So....who wants to play some D&D?
Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Prestige classes (PrC for short) are basically "special" classes you have to qualify for later. You are correct, you can not start as them, but you can take any and all prestige classes you qualify for. They vary in power and usefulness, and they all usually have a certain flavor to them. "simple" weapons are just a weapon category. There's a few categories of weapons, but most classes just need to be concerned with simple, martial and exotiic. There's no real definition on what fits into each category, but essentially, simple weapons will usually be lower damage, less critical abiltiies, etc., martial will be a step up from them. Most exotic weapons aren't worth getting because they cost a feat to take. Pretty much is just breaks down to what weapons you can use. if it says you can use all simple/martial weapons, then everything in those lists are available weapons for you to use. If you aren't proficient, you take a -4 non proficiency penalty. All manufactured weapons fit into these three categories. Now there are two other categories, but generally you won't have to worry about them. There's unarmed and natural weapons. unarmed is pretty much a non-option unless you're a monk, and natural weapons require you to have some kind of claws/spikes/bite/tail/etc attack (basically think anything that's an attack that's from a natural part of y our anatomy that's intended for attacking things) The stat system like your base stats? str, dex, con, int, wis, and cha? Basically, you have an ability score ranging from 1-whatever, and you have an ability modifier. You modifier is derived from the base score. Almost everything in the system will use your modifier, so the base score is mostly just numerical/informational. To get your modifier, you take your (base score - 10)/2. So for example, if you have 14 str, your modifier is (14-10) = 4/2 = 2. So your modifier is +2. Pretty well any time something tells you to add your strength modifier, you would add +2. Almost all rolls in the system rely on a D20 (damage is an exception), so it's usually 1D20+ all applicable modifiers Edit: ninja'd -

well, rogue is pretty much the default sneak-stabby type, and there's an assassin prestige class (which is admittedly not really the BEST class in terms of strong it is, but with the spell compendium get a few nice spells that benefits sneaking and stabbing) beguiler is also another option that would fit the bill, and is much more magical in nature. -
Snapped as if from a daze, the handful of men staring at your decidedly odd assets turn back and bury their faces in their mugs. You can barely catch a few murmurs of phrases along the lines of "damned foreigner", "tribal markings", and "ugly bauble". Despite their outwardly rude demeanor, you understand that their brashness stems from the almost palpable atmosphere of tension that has been building almost uniformly across the city. As you sit, nursing your slowly draining ale, a busy serving woman bustles by with a platter of full mugs and sloppily places a fresh mug you didn't order down on your table. With nary a word in her haste, and without seemingly realizing her error, she turns to move on to her next destination table, fresh mugs in tow.

The posting went out near a fortnight ago. Word spread across village and town as if carried on wings. The King of Bannor was seeking able bodied adventurers. Rumors surged about the riches to be paid, the magic items to be plundered. Every pair of lips had a different tale of the piles of treasure to be had, but few actually had any details behind the deed itself. Clearing an army of orcs from the caves, some tales told. Others told of an ancient dragon come to wake and ravage the land from it's lair deep within the musty catacomb. Still others talk of a fearsome and terrible Lich contained within the depths of an old cavern come to wage war on the living. One thing is certain, every tale includes the same destination. A deep cavern, unearthed due to recent geological activity, has shown itself to the north, in the mountains of Perdoth. The rumors also agree, none to date who have left with intentions of entering the cave have yet returned. By this time, it's common knowledge that prior to this call, the king, King Veldspar III, sent out a handful of small parties to explore this new region. After losing near fifty men to the cursed catacombs in question he put out a call for bold adventurers to plumb its inky depths for the safety of his kingdom. The supposed rewards ranged anywhere from extravagant to legendary. Everyone from the lowly pauper with a twinkle of gold in his eyes to seasoned adventurers have been rumored to left for the devilish depths. In the two weeks since the news broke, the city has exploded with travelers making their way to try their hand at the cave. Every inn, every tavern, even the stable yards all bustle with bold adventurers ready to take on the loathsome grotto. Some show up to the city all ready formed into bands, others show up solitary, hoping to find companionship within the city walls. Still other overzealous fools have made way for the cave solitary. Regardless of the methods and plans laid by each participant, one thing is true. None have missed a chance to show up in town to boldly announce their intentions, if only to show off to the common folk. Maps to the cave can be found around the city like confetti, each with their own nuances and quirks, but practically everyone of them puts the cavern in the same spot. Despite the frantic bustle of the city, one fact rings true. This location is only the starting point of something greater. Merely the beginning of a truly epic thread in history that you are about to embark on.... [/intro] Ok, explanation time. This is basically a communal in-character RP thread for people to meet and greet with party members. It's basically just an area for you to gather around the tavern and get to know each other, have a friendly drink or two, etc. Note that the timing for parties leaving the city doesn't have to coincide with the timeline for when they're actually in the dungeon. That is, the first party that forms here doesn't have to be the "first" that left and started digging through the dungeon. As far as encounters in the dungeon goes, i'm not likely going to keep track of every single one, so most normal encounters will probably repeat for each party (though "boss" encounters may remain cleared). This is just handwaving to keep the book keeping down on my end. Also, just because individual parties leave here at significantly different times doesn't mean they can't meet up within the dungeon. Pretty much if two parties coincide in the same area at the same time, i will have them meet and converse, and maybe even "trade" party members (or if the two parties are small enough, either through initially small size or by players dying and deciding to quit, merge). Keep in mind that I would like to keep parties sized from 4-6 groups. Feel free to have your parties interact within the town before they leave, too. Maybe form some kind of friendly competition/rivalry with them or something (or outright villainous opposition). Also note that your character doesn't exactly have to be done to participate in this thread (just need to have a rough idea of abilities and personality), so long as you are ready by the time you head out to the dungeon. I want to try to keep rolling/stats/skills/etc. out of this topic as much as possible and just let it flow free form for this thread, since it's a way to introduce your character in the manner that you want, not the manner that the dice say. I will still take care of any NPC interactions you don't wish to directly control (or don't know the answers for) for the sake of what your character does. Once the party is formed up and ready to head to the dungeon, we will go ahead and split your group out into their own thread. It might also help if you guys decide on a party name once formed so it's a bit more clear who is who. Also, feel free to make up the locations and such within the city itself. I don't have it mapped out, so it will pretty well form to whatever you need to introduce your character. That said, have at it, and happy dungeoneering!

Shining south is a campaign setting that's part of forgotten realms. There's a few books in the "series" of ones like these, like silver marches and a few others I can't think of off hand.

Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
nah, the guy on that topic specifically said he doesnt play with alignment restrictions, but he also points out that a monk who changes alignment doesn't lose anything, they can just never gain anymore monk levels. (which is a valid point) Edit: specifically, this is what he calls out to: -

Monk is perfectly playable. "Good" depends on how well you build and play it Actually, for everyone meeting, i was going to make a generic in-character "meet up" thread that people could RP their meeting out and form parties before entering the dungeon, i was just going to wait until we had at least 4 characters to get it started. As far as character history, that's yours to decide. Edit: also, there's many guides online to character building, so if you're unsure about monk, you could always look up discussions on it like this. Threads like that are all over the internet and the break down the class, it's ups and downs, and various options that come off as good (and help to avoid pitfalls that can end up making your character subpar) -
Protruding wart, as the former is quite correctable (hello dermatologists!) and the latter is probably some form of mental defect. Would you rather be unable to ready brandon's books for life but have free reign of reading, or be able to read brandon's books, but the only other books you could read would be stephenie meyer books?

so long as you aren't all like "hey, guys, let's go left, right, straight and then left to get the l33t treasures and avoid traps/encounters A and B" i think you should be good -
sculpt spell is from complete arcane. Not sure about selective spell, i haven't heard of that one. edit: also, here's the official WoTC feat index. It includes notation of where the feat was printed, i'll add it to the resources page. Also, looks like selective spell is from "Shining South"

Obviously, they were forged from the same iron/mithral/adamantine deposit Or you could go with you being a warforged and her being a squishy-type and you could be the adopted brother who doesn't realize he's adopted! (would certainly result in some interesting RP situations) Also, i have access to practically every 3.5 book in PDF if you're looking one in particular -
yeah, there's no way to be healed by BOTH positive and negative enery, its basically one or the other

1. Since it's starting at level 1, you would either need to use the drow savage progression or use the lesser drown printed in players guide to faerun, but other than that, yes, theyre allowed. 2. Monks and rangers are core base classes, so yes. The bladesinger is a PrC, so you can become one, you just can't start as one (i think the latest printing of it was in complete warrior) 3. same with drow, they have LA, but there's a lesser version in PGtF (i dont know of any savage progression, but we could probably come up with one) 4. I'm not familiar with this race off hand, but i guess it depends on if it has LA/HD or not. 5. Right here 6. I'm not aware of any lesser or savage progression for these two races, though we could probably devise one. 7. Whenever (no real timetable) / Here on the forums (play by post) / Using topics to post actions, and using the dice roller in the resources thread to share your dice rolls. -

This is my personal favorite 3.5 SRD site. And it's not too late, we haven't even started yet (though it still wouldnt be too late, i could come up with a reason to introduce a new character during gameplay). Feel free to hit me up with any questions! -

That's fine. Let's see, what is our exact count of players, anyways? We got: Emeralis Thor Satsuoni Kchan Kuri Doc and is your friend still planning on playing emeralis? Also, did i miss anyone? Because by my count we should have 7 now, i think. -

So we got two clerics (one battle, one healer) and a wizard so far, how's everyone else's characters coming along? Any stumbling blocks, questions, or anything needed? One more character and we can get the first party started (unless the people currently done are OK with a party of 3 and no trapper) -
yeah, seriously. That's probably like 9,000 pages of book.

Umieri Bast Deneith of House Deneith

yeah, that one is easily a better option.... Whenever i did RSoP i usually did the feat, but this is way better -

Eerongal replied to Emeralis00's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
nah, its exactly what i was thinking. I looked it up and was chatting with emeralis over steam. It lets you spend a turning attempt to cast from a domain. Each time you take it you select a domain. though, i was entirely unaware of the PHB2 option....if it works like that, then it's basically this feat without the turning cost, which is entirely a better option in the first place, and it's basically "free" (that is, doesnt take a feat slot)..... -

Eerongal replied to Emeralis00's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
It's a feat (in complete divine also). It allows you to spend a turning attempt to spontaneously cast spells from a chosen domain as you do cure spells. The reason you need this is because to qualify it HAS to be cure spells from your domain, not just spontaneously cast cure spells like you normally do.
