  1. That may be true, but is a separate issue. Humans clearly now either had anti-Light or they didn't. Nothing Odium did could change that any more. But no, he hastened the return of a Fused to have a weapon tested. A few days really would make no difference at all if that would have been about confirmation of an enemy's breakthrough. The humans have very little Raysium. They are not going to reequip all their armies with anti-Voidlight weapons within days. So he needed to have this weapon tested now for use by his own side. That means he needs it very soon it was impossible to test up to now Hence Odium did not know about anti-Light and this weapon is to be used very soon and is important enough to go to the CEO-level. This dagger is to be used either in the duell of champions or in a scheme to avert the duell. Odium had to know now, whether it worked, so that there would have been time for a plan B.
  2. I am afraid the anti-Light itself surprised him. Odium himself hurried to get a test subject for the anti-Voidlight weapon. If Odium knew what anti-Voidlight is, there would be no need to scramble to test a weapon based on it. At most he would replicate Navani's and Raboniel's method and recognize the anti-Light for what it is.
  3. I think you raised a point inadvertedly. Why do we assume that always a single person waded into the Well of Ascension? What would happen if a group did it?
  4. I hope I got the title so that it is no spoiler. If not, somebody please speak up There have been discussions about Gavilar becoming Odium's champion. There is a fundamental problem with that, however. Gavilar knew about anti-Light. I can see no way that Gavilar would serve Odium without Odium learning about anti-Light. And we must conclude from the hasty weapons test we saw at the end of Rhythm of War that antilight was news to Odium himself, not just his troops. I am afraid that is an unsurmountable obstacle. Does that mean that Gavilar went to the Beyond? Now that is another question. Gavilar wanted to become immortal and presumably not by joining Odium into servitude as a Fused. We do not know how far his preparations had gone. It may have worked. Now, we need to return to another topic. Shallan must have seen portraits of Gavilar. But would she recognize him bald and aged? And Cognitive Shadows have a considerable power to change their physical appearance in Shadesmar. Is Sixteen Gavilar in disguise, who fled because he must not be recognized by his nephew's wife for his plans to work?
  5. He liked the result, not the thing. He is like a farmer. They don't like going out in the rain any more than average, but it makes the plants on the field grow, so they welcome it. Well, no. It is the force that drives you to radical decisions. Passion will also make it impossible to do things that rationally speaking would be advantagous. It just just that radical decisions lead to spectacular deeds we notice more. Which is a necessary component of live. You cannot truly love something or somebody unless you hate their enemies. Unless you wish to deny conflict in general. Then we are back to Preservation.
  6. That is the deal she made in Oathbringer. And in Rhythm of War we learn that she left.
  7. Well, Brandon only recently decided who Thaidakar is, but still that Thaidakar existed was clear from the very beginning. Is it important to the history, which Shard aided Odium? Not a lot. Will it matter? Quite possibly so.
  8. There have been speculations about Cognitive Shadows becoming Odium's champions. The next step is to wonder who is antagonistic to Dalinar Kholin, the Knights Radiant or mankind is good at fighting died in a highly Invested state And that leaves us with a candidate, who really hates Dalinar, was a soldier for decades and died with his whole matabolism being transformed to run on Investiture and using Surges like there was no tomorrow (well, there wasn't): Meridas Amaram
  9. People make coffee out of beans that have passed the digestive tract of a civet cat. So I am unsure whether I can agree.
  10. I'd say that Harmony's letter has answered that: Mercy Honor is a more complex concept than Ruin or Preservation, so it has no direct oposite, but in a certain sense Mercy comes close.
  11. Technically she has already served a purpose. Te Spren now know how to make awakened blades. That will change the balance of power in Shadesmar and has increased the importance of Nalthis by a lot. And I am sure the Spren are now starting a research project on how to awaken with Stormlight.
  12. The problem is Nazriloff. His remark about the proper rituals would make no sense. Secondly, Silence in the Forests of Hell would have to take place centuries before Elantris. Where are the Threnodites? By the time of Secret History the Ire needs to guard the Threnodite border. Yet by the time of Era 2, which takes place over three centuries later, Threnody has vanished from the political board. Yes. The Evil is a consequence of Ambition's demise. But not an immediate consequence.
  13. As it does not change its angle for different observers, the likeliest explanation is that it is no real object. But we know very littl about it and the anti-shadows it casts.
  14. And "Voids". That we have seen almost no Voidbinding doesn't make it less fundamental. We know little detail about the destruction of Ashyn, save that it involved the use of Connection. We are turning in cycles. No it wouldn't The Fused have red eyes Renarin (without red eyes) Well, this our problem. We cannot conclude back to Odium from our ignorance. Because the original limit was the 9 and Odium really clashes with Honor presumably. Or Odium cannot grant Adhesion to people he has made immortal.
  15. Not really and I am sorry for not answering sooner. Hoid has started a coalition for essentially an interplanetary war. If he were to call that off now, he would risk never to be able to reform it. Hoid surely knows the Cosmere's version of the tale of the boy who called wolf. And there is always the stark eventuality the the Shard will overcome the vessel. In addition Hoid has no idea that Rayse is dead. He will will still act as if he were alive. But a body is not the only mystery around Kelsier. The other, greater mystery (for the Fused show that you can just snatch a body) is that Kelsier is now a feruchemist, as the coin Waxillium got proved. Now, it is possible that both mysteries are unconnected. But that is hardly elegant. The obvious explanation for him becoming a feruchemist would be to snatch a feruchemist's body. But then why does he look like himself? Well, there were descendants of feruchemists roaming Scadrial at the time of the Catacendre. The Mistwraiths are descandants of feruchemists. If you undo what Rashek did to them, you should get a feruchemist body. So do you think the Trellian incursion will be ended in The Lost Metal or will we see some temporary solution and era 3 is essentially the Ghostbloods fighting the Set? Or will Era 3 deal with the first consequences of Odium being set free?
  16. As did Nazriloff. But those Shades were generated in a ritualized manner (human sacrifice?) and used under full control as an army.
  17. I see. I formulated that ambiguously. I said that Secret History is very likely to have taken place before the Evil arrived.
  18. The Ghostbloods are at war. You have to put it that starkly. In fact effectively the whole Cosmere is. They are mostly just ignorant of that fact. And ignoring veiled dangers is precisely the thing Kelsier has sworn to never ever let happen again. You are seeing Kelsier as a philanthropist or a villain. He is neither. The best comparison would be a general or even a tribal warlord. He will protect his people. Kelsier is a nationalist. And to an extent he is not happy about the rest of the Cosmere. They ran caravans while The Lord Ruler flooded city squares with Skaa blood. Kelsier is anti-Shard. You do not kill a god king just to submit to members of an ancient cabal who happen to steal superpowers. Kelsier does not believe in excuses. If you work for the enemy, you are the enemy. Hence I conclude that Kelsier sees the concept of the Knights Radiant as kind of selling out to the Shards. Regarding Lift, once you are a combatant, you are a combatant. Your age is irrelevant.
  19. You can also constrain dates based on Threnody. Both Rhythm of War and The Ghastly Gondola have Threnodite technology unavailable in Silence in the Forests of Hell while Secret History strongly implies that it took place before the Evil arrived. You have to fit the whole hstory of Threnody between the arrival of the Forescouts and the development of these new technologies between Hero of Ages and Oathbringer, which shows the silver dagger.
  20. “War is father of all, and king of all. He renders some gods, others men; he makes some slaves, others free.” ― Heraclitus, Fragments I could also quote Odium's speech about him making men men.
  21. We know the last two. Vin and before her Rashek. But is that the whole story? I kind of doubt it, because we still have to explain why Feruchemy was concentrated on the Terris people. It seems to me it is because there was at least a third ascension before Rashek. And the well happenig to be located where it was located made it likely that it happened to someone Terris, who made Terris people feruchemists and created the Worldsingers. But that raises a question. That would create at least one Sliver. Where is his or her Shadow?
  22. I shot the sheriff, but I didn't shoot no deputy ... Isn't blaming him for things in addition to what he did still unfair?
  23. Odium is not Ruin. It is hatred, not destruction or even discord. Furthermore, why would Odium have a Surge, rather than "Void"? Odium's truest stuff is likely to be the mindless Unmade. The Thrill seems to be the best candidate.
  24. There is actually no sign that slavery is involved. In fact it may just as well be a deal. Somebody offers a device that can preserve you as a ghost in an exchange for service. Not much of a good life, but at least something.
  25. Scadrial at that time is still using literal black powder. 1870ies technology. And he is using a small pistol.
