“That doesn’t mean you aren’t supposed to be happy. It’s not your fault that you accidentally scare people sometimes. You didn’t choose to be different. You didn’t pick for your parent to be the god of what most people hate, even though it’s a necessary thing. You’ve got it harder than most, but that doesn’t mean you should just give up.”
-
“Intact is different from happy. You can give up but still survive.” Jenny looked down, feeling incredibly tired. ”We don’t have to argue about this. Just, I really think you should sit down, at least for a little bit. Please.”
-
“Optimism’s pretty great.” Jenny smiled sincerely. ”I would’ve given up on everything long ago if it weren’t for optimism.”
-
“Well, I can’t always know for sure. But it would be weird for you to try and hurt us at this point. Besides, the world looks a lot better when you assume people are good.”
-
“Because I thought you were going to hurt me and my friends. I know you aren’t trying to do that now.” Jenny felt bad. She’d made Terrance scared of her. It was her fault he didn’t like her.
-
“I don’t want you to get hurt. I don’t want anyone to get hurt, generally. Why would I?” Jenny cocked her head slightly, trying to understand where Terrance was coming from. Did people normally not care about him?
-
“Terrance? I think you should probably sit down for a while. It’d be really bad if you had another seizure-thing and hit your head or something.” Maybe whatever that seizure had been had messed with Terrance’s head a bit. It was odd that he was trying to leave so suddenly.
-
-
Terrance was ok, fortunately. Jenny breathed a sigh of relief. Hopefully that didn’t happen again. Ambrosia was needed to fix it, and they didn’t have unlimited ambrosia. “You don’t need to interrupt us to do that.” Was Roy being jealous? That would make things difficult.
-
Jenny felt strangely calmer. Had she not been this calm, she would’ve found this unnerving. He was smiling now. She smiled back. He seemed better. ”You too.” ”What?” Jenny sounded rather annoyed.
-
“No, it’s ok!” Ed had been doing terribly, he’d needed her help. There was no reason for him to apologize. Jenny wanted to ask him what exactly had happened, but she wasn’t sure if that was a good idea or not. She opted to remain silent for now, keeping an arm wrapped around him.
-
“Of course.” Ed was shuddering. Was he cold? Scared, maybe? Perhaps this was from Terrance’s magic. But why would he use it on Ed? Jenny tightened her arms around him. Seeing him like this was awful, far worse than the wound burning in her side.
-
Jenny wrapped her arms around Ed, trying to comfort him. He said he was fine, said he didn’t need help. But it didn’t seem like that was the case. She didn’t know what to do at all, and she absolutely hated the feeling. ”Can I help?” She asked him this softly. Jenny knew she was repeating Lucid’s question, but felt like she should ask again just in case. Jenny didn’t notice Lucid’s thanks. Ed was the only thing she was focused on.
-
Jenny was now even more concerned. What was wrong? Why was he crawling? She leaned forwards, tried to get closer to him. She didn’t make it very far. Jenny chucked a piece of ambrosia at Lucid.
-
Jenny desperately wanted to go to Ed, make sure he was actually ok, but she couldn’t. She’d probably hurt herself more and add to the list of people needing medical attention. Lucid was over there, Lucid would help Ed and Terrance.
-
Maybe it was a magical problem. That was possibly the worse case scenario. Jenny proceeded to panic even more. ”Ed, are you ok?!”
-
“Oh, that’s not good. Um…” Jenny panicked a bit. ”I don’t think you should take my advice on this.” Basically anyone else would probably know better than she did.
-
“Oh shoot, he might’ve had some before we first saw him… um… is his pulse ok and stuff?” That was what you were supposed to do when someone had a health problem, right? Terrance wasn’t physically injured, or at least not visually. That was scary.
-
This lack of response felt weird, even for Terrance. ”Maybe give him some ambrosia just in case, Ed?” @Weaver of Lights Jenny didn’t respond for now, too concerned about Terrance.
-
“Oh, I don’t think so. Are we supposed to do that?” Jenny was being completely genuine. She glanced over at Terrance, still worried about him.
-
“Eh.” Jenny pointed at her side. ”This hurts quite a lot. Otherwise, I’m pretty happy!” She said this sincerely, not attempting to be sarcastic. That wasn’t good. ”Are you ok?” Jenny would’ve offered help, but she’d probably fall too if she attempted to stand.
-
Jenny’s smile returned, and she nodded. Ed seemed confident about this. Introducing her to his mom also probably meant he was pretty serious about their relationship, which made her happy. Jenny waved at Lucid. She hadn’t gotten to speak with him very much yet.
-
Jenny fiddled with Sword for a moment. She didn’t like hiding things from Ed. Her voice became quieter. ”I hope, if I do get to meet them, they don’t think I’m too scary or weird.” She didn’t meet Ed’s eyes, afraid that she’d offended him by implying his family might not like her.
-
Jenny smiled. ”That would be fun!” Her smiled faltered slightly as she thought more about that, however. Would they like her? Ed was nice, so that meant his family was nice too, right? Nice people didn’t like her sometimes, though. She didn’t want to make them dislike Ed by association.

indignantly. This did very little
