"Small, quiet, immortality"? What did that mean? It was as if the statue was deliberately trying to confuse. It likely meant that it wanted immortality, but did it mean that it would stay small and quiet, or that it would leech from small, quiet things? Aln tried a different tactic. "If we heal you, will you stay and answer our questions?" @Gears

"As in, you'll continue to leech from plants? And people? I don't know that I can let you free if you're planning to hurt anyone." @Gears

More life? That must be referencing the plants it had been draining .. and the drain she had experienced herself. She drummed her fingers on her arm, thinking. As signified by the progress it had made before, it would be inefficient to provide it with foliage to drain, and allowing to to absorb the life of a human was out of the question. It was probable, however, that Progression would prove a worthy stand-in. She rolled up her sleeves, then paused, and switched the sphere. "If we manage to heal you, what will you do?" @Gears

Did it mean that the other power was almost dead, or that it itself was dying? It didn't seem worth a sphere to work out the specifics. It was clear that the petrified epic needed help. She replaced the sphere again. "Do you know how to return yourself to human form?"

The way the statue phrased that implied two Epics, and a fight. Clearly, the one before them had lost. "So you are an Epic as well? And another Epic attacked yu and turned you into stone?" @Invocation

Aln cocked her head. This...person didn't know what Stormlight was? They couldn't be native to the Alleyverse, then, or anywhere else Cosmere aware. And she had certainly never seen anything like this before. Awakened object seemed mostly ruled out, so it was likely the result of a variable system of Investiture. It didn't seem to fit with a Smedry Talent, so she took a gamble. As soon as Gears finished explaining Stormlight, Aln replaced the sphere. "Was an Epic involved in this?" @Gears

Aln glanced back at Dr. Gears, then pulled out another sphere and pressed it to the stone. "Would Stormlight be able to return you to a human form?" @Gears

Aln stared at the statue. A living human... Her mind was so wrapped up in the implications of this that she nearly didn't notice when Dr. Gears started talking. "Hmmm? Oh, right. That's certainly possible. Its cracks did seem to seal when I used Progression, so it's clear that Stormlight does something. It's worth a try. But..." She remembered the conversation of a moment ago. "We can't be sure that it will be willing to answer our questions if we do manage to release it from statue form." She thought for a moment. "We should at least ask it if Progression would have the theorized effect. The question of whether or not to do it could prove irrelevant." @Invocation

Aln dug in her pocket for another sphere. With all the healing she had already done that night, she was running dangerously low on stormlight. It would be best to avoid dipping into the emergency store, if possible. She looked at Dr. Gears. "We shouldn't waste any questions. I only have so much stormlight available." After a moment's thought, she placed a large broam on the statue. Hopefully it would know to speak briefly. "What are you?" @Gears

"Okay, we'll write it up, then. Maybe put it on the second page. We'll want an article on the highlights of this year's festival, too, which Rathi should be working on. But what else?" Acacia drummed her fingers on the table, and took a sip of the coffee that Whisper had prepared. Most free-kingdomers had little taste for the librarian drink, But Acacia had grown quite fond of it over the years. She had never made an effort to convert her family to it, though; the Smedrys were terrifying enough without the added benefit of caffeine. She looked around the room, and adopted her best Leavenworth voice. "Okay, I want you guys to get out in the streets and look for anything interesting that you can find. Whether it's a lost cat, a new shop, or some weird magic thing, if it's even remotely interesting I want it written down and brought back here. Whisper, you said your specialty is secrets? Well, I want some juicy ones for the first edition. I'm sure you'll all find something excellent; get to it!" @Voidus

I think generally you'd write it out as happening, but with a comment explaining that it should have gone unnoticed. People should roleplay accordingly.
-
"It's probably redundant to print the Rebirth story, then?" Acacia asked thoughtfully, "If people have already heard it?"

Read the first word of every sentence for bonus content.

"All over the city, I think. The main part was in the central square, though. Godspeed, sir, and may you return victorious!"
-
"That does sounds like a promising tactic," Acacia agreed, stroking her chin. "Not a high rate of survival, though. If you see them getting out rope, you might want to back off. There was a festival going on not too long ago; does someone want to investigate the highlights of it?"
-
Acacia laughed. "You nearly had me there, miss Whisper. It wouldn't be the craziest thing I've seen this past week. I must say, it's going to be a real pleasure working with people that have such sparkling senses of humor.Speaking of work, though, does anyone have any stories yet, or are we supposed to go out and find some?" @Gears @Arlin

I mean, if you don't like the book you're not obligated to finish it. If it's just an issue of time management, I'd say try reading it during a breakfast or something. That way you're doing something else while reading, so it doesn't feel so daunting at first, but you're still able to get into the story. Personally, I didn't love Warbreaker at the beginning. The first time I read it, I stopped after a few chapters. I only picked it up again because I was in the ER and my mom offered to read me something to distract me. Once the plot picked up, I found myself loving it a lot more. If you're halfway through, and not invested yet, though, it's possible it's just not the book for you.

Aln looked at Dr. Gears. "'Perhaps'? Are we justified in refusing aid to whatever this entity is because of the possibility that it could cause harm?" Aln wished that Torenat were here, or maybe Folorian. She had never been great at assessing the unreliability of those around her. Everything would be so much easier if people would just tell the truth. This is exactly the sort of ethically ambiguous situation that spren are rubbish with, isn't it? she asked Pel. "I mean.." the spren pulsed doubtfully. "You should at least question it more before making a decision on whether or not to help it. You're working with a very limited set of information here." You're right, of course. I'm still interested to hear what Dr. Gears has to say on the matter, though. @Gears

"Need more..." Aln frowned. Need more Stormlight was the obvious conclusion, but it wasn't really an answer to either of their questions. Unless it was trying to say that it was draining plants in an effort to gain investiture? Either way, she was hesitant to give too much power to such an unknown variable. She removed another, single sphere from a pocket and placed it against the statue. "Do you intend to use additional Investiture to cause harm?" @Gears

Acacia took a coffee cup, watching as the others began to trade words she didn't recognize. She frowned, staring at Rathi, then blurted out, "Okay, am I crazy, or are you changing colors?" @Gears
-
"Gladly," said Acacia, replying to the floating words. "Thank you." She glanced at the coffee-maker, making a mental note to tamper with it later. "So, what sort of articles do you write? I think Bell over there has the ghost stories covered."
-
So, magic. Real magic, not a Talent or Silimatics. I should have guessed. "Wow. I know what all of those words mean, so I of course require no further explanation. Do you work here too?"
-
"Now that is much more convincing. You should have led with that! This way, everyone knows exactly how they're being deceived, and can act accordingly. If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you manage that?"
