  1. If they happened, and they were significant, you should still probably include them. (Honestly, this RP is like 99% derailments.)
  2. I walks into the room, taking notes of the proceedings for future historians. “Don’t mind me,” says I. They sweep the confetti off of the notepad and keep writing.
  3. I don’t think there needs to be one - anyone can be free to work on anything or check what’s been done, and I think it would help if you can just drop in and work on things instead of having to sign up to a list. If you want to see who has done what, you can check the edit history.
  4. It’s more than I thought. (And I just realised I left off some stuff... ) Thanks! Whenever you’re available - but hopefully soon.
  5. (This is not just a reiteration of what I said in the PM, so I would appreciate it if you read this post as well.) Happy Subforum Day, everyone. As some of you might know, we have a wiki! It's here, at https://alleyverse.fandom.com/wiki/Alleyverse_Wiki. And it is remarkably outdated. (The fact that it has any Era 3 info at all is largely down to Snipexe - thanks, Snip!) Given that we're coming up to the one-year anniversary of this wiki, it's probably time to do a little updating. We need you (yes, you!) to help update this wiki so that it can be useful to those in the modern day. Once all of the past threads are summarized, it will be trivial to keep it up to date - a little bit of work each week from a select few. But until that point, we'll need everyone pitching in and helping out. (Some awesome people started updating stuff while I was writing this, which was also great. Thanks y'all!) Stuff We Need: Anything not underlined probably just needs a brief summary and description - locations just need to be described, and you can get away with general plot descriptions as well if it's short. That looks like a lot, but honestly anything that isn't underlined should be super quick and easy, so if you recognise any of those threads and can quickly summarize them then that would be much appreciated. (If you wanted to be awesome, you could go down the list and do everything not underlined - it shouldn't take too long and would get a lot of stuff out of the way.) To help out: Make an account on Fandom and Make pages for stuff that needs to be added, or update old pages! That's it! You don't even need to PM me; just start making pages and writing. Thanks! (A list of people who have Been Awesome, in no particular order: @Snipexe @RayOfSunshine @Archer @Rushu42 @Invocation @Sorana @Voidus Thank you to the people who have Been Awesome! If you want to Be Awesome, please help out. Cheers!)
  6. Could you elaborate on the problems that you think it would cause? I am personally fine with it. I think if we give each person freedom with how much they want each character to change (while still encouraging interesting alteration) and we plan around making the shift meaningful but not hindering, then it should be an interesting and fun idea.
  7. I personally like the idea of another plot being the ‘main’ plot while the DA setup plan takes a backseat as a secondary. Then, just as the main plot gets resolved - plot twist! The one you weren’t paying attention to has major consequences for the next era. Or we could figure out a non-combat way to dramatize trying to stop the new spiking (perhaps with Cold War-style spying and subterfuge.) If we wanted to do that, then this could even take place over 4 and 5, which I am all for. We haven’t had people experience failure, either, so this could be a way to do that. The first half (4/5) is the ‘snap’ and 5/6 is the endgame of the story. The way I envisioned it is that we keep setting threads, but we notate that the setting has changed (and listing those changes.) And new plots could be started just as easily in the new timeline.
  8. En contrare: I actually love this idea. Firstly, it makes total sense that the DA would do something like this. Voidus and Fate have lost control of their world - obviously they would try to get it back. That’s not an argument for the idea, particularly, but it’s interesting to note. Secondly, as someone who never found the monolithic power of guilds as interesting as individual characters, I think it would be amazing for character growth and development. People respond to being pushed beyond their limits and making hard choices. This is, quite possibly, the biggest push there could be. How do leaders react to having everything taken from them? If this reality is fractured, maybe they could get a little bit of their power back - but at what cost? Would you make a rift in space-time to gain troops, political clout? Would you stop your enemy from doing similar? Also; some people gaining more from the shift, or new characters coming into existence, and those people fighting for things to stay changed. (Obviously we’d have to revert, but things could be permanently changed, or carried over, to make it meaningful. Plot shouldn’t be just ‘things that happen that don’t have lasting impact’. The status quo needs to change.) I wouldn’t argue that this makes the DA more powerful. (And saying that they can abuse the system by just having stuff - anyone can do that. We just have to agree that everyone can’t.) We can say that everyone is underpowered - including the DA - there are no guilds any more. It’s clearly not a ripoff of Invo’s idea, so that’s a moot point. And it doesn’t have to be next era if that ruins existing plots. Honestly, I’d be happy to put this on the backburner for one era and pick it up over 5 and 6 so that we have time to sort everything out and prepare accordingly/conclude current plots.
  9. It’s not inactive! It’s just... temporarily dormant for an extended period. Yeah. (Sorry Vargo.)
  10. I hadn’t weighed in earlier, and I have an excess of hats (a reference that might make sense to one of you) so here’s one I’ll throw in the ring. I think that we should have both. Alleycity for the politicking. Frontier for more worldbuilding and exploration. Example: That’s an interesting location, IMO. Every thread could be marked with a location (e.g. Oasis, Alleycity, Frontier). I’ve always found it strange that we’ve only ever had one city that is ever really focused on. I think there should be a vote held on this, since there’s no general consensus as far as I can see. On the one hand, yay development; on the other, ten years is a long time. (Avatar came out ten years ago.) Hear, hear. I love this idea, and I’d love to see something similar for the other big guilds.
  11. I am glad this thread now exists, and I am looking forward to Silksong. The demo footage looks amazing. You can meet her in another area, but you don't fight her. (And I think @Fatebreaker plays as well.)
  12. Then I would suggest a certain amount of points that a character is allowed to increase by between eras (and a cap of how much they can increase overall, so you can’t use Joe Schmoe in 5 eras and become Oidus-vay; with the requirement must have been active during the era to gain the benefit AND that the increases make narrative sense. (Again, on a case-by-case basis.) That’s not a system that can be gamed easily, but allows for organic growth.
  13. I don’t like this idea, for one main reason. Participation in main plot and the creation of side plots should be in and of themselves inherently rewarding. That is, we do them because we want to, and not for some external reward. (Usually because it’s fun - maybe because of character development, which is also an inherent benefit). This is the way it’s functioned for all of the ‘verse. Adding a reward for the inherently fun activity shifts the focus away from the fun and towards the reward - especially for new players. It then becomes an RP around points, and not developing stories and ideas. Goodhart’s law. Whatever measure you use to gauge ‘participation’, people will exploit it, even on a subconscious level. People will take actions to get points. (That’s how rewards work.) But then people won’t just do things (like join guilds) because they want to, or because it’s fun - but because they can get points for it. (If I join another guild, I get more points!) And if you don’t choose the guidelines carefully, you screw over people who would prefer not to do those things - because they enjoy their experience more not doing that. Like going solo and not being in a guild? You might as well join one, because you could get points for it. Creating side plots gets you points? That will lead to an increase of side plots. Participating in the main plot has a benefit beyond being fun? People will join the side plot just to get the points. (You might say that this is still beneficial. I argue that it isn’t. They’re not trying to have fun, which goes against the idea of the RP. Having a whole bunch of people doing things that aren’t fun for them benefits nobody.) This sounds cynical and dismissive, but it’s human behavior. This is how people act. We determine our actions based on the system around us. That’s why the system is so important. And I haven’t even talked about how it would be impossible to track, or how guidelines to prevent exploitation of the system may cause issues around what is and isn’t allowed. If you wanted a way to reward active people with more powered characters (and I don’t know if we particularly want to - I know people have raised concerns, but in my (admittedly underinformed) opinion it’s probably fine as it is) then I would say that people need to ask, specifically, to go over the limit, and that there is a designated amount that they can go over by. These people need to 1) be very experienced in the Alleyverse 2) be trusted with these powerful characters (ie no history of OP characters ‘just because’) and 3) have an outline of exactly what they need and why. This is up to the mods, and on a case-by-case basis. (I would say that experienced would equal at least one era where they were fully active. No, I probably would not qualify. Nor do I want to.) Game theory rant over. TL;DR google Goodhart’s Law and I suggest that it should be case-by-case for more powered characters as it is now.
  14. @Doomstick You owe me twenty-five eggs! @Dr. Dapper Have you voted on the French Revolution? :3 4
  15. A short-haired man stepped off the train. He checked his ticket, and the sky. Close enough. “Edmund Hillary climbed Everest because it was there. That is considered one of the greatest athletic feats in... well, not this world, but on another one. Great achievements do not need motivation beyond themselves to do. The act of doing is enough to motivate it.” Magnus smiled. The train departed, travelling somewhere that was not, leaving no mark of its existence.
  16. I’d like a small timeskip, because it means my neglected characters can actually participate That being said, I think it would be interesting to have a timeskip some time soon - not only because of the children thing, but also because it would be interesting to see how events play out long-term, and how history (ie the However Many Years of Peace) reflects on them. I’m happy to continue everything else as is; my only comment would be that I would want the transition to change the status quo somehow, but that’s more on the plot of Era 3 than the actual transition.
  17. Okay, I’ll vote now. (Money Eggs or the box, I suppose.) :3 4 I propose the Haiku Law: If a person makes/a post that is a haiku/they’ll gain 90 Eggs. (Not counting stuff below horizontal lines, or crossed out words. If a line is primarily punctuation, they can count in word form. Applies retroactively.)
  18. Do you have a counteroffer? Also, can you form groups for the Continuation of Democracy? :3 4
  19. Presumably. They are ‘decided by the President’. If the President changes their decision, I guess the groups also change. :3
  20. Continuation of Democracy (in Section 14). The first group votes on a law, then if it passes the second group votes on the law, then you pass or veto it. You choose the groups. So, technically, your supporting votes don’t really count for anything yet. :3
  21. Yes, but will you? I doubt you will want to give away your entire Egg stash. So I’d like an offer upfront. :3 4
  22. Made the introduction of two new characters to the Character Listing: Dapper’s, who hasn’t made an appearance here but has in tPMoP. I will vote for whoever will give me the better offer. I will fix that in a moment. I grant you the eggs, unwillingly. :3 4 Dr Dapper: MetaTerminal:
  23. I don’t believe there’s a time limit. Also, you can control an NPC... that just means that everyone else can, too. You need to decide on groups for Rule 88. You also haven’t voted for the Unification... would you like to? :3
  24. Things that might be inaccurate: 1 amendment support vote, 1 unanimous passing? I shall check those. I support rules 105 and 106, passing them. :3 I propose the Rule of This Sentence: that this sentence not be considered for the purposes of this game. I withdraw it. Vote for laws, everyone! I suggest, informally, that if the Unification goes through then that all Unified RP should take place in here.
