    "Aww, no need to thank me. You and I both know castle wages ain't all that much to live on. Just helpin' out what I can, miss." He blushed.

    "Oh." Nico shifted awkwardly, hands behind his back. "Well. I was a-thinkin' I could come with. Miss 'Bella said you'd be gettin' some ice cream, but Lord knows that stuff's expensive. I'm willin' to pitch in if you'll let me. And, o'course, Bella was wantin' me to come, ain't that right?"

    I cannot read RoW.

    I’ve tried to do it so many times now. I’ve even gotten 80 pages into it. But I literally cannot read it. I feel like the words are seen by my eyes but not understood by my head. For some reason my mind just refuses to consume it. I think at this point I don’t even want to read it. I have absolutely no desire to do so. The pressure is put on me by so many people and I’m finding the only reason why I would want to read this book is to please them. Every time I pick the book up, I hate myself for not liking it. It’s just unhealthy and not okay. So…. This is me giving up trying to read it and hurt myself doing so.

      Well what I did with Harry Potter 4 was, if I was having trouble paying attention to a particular paragraph, I'd just skip it. Usually you won't miss a lot if you just skip one paragraph. Alternatively, you could get it as an audiobook, and then even if your mind drifts elsewhere and you miss something, it's effectively the same as what I previously suggested. Plus, you can do something else at the same time, like play minecraft or drive, or take a nap or whatever.

      Or, yeah, drop it. It's totally up to you.

      (And I agree about Shallan. I liked her in WoR, but in the other books she's just boring or annoying. I like her relationship with Hoid though. Then again, I like Hoid's relationship with everyone.)

    My stars, SO much has changed about this story recently... For one thing there are now two books instead of three. The organization of the whole thing is drastically different. And for another, well... The amount of progress I've made recently is pretty staggering. Not progress in writing, but in organization. Almost every chapter is lined out and I've estimated that each book will be in the 600-800 page range. ETERNAL (very much a steampunk novel) Part I: Dreams Part II: Alone Part III: Crew Part IV: Memories FALLEN (more dystopian genre) Part I: Emperor Part II: Truce Part III: Weary Part IV: Reborn I've also made a discord server to discuss the books, it has links to some of the experimental writing (although I'll admit that writing isn't as good and a good chunk of it is outdated) and I'm kinda giving updates on my progress.     With a small chuckle that to Caden might have sounded slightly evil, Riva walked back to her new room in the darkness. She hadn't eaten much, but her belly was full now and her thirst satisfied. When she sat down on the bed, she was struck once again by just how soft it was and suddenly her eyelids felt heavy, the warm covers too enticing to resist curling into a ball. It was perhaps 1:30 in the morning; a little early to be sleeping for Riva, but not an unreasonable bedtime by any means. She sighed, pulling the heavy blanket tighter around her, fully aware of how tiny she was on the massive bed. Her bony body sank into the mattress a few inches and it seemed to Riva as though she was being held. Warmth. Comfort. Security. All three flowed within her like never before. Who knew? Maybe this whole marriage thing wouldn't be all bad.

    Riva walked out, bumping him with her hip again on her way and flashing him a small smile.

    Riva was... disappointed by the response. Stay out of his way? Stars, she was out of everyone's way in the basement, separated from everyone but those on death row; criminals, thieves, assassins, the scum of the earth. She wanted something different from that, damn it. She held up a hand, starting after Caden. "I-" But she trailed off. What was there to say? "Good night, I suppose."

    Riva scoffed. “Oh please. Everyone in this stars-cursed kingdom is scared to death of me. They’d do whatever I say for fear that I’d torture them. You and the king are the only ones willing to butt against me and quite honestly, it’s a breath of fresh air.” Saying it out loud was….. refreshing. She stood motionless for a moment. This was her chance, wasn’t it? To be treated like an actual human instead of a demon. “You don’t have to love me - I don’t expect you to - but….. I don’t think I want to live with a man who wants to kill me.” Riva’s hands shook. Stars why was she opening up here in the kitchen in the middle of the night wearing her chemise to a man who’d outright said he thought she was evil???

    “Aww. I’s sorry, miss. That’s awful. My own parents is dead too.” “Good!” Nico pulled her off his shoulders and tickled her.

    "Well, o'course I can, miss! How many does ya need?" With a grin, Riva ran after him and took his arm, bumping him playfully with her hip. "Oh, c'mon! Maybe this marriage isn't for nothing after all!"

    "Oh, I'm not talking about retreat. I'm talking about a man who isn't willing to do his own dirty work or look the prisoner on death row in the eyes." She sighed, then smiled. "Wow. We just had an actual conversation, didn't we?"
