So Brandon has said that, in the future books, Feruchemy will be broken down into Misting form and that you can be a Misting in both Allomancy and Feruchemy. Which metals would you want to use? Any guesses about especially potent or useful combinations? Would Aluminum Gnats be able to blank out metalminds as well? Any sports that might emerge under such circumstances? This is for general discussion, so talk away!

Magic Systems (Forum Game)
Silus - Shard of Flame replied to Shivertongue's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
The native Americans were right to think that drinking blood makes you stronger, but not just blood. Any red liquid, from food coloring to pizza sauce will give the drinker the power of astral projection! But that's not all! Other colors give you different abilities. Magic Systems (Forum Game)
Silus - Shard of Flame replied to Shivertongue's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I got one! Using the magic has little limitations, but a cost, it deprives you of your senses for different amounts of time based on how powerful the magic is. Using a spell to lift something could crust your eyes over for a few minutes, or make your legs numb. If the spell is too strong, you can go permanently blind or simply be reduced to a comatose state. This could lead to a situation where, in order to perform some massive magic to save the world, the caster would be reduced to a vegetable. And my idea IS: DVD Magic, using both the discs and the player -
Inkwing.com Contest
Silus - Shard of Flame replied to firstRainbowRose's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Well, as long as we're talking about the www.inkwing.com contest (being hosted by www.inkwing.com), I wonder if quoted links count. Because I would be truly interested in winning a T-shirt from www.inkwing.com, as www.inkwing.com's clothing is pretty awesome. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that www.inkwing.com makes some of the best T-shirts out there. Does linking to inkwing.com via a quote of someone linking to inkwing.com count? And is it for each individual link to inkwing.com, or do you have to link to inkwing.com from different places? How do they know when inkwing.com has been linked to? Or where inkwing.com has being linked to from? Also: inkwing.cominkwing.cominkwing.com -
Crazy stuff from that crazy internet!
Silus - Shard of Flame replied to Eerongal's topic in General Discussion
This is awesome, generally anything this guy makes in fantastic. But this one is simply brilliant. Or, if you're looking for something EVEN SILLIER, search for "Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody". It will BLOW YOUR MIND. -
Ooh, I like mafia! I've never played it over forums before, though. That should be interesting. I love the silly ones with lots of really short posts. There's one I did on another forum called Song Association, I think. Where one person would post the name of a song and then another person would name another song with a logical connection of some sort. It's very interesting to see where people's thought processes go with this. I was also wondering if RPs not based on Brandon's books would be okay, but that'd be a question for the RP forum, of course.

Book Recommendations
Silus - Shard of Flame replied to Silus - Shard of Flame's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Another of my favorite series would definitely be Animorphs by K.A. Applegate. It's marketed as middle grade, but it really is more YA. The books are short but there are TONS of them. The characters are fantastic, both heroes and villains, with the emotional baggage that comes with being a bunch of kids fighting a secret alien invasion being very present. It was my first SF series, but it's one that really has lasting quality. -
How about Transformation? The Vorin religion refers to him as Elianthile(sp?), "He who transforms". And, with Geranid's Principle, change is a vital part of the spren, which would make them part of the Almighty's magic. I hope that logic makes sense.

Spren- which shard they are related to.
Silus - Shard of Flame replied to valkynphyre's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well, to me, "ambient magic" means the presence of of a Shard, or Shards, on a planet, which creates magic on its own. My theory is that this is where all of the magic used by humans comes from. It can also affect the environment, and in turn, be affected by it. e.g., spren. -
From the way everyone is talking, it seems that Preservation actually changed the structure of Allomancy. I'm about 99.999999% positive that this is not the case. He didn't change Allomancy itself, he simply used the mists to emphasize the presence of of Atium Mistings in Elend's army. When we say that he "replaced" a metal with Atium, it means that he messed with their perception of it in order to maintain his sixteen rule. Sorry, I know most of you guys get this, but I feel it should be stated. Then why would Brandon RAFO it? Maybe he wants to use this uncertainty as to its purpose as a source of conflict and suspense in a future book. And then, just when the hero needs enormous power the most...POW...nothing...

Hi, Paul! Welcome to the forum! Actually, we have an Introductions forum already, but this'll be moved probably as soon as one of the mods notices it. More time not working does seem to translate to more time on the computer, doesn't it?

We've got several articles that aren't properly linked. Mainly, we've got character pages that use only first names, but links to articles with the character's full name (such as Jasnah vs Jasnah Kholin). Is there anything to be done about this?

Silus - Shard of Flame replied to valkynphyre's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I dunno, it's said that art is an expression of truth the eye of the beholder. After thinking of "He who transforms" and Geranid's Principle, I'm actually torn between thinking that the spren are the result of ambient magic or the Almighty specifically. -

Herald Chapter Pictures--Identities *spoilers*
Silus - Shard of Flame replied to Timemaster11's topic in Stormlight Archive
This...is...AMAZING. WOW. Who else thinks it odd that the first book, the one focused on Kaladin, is blue, and that the blue symbol looks pretty darn similar to the sword symbol on the front of the book? I'm going to assume that the honorspren and Windrunning in general are tied to Jezrien somehow. I'm thinking that the ten orders of Knights are each tied to a Herald, which would make sense, since the Heralds would seem to be the generals in each Desolation. Any other ideas? -
I agree on the spren part, but not the highstorm part. The highstorms seem to have been around as long as Roshar, like Ryan said. This makes sense. As seen in the Geranid interlude, change is part of the spren's nature. And didn't Shallan mention in one of her early chapter that the name of the Almighty is translated as "He who transforms"? I think we can take a pretty good estimate as to what the Almighty's Shard is.

No, bridgemen get two clearmarks a day. But doesn't it say that the slave debt is worth much more than the actual price of a slave? What I really want to know is what the ratio is between marks and broams. If we knew that we could figure out the multiples between any denomination of any gem we know of in comparison to one of the others. Well, the order of gems isn't tied to the number system, seeing as Emerald is five, Diamond is four and Sapphire is one. A sapphire mark is only one eighth of an emerald broam. That seems...off somehow.

Perhaps we should have a list of the different metals and their Feruchemical powers, since Feruchemy has thus far all been lumped together, it would make it easier for everyone to know what their options are. Iron - Stores Physical Weight Steel - Stores Physical Speed Tin - Stores Senses Pewter - Stores Physical Strength Zinc - Stores Mental Speed Brass - Stores Physical Warmth Copper - Stores Memories Bronze - Stores Wakefulness Atium - Stores Youth Gold - Stores Health For fun stuff, I'd probably go with Steel, for camping I'd go with Brass, and for everything else, I'd go with probably Zinc.

Here's a place to recommend your favorite, non-Brandon books to everyone! What was my favorite book before reading Mistborn was a book called The Meq. It's about this group of kids who, once they turn twelve, stop aging. They develop mentally, but not physically. They are the Meq. They know little of where they come from or what they are supposed to be doing, but they have clues in the form of relics of their people and five mysterious Stones with mystical powers, powers to match their own unique abilities. You see through the eyes of Zianno Zezen, a Meq who is just now learning of his powers after the death of his parents, leaving him ignorant of things he needs to know about himself, and follow him as he meets others of his kind, some good, others not so good, as they make their way through a world populated by the Giza, the other people. The world is rapidly changing at the dawn of the twentieth century, and the Meq's old ways have to change to accommodate, but with radical characters such as the Fleur-du-mal, a psychotic and extremely dangerous Meq, about in the world, will they even survive? I love, love, love this book, along with its sequel, the first two parts of a trilogy (with the third part being released at an unknown time), because it has an interesting take on history, told with some truly realistic characters. It takes real advantage of the characters' immortality, often making time jumps of several years, but not in a way that breaks the flow of the story. Check it out if your looking for a good historical fantasy. What about you guys? What are your favorite books that you think other people will like?

This is crazy better! The improvements are awesome! The yellow really makes a difference! One note, on the forum, at the bottom it still has the old icons for which forums have new posts in them, you might want to change that for the sake of not confusing people. I was slightly off-put cuz of that, since I was bewildered, but that's probably since I didn't apply my brain to the task for about thirty seconds. (I was distracted by the sexy new look 8) )

Theory on Elhokar *SPOILERIFFIC*
Silus - Shard of Flame replied to Earendil's topic in Stormlight Archive
I sometimes feel really weird cuz I pick up on things on my first read through that other people don't. Like this, or Shallan having a Shardblade. I totally recognized that he was seeing the same thing as Shallan. But the weird part is that I don't ever really want to mention it because I feel like I'm rubbing people's face in it which I kinda am but I'm not trying to... I've been reading too much Hyperbole and a Half. -
My first question is, of course, how the heck did someone crack that code?! That thing was ridiculous! It doesn't even LOOK like letters! Wow, I didn't know that's how fabrials worked, awesome. I really hope to see a lot more fabrials in future. I find the blending of magic and science to be fascinating, and these machines are really a superb thing Brandon's created. I'm surprised we haven't seen a Pain Knife yet. Seems like a nifty thing to have. Who else thinks that important, not magick-wielding people, such as King Taravangian, carry these around? I find it surprising that they keep flamespren in emeralds, didn't expect that. I should probably take another look at the Table of Essences to see how that matches up. EDIT: It doesn't match up! The soulcasting essence for fire is a ruby! This suggests an "opposites attract" philosophy when it comes to what gems spren are attracted to.

And the Epigraphs for TFE are up! It's really barebones, though. I just put down the Epigraph text. There's other stuff that might go on there. Like the bit of the journal that Vin reads about Alendi seeing how Feruchemy works, we might want to put that on this page as well.
