i'm around (as in available on the forums), but i wont be home until later tonight (i work evenings) at which point i can do some stuff with drop box, and simply give you a web link edit: feel free to butt in whenever and however you wish. There's no real rules being used in this particular instance. Also, you start with max HP for your hit Die (so if its a D6, you start with 6, D8 start with 8, etc.) plus your constitution modifier (so if you have an 18 con, an extra + 4) -
personally, i've always thought about it like this: "Meh, i'll find out when i die. Until then, i have a life to live to the fullest capacity I can, regardless of which philosophy has it right"

normally, at level 1, you have a pool of starting gold that you can spend on equipment based on your class. For this particular game, I overrode those rules and said everyone starts with 100 GP (this is significantly more than any class generally starts with). you can find equipment and gear to peruse through right here. Obviously, you'll want to get weapons/armors that you can afford, but there's also mundane adventure gear that's always handy, such as chalk, grappling hooks, lantern, rope, torches, crowbars, etc. (everyone starts with a free set of clothes, per the standard rules). Purchase whatever you think you can make use of, and pocket the rest. -
probably a tailcoat, then. edit: why the heck do i know so much about formal wear?

I don't honestly see it as being a stretch to believe when you consider the whole "why does bad things happen to good people and vice versa?" thing, though as far as why he personally believes that way I couldn't say. AFAIK a tux usually only has 1 button (right around the gut) where as a suit usually has a few (like 2-4 buttons) but other than that it's just slightly cosmetic differences paired with wearing different stuff WITH it (for example, tie with suit, bowtie with tux, different undershirts, cumberbund with tux, waistcoat with suit, etc.)

Yeah, and that's actually how most theists actually thing/believe. The problem is that there's a vocal minority that drives a lot of public perception. This is true of pretty much all groups. The majority of atheists aren't people who are going to condemn you for believing in a god, ridicule your beliefs, and try to convince you otherwise about whatever god you believe in. By the same token, the majority christians aren't the type of people who are going to attend a huge "abortion is murder" protest and try to impose their personal views on god and how he dictates living your life on somebody else. However, this unfortunately drives public perception and stereotypes.

Huh. So i'm surprised by how many are atheist here and open about it. It's been my experience that those who are usually tend to hide/cover it up, like it's a thing of shame (which it sort of is in america at least, sadly) So you would actually be agnostic-atheist, as opposed to agnostic-theist (someone who says "i believe there is a god, but we can't know for sure"). If you were purely agnostic, you would basically say that it's a 50-50 chance for there to be a god or not. As for myself, i agree with the following quote from richard dawkins "I am agnostic only to the extent that I am agnostic about fairies at the bottom of the garden." (Read: I'm basically atheist, but i won't say for 100% there isn't a god, it just isn't very likely). Which is actually something i don't admit to people terribly often, not out of shame (like mentioned above) but because it usually causes more trouble/argument than it's worth. I believe religion should be something you don't shove down anyone's throat, even if that "religion" is lack of one. Which is honestly something a good portion of theists should learn to abide by

well, then, i would have to say i unfortunately can't really help you there. I personally have never really watched many "magical girl"-type series. I've always found them corny in a "power rangers for girls" kind of way.

Never heard of it. what's it about and what are the qualities you're looking for? Just because i've never seen that particular anime doesn't mean i might not know one similar.

Right, but the thing is, e-books and physical books are essentially selling on two different business models. E-books sell on like a 70/30 split (i think) on a price set by the publishers. This didn't used to be the case (back when amazon sold all e-books at like 9.99), but it is what it is now However, physical books are sold on a wholesale method that standard physical items are sold on. Amazon bought X copies of books at Y price, and they have their own discretion on HOW to sell those books, and they have a pretty clear operating cost of "go below this and we lose money". So if they have a huge overstock of some particular book, it does them no good to have these books sitting around cluttering up space in a warehouse somewhere. Those books are taking up space that something that's moving faster could be occupying. As a result, they're willing to lower the price in order to encourage movement in a particular product. Then there's also the fact that amazon may be using physical books as a loss leader in some instances, something they can't do (and likely wouldn't want to) with an e-book Because of this fixed price for digital vs standard sales model of physical goods, it ends up resulting in things like this.

so are people still interested in this? because nothings really been going on in here for a while. If not, its cool, i can just make up NPCs for the two who are so far participating People need help with characters or anything? -
Yeah, the paperbacks appear to be on sale (probably because of overstock, thats usually why things are on sale on amazon, they want to get rid of them). That being said, i personally don't agree with e-book pricing schemes because they are usually so close in price point to the paper backs that it's more value for you to get a physical copy. Though, i personally only get hardback books anyways when possible....

That's good to know. Like i said, the only thing I'm concerned with relying on any site other than our own for anything is the long term accessibility or the ability to port it out in case it's ever needed. Though, i suppose, push comes to shove, it looks like it would probably be pretty easy to write a script that hashes through all the tags and extracts all the entries

That's honestly my only concern with us sort of "outsourcing" it is that when WoT inevitably dries up that it just kinda gets forgotten and we lose what advantages it brings to the table. I suppose it's something we'll deal with when it comes up. Other than that, it's pretty awesome. Edit: though, do we (anyone here, such as you or chaos) have at least read-only access directly to the DB? Because if so, it's easy enough for us to extract the data when and if it's needed later on.
-
So is this only temporary until brandon is done with WoT, or is a permanent thing and will keep track of brandon's signings forever, even after WoT? Because if it's temporary, then we probably want to do something for ourselves still....

Starry Dragon Seynir & Umieri With a child-like grin, the drunk snatches greedily at the proffered mug. "Now that's the sort of hospitality I would expect from fine folks such as yerselves!" he exclaims happily before taking a deep drink. Wiping his moistened mouth with the back of his hand, he lets out a long, relieved sigh. "Now, if you wouldn't mind, my friend, I should like if we could get down to business," he begins motioning towards Umieri with the roll of parchment. "As I was sayin', this map is quite rare. I was going to say I wouldn't be able to let it go for less than 150 gold, but for you, my new friend, i would be willing to let it go for....oh, let's say 100 gold." Setting back comfortably in the chair, he takes another swig from the mug.

Starry Dragon Seynir & Umieri Amid your conversation, the two of you failed to notice as a man comes stumbling up to your table. Just as Umieri finishes his last sentence the man blurts out coarsely "Well, is that right? You gents headin' to the dungeon?" The pungent reek of alcohol on his breath washes over you as he pulls out a chair and sets himself down. "If that be the case, then have I the deal for you, mates!" gracelessly, he pulls open his unwashed tunic and pulls out a small, dirty piece of rolled parchment. Setting it on the table, he keeps his hand tightly curled around it. "What I gots here happens to be a map of the whole bleedin' dungeon!" He grins a wolfish grin, "If you plan on headin' out there, you don't wanna leave without one o' these. This happens to be the only one in existence!" Pulling the paper back towards him, the man puts a long, bony finger aside his hooked nose, "Now, obviously, bein' so rare and all, I can't let something like this go for cheap...." Tongue lashing out across his dry, cracked lips, he watches hungrily for your reactions.

So....who wants to play some D&D?
Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Well, it doesn't HAVE to be plane hopping. You could easily make up some history about a plane hopper from the past who came over and started small cult to whatever deity you subscribe to, or found oblique references in some ancient tome you found and took to heart, pretty well whatever you want. And yes, you will still get powers granted from a deity in this world (that's normally not technically true, i believe, but at the same time its hardly fair if i cut you off from your power after explicitly allowing your desired god) Also, D&D 4E is quite different from all previous versions. Some of the base rules are the same, but it simplified the rules by far. For example, all classes are pretty much different. There's no such thing as at-will, encounter, or daily powers that every class gets. Classes are pretty much a list of abilities you get and at what level. Spells work completely different, too. That said, though, a lot of the underlying base rules are roughly similar (though not exactly the same). So much so that you can probably pick up how it works fairly easily if you understand 4E rules. -

What he said. Basically, for the setting, it's the assumed default (3.5) greyhawk setting, but all the places i'm using are made up and have no real correlation to the setting and is relatively setting neutral. I'm allowing all official WOtC books, including campaign settings. When you write your backstory, you will probably want to give reasons for your following of other campaign things, like emeralis is victim of a plane hopping incident that let him in a different universe from his own. Character creation is 32 point buy. In the FAQ it also has a link to a write up i found online where someone explains how to make a D&D character in 3.5 rules, in case you need that to go off of. Other than that, feel free to ask questions.
