That's lame. I know when you try to register it asks for like an account name and username or something, and these cant be the same otherwise it wont let you register, but from that message it sounds like they probably are region blocking you. -

Bastion is a great game. I really liked the narrative style. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F90u1Fa7mzM&feature=related and if that's not bad enough, i believe i have found exclusive footage of the event itself.

i beg to differ. It would be nowhere near as entertaining.

im pretty sure you can, you just need to click the "show edited by" checkbox does this, doesn't it? i havent tested but i thought i did. I will go ahead and try with this post and see if it gets the results youre looking for.... test Well, it shows an "edited by" line that's pretty visible, but it doesn't change the post info on the main index....

I think what he was trying to say is that perhaps someone who is from another planet cant *BENEFIT* from a spike (not have a spike be used to tear out their powers while killing them). That is, if someone from elantris (Sel) wanted to have super inquisitor metal vision, they would have to ingest atium before shoving those spikes into their eye-sockets, otherwise it's just a one-way trip to blinding (literally) pain avenue. I could see it working that way.

This. She was going to get the soulcaster to *USE*, because that's what her father did (it was his "secret" so to speak) to "find" the marble they dug up and sold.

In response to SOPA, sega recommends a hard reset. they even made a video about hard resets!

I dont know, i would say ruin, on its own, would very much be considered evil. Destruction for the sake of destruction seems like a pretty evil concept. Now when it's tempered by other intentions, it's very much so a good thing. After all, ruin's intent was to wipe out everything, not wipe it out, let it regrow, repeat. Without some sort of checks and balances system, I would very much so side with ruin being evil. Now, as far as Hoid, I'm pretty sure Hoid isn't evil, but his intentions and aspirations aren't well understood. As far as why he's so secretive, that's because he basically KNOWS all the answers in the universe. That's not something he wants everyone to be able to puzzle out, so he has to keep to himself. To Hoid, he's basically a nuclear engineer who knows how to develop the hydrogen bomb, out visiting primitive african tribes for various reasons to effect his plans. He very much so doesn't want the knowledge has to slip into their hands, because that could be very bad.

so, initially, when i moved this topic, i couldn't think of any books that fit your description. However, recently i realized i do know a couple that may fit the bill. They're both two parts of the whole story, its The Eyes of the Overworld and Cugel's Saga by Jack Vance. They're both about the same man, Cugel, and from the beginning to the end, the guy pretty much remains a dick, but at time shows some signs of empathy and compassion, and pretty much always ends up throwing it out the windows for his own personal gain. He very much, in my opinion, fits the bill for number 2, and perhaps at times 1 (though he's never really "childlike" or anything). He doesn't really have any "powers" per say, he's pretty much a standard guy who happens to be rather lucky, charismatic, and skillful. However, there are a lot of various magical/supernatural things over the course of the entire book(s). There's a pretty good description on "the eyes of the overworld" about his character. Theyre both a couple of older (70's or so) books, and they're part of Vance's "Dying earth" series. You can get them in the full collection called "Tales of a dying earth". I'm not sure if you can get them individually anymore. The other books in the series are unrelated (the first one is a collection of short stories, basically, and the last one is an unrelated tale)

yeah, 3.x was far from perfect, but at the same time, i personally feel it was a better system than 4e (this doesn't mean the system wasn't broken. It totally was). I feel this way because the system had so much more flexibility built into it compared to 4e. The subtraction of actual multiclassing was something that never should have happened, in my opinion. Also, i dont much care for the fact that every class' mechanic (the whole power system, essentially) is basically the same. It makes it feel too much like "generic class that fits role A, generic class that fits role B, generic class that fits role C, etc." I was hoping that some of the stuff we saw near the end of 3.x was going to be more of how 4e was structured (Magic of Incarnum, Tome of battle, Tome of magic, etc.). Each class felt unique and new, and were balanced pretty well (granted, they didnt have a billion splat books with god knows how many new options). However, I do like a lot of the rules that streamline the game in and of itself (a generic "save" mechanic, traditional saves converted to "defenses", some fairly rigid definitions about various things, etc.)

personally, it pleases me I beg to differ. Edit: also - Welcome to the boards! I'm eero, the global mod! Hobbies include lurking the boards, trolling chaos, and generally stirring up trouble (I'm a good mod!)

Moved to the "other books" section because it seems a bit more appropriate there

Well, on the bright side, Monte Cook (one of the guys pivotal to making 3rd ed) is supposedly working with them on it, so hopefully it will pull away from 4E and be more of a "return its roots" sort of thing. Personally, i dont much care for 4E (which is why i prefer pathfinder over 4E), though wizards may be doing it right with this edition, since they plan on heavily using gamer feedback and a long open play testing period.

So it's only been a few short years since D&D 4.0 was released, and it looks like wizard's of the cost is all ready working on a new version. For this version, they apparently acknowledged some of the flack and criticisms and the fact that their sales have been waning, and are taking input from players to find out what they want for a new version of D&D

Heh, so votings over, and I got overall pretty poor scores (expected, since by my own admission it was sort of rushed and not very polished and/or creative), however, checking my entry, I just noticed that it got commented on by notch (creator of minecraft, who usually participates in ludum dare). Awesome.
