Gaming the System in Forging
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Kurkistan's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I don't really think there's enough additional evidence to be presented to convince either of us, so we can drop it until Brandon lets more info about resealing slip. -

Shai's justifying her entire career path - she pathologically avoids areas where she can be held responsible. And she *hasn't* studied Resealing in depth. Yet, she still is able to adjust levels of musculature, readjust hair follicles, and add in healed scars over old wounds. Not only that, she CURES HER OWN VISION when in warrior form, effectively giving herself LASIK. ("She slipped off her spectacles. Her eyes had been healed long ago, and she didn’t need those any longer.") If soulstamps were working off of medical knowledge, Shai would *need* to have studied in depth to get them to work. But she didn't. Since she doesn't have any ability as a resealer, but can still pull off these significant and complex changes to human physiology, we can conclude that Shai's soulstamps operate under different mechanics than resealing does. She also admits to only being "vaguely" familiar with resealing - and, again, she considers bloodsealing to be a kind of Forgery as well, so we *know* she puts things under the umbrella of 'Forgery' that aren't properly there. -
(Major Spoilers)Kelsier- Influenced by Ruin?
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Cartith's topic in Mistborn
I wish there was a story to give them justice, I really do. But when these guys *literally* use 'weigh him down with our dead' as a tactic against Mistborn, I can't really take them seriously as hardened professionals. -

Note the lower case 'forgery' here. Shai's not talking magic, she's talking making fake paintings. -
(Major Spoilers)Kelsier- Influenced by Ruin?
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Cartith's topic in Mistborn
The hazekiller chapter was great... but only if you play the Benny Hill theme alongside it. It's just poorly thought out and makes hazekillers look like morons. I could rant, but... not the thread for it. -

Feruchemists aren't. I hadn't heard that about metalminds. -

Shai claims that of Bloodsealing as well, but we have Word of Brandon that bloodsealing is a separate magic system. Resealing has several pretty important difference from Forgery - for one thing, you don't seem to reapply a stamp when you use it on humans. For another, a poor Forgery is rejected, but a poor Resealing seems to kill people. -
(Major Spoilers)Kelsier- Influenced by Ruin?
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Cartith's topic in Mistborn
It's The Eleventh Metal, a short story a couple dozen pages long that serves as the intro for the RPG. (Speaking of RPG stuff, don't even bother with House of Ashes. It wasn't written by Sanderson and aside from continuity issues, it's just kinda shoddy all around) -
(Major Spoilers)Kelsier- Influenced by Ruin?
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Cartith's topic in Mistborn
The Inquistor talked Kelsier into the fight In that story, Kelsier was trained by Gemmel, who was spiked (and, among other things, apparently helped him out of the Pits of Hatshin and then lead him to the eleventh metal). Since that story is supposed to answer that question, I figure that about wraps it up - no direct influence, but he was trained by a ruincrazed guy. -

I'm pretty sure Resealing is (like bloodsealing) seperate in mechanics from Forgery. -

Only quote I have about that says that you could feed a vampire with soulcast blood. Which might or might not mean that it works - depends what kind of vampire Brandon was thinking of (it probably was a classical one, not a Returned, and there's a lot of variation there). Probably just people meeting each other. That said, he's mentioned you can get weird stuff if you crossbreed awakeners and mistborn. -
Theory: The origin, nature, and purpose of Shardblades
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, the body focus for diamond (and soulcasting crystal) is 'the eyes'... and they've got a clear crystal on the hilt, and mess with your eyes. -
Or it's possible it's slipped through the cracks. I mean, it's fairly likely, but we've gotten viewpoints from minor people who are pretty weird in Warbreaker before. I'm still not sure that Old Chapps was really as minor as he seems... but then again, I'm also of the opinion that Vasher is a member of the seventeenth shard, since he uses 'investiture' as his personal terminology.

Gaming the System - Crazy Extrapolations
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Phantom Monstrosity's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well, an Iron Compounder could in principle become dense enough to slow down time because of gravitational forces. Though, according to Peter, "Right now I'm thinking there is not enough accessible iron on the planet." So I think you'd need to like, eat the highstorms. All of them. It depends on how big they are, I think. Nightblood and shardblades are arguably 'full' of investiture, so they probably can't be used as a hemalurgic spike... but if you started with a spike you could probably build Nightblood around it. Dunno how that would work with different foci - maybe you'd end up with a Nightblade that could sense allomancy when fed the color orange or something. Or steal mental traits from a dying guy and upload them into a sword. Nightblood is apparently 'orders of magnitude' more magical than a shardblade, so that might mean the investiture is stored in a denser manner, which would make them compatible. Incidentally, that lead me to start thinking about the 'more mechanical' magic that the other dudes had on the Southern Continent. I was thinking, having blood in motion is apparently part of the spiritual aspect for hemalurgy, and it's the spiritweb that determines the form that power comes into when using allomancy. So if you make a circular pipe with pumps, fill them with blood, stick hemalurgic spikes in, and add in iron filings, you might be able to make an artificial lurcher engine. Basically, if the hemalurgic spikes are themselves chunks of spiritweb, I don't see any reason why you *necessarily* need to stick them into a person to get the spiritweb to do things. -
Emperor's Soul Theory Discussions
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Windrunner's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
In other words, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. -
Brandon's said that, so unless he changes his mind, yeah.
-
The exact quote is Do you have any word confirming that the Lifeless PoV would be from Clod?
-
Yeah, but we do have a word of Brandon that all Lifeless are more aware than people give them credit for.

Emperor's Soul Theory Discussions
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Windrunner's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Not the case at all. For example, if someone says 'my new drug cures all forms of cancer', the burden of proof is solely on them to prove it. You can't put the burden on the general public to disprove that, especially when they don't know what the drug is made of. -
Theory: The origin, nature, and purpose of Shardblades
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm going to say that I think shardblades are powered by the wielder. Hence why they don't work when nobody holds them. -
Brandon's said he'll put one into Nightblood.

Gaming the System - Crazy Extrapolations
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Phantom Monstrosity's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Liquid metal is kinda difficult, why not use the Exsanguinator 1000 Use plaster and make a full cast of your body. Get a ton of (un)willing volunteers, and fill up the entire void with a hundred and seventy pints of human blood. Mix with ichor-alcohol, to taste. It's made from humans, and it has a human shape. Awaken that sucker as a Lifeless - it won't even take that many Breath. Now, the blood's going to go bad over time, but we know from the scenes repairing Clod that you can replace parts and keep the Lifeless going. And we know that touching moving blood causes you to (in some way) touch someone's spiritual aspect, which is why the soulshielding on allomancy happens. So these constantly-rotting amorphous shapeshifting Lifeless would be forced to continuously replace their blood from the people they kill, accumulating more energy by devouring the souls of the ones they exsauginate, and spreading plague all the while. A pretty nice monster. -
It gives them enough awareness to be a PoV character, so...
