  1. I'm actually the number of fabrial types to expand to ten by the end of the series. Each one is tied to a specific type of gem and there are ten of those used in the various magic systems, so it seems natural that the fabrial types would be tied in there too.
  2. I haven't registered yet because I'm kind of confused. Are you supposed to name the account after your character? But you can have multiple characters? And on the application form there's a part labelled: What does that mean?
  3. Hi! And it is all very pretty. And Josh says the incoming stuff is even better, can't wait to see it!
  4. I've noticed some overlap between Brandon fans and Doctor Who fans. And the fact that you clicked on this topic means you're probably part of that! Let's have some questions to spark conversation. 1. How long/how much have you watched DW? 2. What's your favorite thing about Doctor Who? 3. Who's your favorite Doctor? 4. Just how terrifying do you find the Weeping Angels?
  5. A WoT convert! Awesome! So how would you say he measures up against RJ? I'd understand if you like RJ more, I just like to get a feel for people and this seems like a good question for that. I've never read WoT, but my first hearing about Brandon came from that direction. I'd never heard of WoT and this guy was telling me about how RJ had died on them and someone else was finishing it. I'm not sure if he mentioned Brandon by name, but that was my first brush with destiny, so to speak. Glad to have you here!
  6. I'm leaning more towards them being the Essences and associated orders of Knights Radiant, since I'm assuming that the faces along the border are the Heralds.
  7. Swifty! My fellow Cthullu-to-the-face-getting person!
  8. Well, I just listed names, if any of the ones I listed overlap, it hasn't been confirmed yet. This is what we're working with.
  9. So I've been thinking a bit about Mistings and Mistborn. And the "all or one" mentality of this magic system seems weird to me. I like the idea of a gradient of abilities better, but that doesn't exist. That's fine with me, but it does provide a nice space for hypothetical thinking, which is what I like! So my thought is, what if you could have less powers than a Mistborn, but more than a Misting? What would you call this? What sort of form would it take? Here's what I've thought up. I think that the amount of power would scale up by powers of two. The next level up from a Misting would have two, then up from that would have 4, than 8 and finally a full powered Mistborn with 16 (plus the 2 God Metals, but those never counted anyway) Here's what I think these would be called: Two powers=Mistcoin (two sides of a coin for two powers) Four powers=Mistsand (one fourth of the total metals is a quarter. Quarter, quart, quarts, quartz, sand. Dumb pun, I know) Eight powers=Misteye (half the powers is one of two, one of two eyes, yeah, another dumb one) I'll post the list of names for specific examples of these later. If you want to come up with better names, do so!
  10. I think Nathon Fillion would totally pull off the personality, but he just doesn't look enough like Kelsier to me. I was kinda against Ellen Page, but then I saw Inception, which was fantastic. Now I think she'd totally be able to pull it off. But the things is that her face is too round to match the semi-emaciated look I always pictured for Vin.
  11. And that's another thing! Dan was there and I didn't even know until after he'd left! Lame! I wanted to see him!
  12. So, with the release of the Way of Kings, we have more tidbits on the Shards! So let's run through our total. Ruin - Ati (Mistborn) Preservation - Leras (Mistborn) Endowment (Warbreaker) Austre (Warbreaker) Odium (Stormlight Archive) The Almighty (Stormlight Archive) Cultivation (namedropped in Stormlight Archive) Rayse (namedropped in Stormlight Archive; has appeared, briefly, behind the scenes of Elantris) Aona (namdropped in Stormlight Archive) Skai (namedropped in Stormlight Archive) Bavadin (namedropped in Stormlight Archive) 11, and these are just the ones with names of some sort, though some of these may overlap. This brings us to the tip Brandon gave us a while ago about Shards we'd seen apart from Ati and Leras. IIRC, it's one who we've encountered directly, two whose influence we've seen and one who WAS there but wasn't there at the time of the book. Would those who remember this better be willing to correct me? IMO, the first one is either Skai or Aona, the the second and third are Austre or Endowment and Skai or Aona, and the fourth is Rayse after his visit to Sel. Read on for explanations. I'm of the opinion that Bavadin, Rayse's associate according to the epigraph to Chapter 23 of WoK, is Odium. Why? Because the obvious choice for Odium would be Rayse and Brandon wouldn't make it that obvious. It also makes the most dangerous Shard one we haven't seen yet. The epigraphs also refer to Rayse's visit to Sel, the setting of Elantris, (WoK Chapter 21 epigraph). The next epigraph states that Aona and Skai are dead. I'm thinking that these two are the Shards on Sel. Thoughts and opinions on this? Things that I missed or got wrong? This is the place for it!
  13. Arriving at 11:20 and being promptly shuffled to the very back of the line meant that I missed out on EVERYTHING. Oh, well, still lots of fun. Though I liked yesterday's signing better. Magic, Denny's and Gamespren.
  14. Okay, when would they start doing stuff leading up to midnight?
  15. So when do they end and when do they start?
  16. I mean, when do they start doing the fun stuff? Cuz I don't care so much about getting a low number as much as I want to do some of the cool stuff they've got going on.
  17. Here's a place to come up with your own hypothetical spren or guess as to what some actual spren might look like. I'll start! Awesomespren: appear around things of amazing spectacle. Look like floating, glowing, crystalline-golden exclamation points, tend to gather in spinning circles of five or six. Failspren: gelatinous bubbles of green and yellow pus that stick to the face of someone who has done something facepalm worthy. Gamespren: big, red, razzing tongues with white letters spelling "YOU LOSE!" on them. Wander around places where people gather and lick those who read their tongues. Okay, that last one was a joke, but most of these will probably be jokes! This supposed to be fun, and not particularly serious. This is also not the place for theorizing about spren, go start your own topic!
  18. Well, if Syl doesn't count directly as an Awesomespren (being the kind of spren denoted in the spoiler) lets come up with what an actual Awesomespren would be and what kind of things cause it to appear.
  19. When do the festivities start? I have to get a ride there and they want to get there about 11 but if the fun starts before then I might be able to convince them to leave sooner.
  20. Wait, why would the chasm mark be inside Elantris? The chasm is what, halfway across the country from Elantris? Kae itself is part of the Aon, yes? One of the circles outside the main circle? Wouldn't that place the mark where it is in the book?
  21. Hey, everybody! New here, but I've been on the Time Waster's Guide Forums for a couple months under the username of Fireborn. (those on that forum might know me there) Having a BS forum is a great idea, without the restrictions of balancing with anyone else. Can't wait to dive into the community!
  22. Not knowing exactly how Pulsing and Sliding work, I'm gonna go with Iron. Why not Steel? Because I think Pulling to travel would be a lot easier than Pushing. Think Spiderman. You'd basically be him minus the webs but with the metal restriction. That would be all sorts of awesome. EDIT: Now that I've confirmed with Brandon how exactly Pulsing/Sliding works, I'm still going to go with Iron.
  23. Figuring in Atium becomes even more complicated when you introduce the fact that an Atium misting simply shouldn't exist. How would the power of Preservation allow access only to a metal that doesn't actually draw on Preservation's power at all? This is easily explained when it comes to a Mistborn using it, but becomes a legitimate conundrum when trying to think of Atium mistings by themselves. This means that the relationship between Atium and Allomancy isn't quite what we think it is and makes it difficult to come to any sure conclusions with it.
  24. Warbreaker is a great book. It's also probably the most innovative, unique and genuinely useful of Brandon's magic systems. The one complaint I have about this book is that the politicking to combat ratio is a little higher than I'd like, but then again, that's probably kind of the point. Also, not enough Vasher.
