No, that was my flawed assumption. I equated flashbacks and interludes. That feels a bit - far fetched. One more issue. Does Brandon count Spren when he does these counts?

The Scadrians know that you can become a ghost. They have a god's word for it. Kelsier did it. That opens up a question. We have only the foreword, not the whole Historica. How precise has Sazeth been? Is it a matter of public record that Kelsier took a bath in liquid Investure? Kelsier's survival is a central feature of Scadrian culture. People have been thinking about it for centuries. It would strike me as extremely odd if nobody had ever tried to recreate the feat or communicate with somebody trying to do so or the recently dead. That raises another question. How detailed have Spook's written records been? Has he talked about speaking to Kelsier after spiking himself? So what could you do to talk to the dead? If Spook's example is known, an obvious option would be to spike yourself multiple times. How many Pathian ear rings can you get into one person? Two dozen? Secondly if you need Investiture in huge amounts, how could you do that? Imagine a Nicrosil Twinborn. Suppose you are one and feel death approaching. You have prepared. You have spent a few weeks compounding. And now you take all your metalminds and ask your Nicroburst friend to give it to you just as you expire. What will happen?

Though it raises the question of whst has happened to the Final Empire's official church. It cannot have escaped some of them that they were surviving in TLR's bunkers. He did provide and he did keep the Darkness away many times. So everybody stopped worshipping him? I can understand people stop admitting it. The ruling powers were very much against their religion. But how and why was it completely lost? Is it really fully lost? But then why this adoration for the Kandra?
-
Right. You can conclude that it is present tense or nearly so. But it can still be an interlude. It just cannot be a flashback. Lift has become like Axies. Yet, doesn't that rule out Urithiru as a major place of action?

theory Yet another Voidbinding theory
Oltux72 replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
But a fabrial needs a spren. How do we know this? Sja-Anat provided it by corrupting spren. It is just as possible the Voidbinding needs a Voidspren, just like Surgebinding needs a normal spren. Yelig-Nar gives you all Surges, not all "Voids". Regals. Spren are sentient. At least some of them. There's no reason they could not make a chart. Yelig-Nar grants Surges, not "Voids" -
The problem with that is that what we got from Lift was not an interlude in all likelihood. And it was in Urithiru beyond doubt The timing does not fit for an interlude. She marked her height on a wall. The wall has markings for eight months. We lost track of her in Thaylenah. She needed to get to Urithiru. She changed her nest there, as was mentioned. She hardly started markings on day 1 of getting there. It strains credibility to assume that her PoV was not present tense of the book.

What happens if a Kandra were created with two spikes of different metals? It should work, as only one spike is basically enough. But what blessings would they convey? Neither? Both but in reduced intensity? Both? Will they make a resonance?

These religions do not exist independent of each other, obviously. Sazed was a member of Kelsier's crew and Kelsier held the Shard of Preservation for some time before Sazed took it up. That all is known to at least educated Scadrians of all religions. There are also religious texts, The Words of Founding, whose authorship is a matter of historical record. Socially their members intermarry and interact normally. So how do they do this, theologically? Kelsier - is it accurate to see his role in Pathianism like Chrisyians see Old Testament Prophets? Harmony - what exactly is Harmony to a Survivorist? An extremely powerful, immortal being, but not a god? SOmehow I cannot square that with the universal reaction to Kandra. SO what is Harmony? No terrestial equivalent? Words of Founding - are they holy to both religions, just fundamentally differently interpreted?
-
So that the North and South are coming into contact again, what will happen to religious exchanges? The North certainly has the resources to send a ship to the South. Not easily, but it can be done. And by now this must look like a matter of national security. Will the Path and Survivorism send missionaries? And how about the reverse? Will native Scadrians identify the Survivor with the Sovereign? I cannot imagine Harmony forbidding his priests from teaching knowledge about the Words of the Founding. He is too much of a scholar for censorhip to appeal to him.

O yes !!! [evil laughter strength 4] Whom else would he send? I would keep the A team at home. (Scadrial) so he cannot rely for everything on them.

Might Odium think that the Sibling is dead?
Oltux72 replied to Ripheus23's topic in Stormlight Archive
That is a strong statement. Let's compare resources spent on attacking enemy strongholds. Thaylen City: himself, Yelig-Nar, Nergaoul, Thunderclasts, many Fused, an army, a fleet, infiltration agents Kholinar: Ashertmarn, Yelig-Nar, Sja-Anat, Fused, an army, voidspren Urithiru: an army and an agent And the Midnight Mother was already in Urithiru. How much support did she get? Beaten by a single unexperienced Lightweaver and a small troop of soldiers -
Yes, but what exactly does that tell us? Are you saying that it sustains conventional photosynthesis? Is that remotely compatible with the power levels we have seen?

Study of Arcane Interactions: Allomancy and Surgebindung
Oltux72 replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
He won't stay the only one. Harmony will eventually send at least Mistings to Roshar. Well technically Demoux is a Misting. -
Have we ever seen an effect of the light from an infused gem that did not depend on a sentient observer? That is making a photograph under illumination of Stormlight or using it with a lens to start a fire? Yes, it illuminates stuff, but does that tell us that it is really physical reality? I would argue that it does not. It may spread in the CR and cause a sentient observer to notice other things. How could we tell that apart? Does aluminium shine with the color of the spheres you illuminate it with? If it is real light, the Thaylen gem archive is a time bomb. Light is energy. It will ultimately convert to heat. If a normal produces only a tenth of a watt, dozens of millions of gems will give you megawatts of heat. To do this in a closed building without much ventilation will create a job for the firefighters. And it has theoretical implications. Perfect gems will shine for centuries. That means that Stormlight can power end-neutral magic.

What Is Awakening’s Fuel? And a Poster Challenge!
Oltux72 replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
No. You can give away your Breath or get Breath without any color just fine. The Returned can sacrifice their Divine Breath for healing without color. But that still needs commands. It is specifically awakening that needs color.- 23 replies

Where and how does Hoid spend his gap year?
Oltux72 replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
(Scadrial) Would he need to test that? Possibly not. Hoid knows the theoretical side of the Arcane Arts well. He may be confident enough to just trust his predictions on the effect to just assume that it will work. -
Study of Arcane Interactions: Allomancy and Surgebindung
Oltux72 replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
OK, but that is not really exactly the topic. You as a mistborn would not have this information. I am asking people to contribute questions a clever Mistborn should and would ask, not answers we already have. Even your own? Your own Shard Plate is transparent to your Surges after all. -
Suppose you were a Mistborn and became a Surgebinder, specifically a Lightweaver, what tests of interactions between your powers would you do? a pewter run while on Stormlight do soulcast metals power my allomancy do I instantly heal if burning duraluminium while on Stormlight can I communicate with my spren while in a speed bubble can I use steel/iron on my shard blade what happens if I use soulcasting on a metal object I am using iron/steel on? can I hear my spren with bronze can I hear my illusions with bronze can my spren use allomancy does my spren develop an electrum shadow does my spren develop a gold doppelgänger can I use emotional allomancy on my spren does a coppercloud interfere with lightweavings, soulcasting or summoning my shard blade can I destroy a lightweaving with chromium do I wipe out my Stormlight with aluminium what happens to existing illusions if I use aluminium Anything else? And what would other orders do?

Where and how does Hoid spend his gap year?
Oltux72 replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
On the world with a perpendicularity, no customs hassles and the best noodles and beaches I presume. Also a world that uses coins, has dirt and no cremlings. Most tentatively, Yolen. And I suspect he owns a couple of bases in the CR, perhaps with lifeless staff. Maybe a beach house on Sel? But how does he actually operate? Camouflage as a beggar has its limits. In Elhokar's court he was a jester. Does he have safe houses in places? Caves lined with aluminium? -
After getting a letter Harmony is likely investigating. So whoever is doing that for him. (Scadrial)
-
Hoid is now a Lightweaver. He now needs to implement, maybe even research, a method to leave Roshar. In any case he seems quite interested in the conflict with Odium. So he probably does not even want to leave. Nor would that be easy. Hoid has been observed to use a perpendicularity. He would need to travel to the Horneater Peaks. So we can reasonably conclude that he is staying on Roshar. Where? Does he have a Fortress of Hoiditude? If so, where? Or does he dress up as a beggar? There will be a lot of refugees. It is possible. Living in the wilderness on Roshar on the other hand is problematic. Hoid likely would survive a Highstorm out in the open, but it would be anything but comfortable. Yet he bomded a Cryptic for a reason. Hence he would now be training Lightweaving, Soulcasting, fencing with a Shardblade or any combination of that. Doing that near any Fused or screamer spren is not a good idea. Especially as he likely does things like (Scadrial) will do. And we have to ask ourselves, whence did he get a number of aluminium sheets sufficient to shield a whole room before becoming a soulcaster. I would say he has some kind of depot or base near Kholinar.

Is there a difference? I was writing on the assumption that atium provides a limited version of generic futuresight. Doesn't it?
-
We know that alumium protects an allomancer from foreign Investiture. So you cannot heal them with Progression, AonDor or Forgery while they are burning it. But what about later effects? If you have been healed with Forgery, you have to stay forged, depending on the extent of the injury possibly permanently. If that is the case and you burn aluminium, does that amount to suicide?
-
Atium allows you to see someboy else's future. Apparently if you massively burn it, that is a limitation that can be broken and you get a future sight similar to what a Shard gets. Just that your mind cannot deal with that for long. We also know that future sights interfere with each other. So one question, if it in last consequence peeks into the Spiritual Realm, it will need to interact with someody representation in it. Does burning aluminium prevent that?
-
No. That is simply false. He does not see it as a game and that is his point. He is competitive, but not in a game. In fact he is taking the war seriously and above everything else. What do you polish, your personal toy car or a commercial truck? You will maintain it, if you are running an efficient business, but no money for beauty. Armies use this polishing of stuff to maintain esprit de corps, not for current practical reasons. Dalinar will have the better army in the long run. Sadeas will win the war quicker and maybe at all. They are well trained. And maintain their fighting edge in the field. They just don't have the orderly appearance. No. The man is highly efficient. Who did more damage to the Parshendi, Dalinar or Sadeas? The hard truth is Sadeas and everybody knew it. Sadeas was better at fulfilling the vow of vengeance.
