  1. Sophie shook her head. "I wouldn't do that," she promised. "You'll be okay."
  2. Sophie brightened a little bit. "Oh, you will! Oh!" Astral rolled her eyes, then sneezed again.

    Sophie & Aqua

From the album: The Longest Thread (Misadventures)

These two are going to be the bestest of friends, aren't they? Xinoehp, you don't want to miss out on this lovely girl.
  4. Astral sneezed suddenly. She grimaced, wrinkling her nose. "Ugh. Forgiveness."
  5. "I care about you," Sophie offered weakly. "You're my friend. You're not always nice, but you're my friend. And I forgive you."
  6. "We really need your help," Sophie said, hair limp around her bare shoulders. "Xino needs your help. Real bad." She wiped her eyes. "You're the only one who can help him."
  7. Sophie covered her ears with her hands, though she knew it wouldn't do anything. It was more instinctual than anything. "Go away..." she muttered. But, wait a second. Aqua was leaving? What was going on out there? She turned around and was horrified to see Astral trying to haul the Seon back. Her face fell. Oh, Author, she hadn't meant for it to go this far. She didn't want anyone to get hurt. But... Well, why else had she let Astral free? Her heart broke a little bit and she wilted, gravely disappointed in herself. Sophie, you really are no hero. Still, she couldn't let this go on. She let down her forcefield. "Astral, stop it!" she said. She felt weaker than she had before, movements lethlargic. "Let her go. I'll get Aqua to help, just let her go. Please." And, to her surprise, Astral did stop. A head formed out of the sludge, with hair that melted back into the goo. "Fine." Astral formed back into her body the rest of the way. Sophie looked up at Aqua and sniffed. "Please don't," she said miserably. "I'm sorry. I'm really sorry."
  8. Not one to be thrown off so easily, Astral, the pile of black goo, reached as far upward as she could, desperate to envelop the Seon and trap her. Sophie sat quietly, picking at the grass. She'd failed, hadn't she? Despite everything, she'd failed to save him. She couldn't cry anymore. She just couldn't.
  9. Astral melted to the ground and, with blinding speed, grabbed Aqua with her own sticky, tar-like substance.
  10. Sophie realized suddenly that she hadn't told Astral just why she'd released her. Aqua can save Xinoehp, but she won't, she thought to her sister. She didn't say anything more. Astral perked up, pleased that her bluff had worked and that she had been correct. She was also utterly livid. "You really are lying, aren't you?" she giggled. "Well, then. I've never gotten to torture a Seon before. This should be good fun."
  11. Star moved to shield Pheo's mind, but as she did so, she got a glimpse of his emotions. She wilted slightly. "Oh, Pheo. Why don't you go back? Xino and I can fix this."
  12. "I can shield our minds," Star said. "Telepathy is nice that way."
  13. Astral smiled sinisterly. "You're lying," she declared. She cracked her knuckles.
  14. Astral raised an eyebrow with a masterful look of spite. Her sword disintegrated. "Well, then," she cooed, putting her hands on her hips. "What are we doing to save him then?"
  15. Feeling annoyed and angry, Sophie decided to let down Astral's confinements. Let Aqua deal with it when the Queen of Shadows found out that they'd failed and Xino was dying and maybe even dead already. Stupid Seon. The transparent blue dome over Astral's body faded away. Finally, she thought. She looked about. No withergeists. That was good. Maybe they'd actually won without her. She sat up, stretching, and cracked her neck with a loud snap. As she moved to crack it the other way, however, her eyes fell upon Xino's body. Disbelief came first. And then, her wrath came flooding through her body. "You let him DIE!!?" she yelled. She got to her feet, surveying the scene. Her sister had locked herself in a forcefield and seemed to be crying. Well, no wonder, this was awful. Also there was that miserable Seon and a mime. She dusted herself off, marching toward them. "You idiots!" she accused. A wicked blade coalesced in her hands.
  16. "Yes, yes," the Destroyer said. She got up and walked out, sitting on the opposite side of the hallway with her back against the wall. She was mildly saddened to be sent away, but she was more distressed at her inability to help. Could she do anything right?
