures and developing large powers or releasing said creatures out of the Alleys could easily cause the amount of investiture to rapidly decrease. Theoretically these creatures are as or more powerful than Voidus or the Stranger. These new power users and their “contracted partners” (read: overlords) could pull the average person into the conflict by starting guilds or cults of personality. Then the average public is also in conflict with the DA.
-
Counter Intelligence would also be involved I should think
-
I think this plus a tense and fraught “Cold War” within the DA (because you’re all right, a hot DA civil war would be no fun to play in) would be an awesome plot idea for another Era. Internal unrest plus external threat = the sort of story I like
-
But be careful what you wish foooorrrr Im thinking that this would be a pretty high price type of power, not a friendly spren bond here. Like, let me devour your soul in exchange for some power rn type of thing
-
To me, a strict one to one “bond” just feels a bit too similar to Stormlight. Channeling the power or essence of a singular Alley seems more interesting to me. Unless you’re talking about some sort of compact made with a being in an alley. That could be interesting too
-
Ooh actually, do you think this kind of magic would be able to help reverse or slow Savantism?

Blinding Knife! Blinding Knife!

I must visit this place immediately

After Mac left we did put in Lita as head of DoCI, and the inquisitor at Acquisitoons was named Matthieu, but yeah idk if he’s still there after the forgery I never really gave it some thought

Egotism comes with the promotion to Dept Head, I think.
