  1. It has to do with spiritual realm not the cognitive. It’s possible he was hearing from Evi in the spiritual realm. Dalinar at least briefly ascended according to Odium. Mistborm Series spoilers:
  2. “A man stood on a cliff side and watched his homeland fall to dust. The waters surged beneath, so far beneath. And he heard a child crying. They were his own tears.” - WoK ch. 3 epigraph Dalinar sees a crude mock up of Kholinar fall to dust in the final vision, but there is no water and no tears. I think Szeth will witness Shinovar’s destruction in book 5. He might even help cause it. Shinovar is close to the ocean and the surge of Division, which is Szeth’s other surge, can cause things to crumble to dust amongst other things. A repeat of whatever was done to shatter the shattered plains, only worse.
  3. I think the death rattles will recur, or apply to more than one situation in the books. There is one in particular that I think applies to Dalinar, twice. The first applies to the more mundane events dealing with House Kholin and Alethkar; the second deals with his Ascension. "fallen title" = House Kholin; Knights Radiants "The Tower" = Kholin Banner has a tower on it; Urithiru "The Crown" = Essentially replacing Elhokar as king in all but name; Replacing Tanavast as Honor's Vessel "The Spear" = Kaladin; A weapon to defeat Odium, maybe by picking a Champion (Kaladin again?) It could also apply to Kaladin. He is present when Amaran drops the KR cloak at Dalinar's order, he saved Dalinar at the Tower, he saved Elhokar in WoR and he got his Shardspear.
  4. Great catch! Maybe it was a Radiant fortress not necessarily of any particular order and when all the other orders quit the Skybreakers started using it. It could also be that each order had a base in one of the 10 Silver Kingdoms and Selas Tales (where the Purelake is) was the Skybreakers. Although, in the WoK vision where Dalinar talks to a radiant it almost sounds like she's saying the KR all live in Urithiru or Althethela. Maybe only her order lives in Alethela, but that's not how she makes it sound. Maybe the KR had war time fortresses in all the kingdoms, but they trained and lived in Alethela during the breaks between desolations.
  5. That's a good in world justification for it. He's also very Honor-like in that moment, doesn't like the #9. 10 though, that's a great number! Like when the 9 soon-to-be Heralds went to Honor with the idea for the Oathpact and he said they needed to recruit one more person. As we discussed in this other thread 10 is either Honor's magic number or the magic number of the Roshar system. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/62123-ob-nine-is-odiums-number/ I still don't like that Dalinar counts them in that moment.
  6. Yes, there were 10, one representing each of the 10 surge pairings. He counts the Heralds as Radiants even though technically they are a very different thing. What he's really doing is counting book main flashback characters for each of the 10 SA books which he should have no knowledge of. This is a bit too meta for me. I don't like that he's counting main characters in the middle of this battle. I'd prefer if Brandon hadn't highlighted it and left it unsaid that this is the first time all the book main characters are gathered in the same place at the same time. That way it would be a neat little thing if readers notice it and if not that's fine. It is a little meta and on the nose to call it out.
  7. I thought about Eila Stele, but they won't use a name with two gibberish words that are hard to pronounce. I barely know how to pronounce it and I have the audiobook (which may not be correct). A-La Steal-E
  8. He plays with ten because the magic system predates his arrival. There are ten surges and he has no control over that. The 9-centric nature of Braize reflects the fact that he invested Braize, while he hasn't up to now invested the rest of the system. There are 9 unmade, because those are his own creation. So, here we have a couple of the many WoB's on numbers and shards. Note that some shards do have numbers associated with them, but most don't. This would make sense if Honor is one of the ones that do, and Cultivation is one that doesn't. The number 10 is important to Roshar, but there's a chicken/egg scenario in there. Was it important before Honor arrived? Did Honor choose it because of the connection to ten? The number can be important to both the system and the shard without mutual exclusivity. The second one here is also particularly important, no ambiguity in the response at all, a flat yes with Honor being 10 and Odium being 9 a part of that question. Now I won't pretend that it isn't possible that mistakes were made somewhere, but it seems there is pretty strong evidence for the association of 9 with Odium and 10 with Honor. Yeah, the big WoB you quoted seems to puncture the numbered Shards idea. Honor is using 10 because of the Rosharan system. I think we can assume Braize would be 10 as well if not for Odium's presence. Either he did something specific on Braize or because he is the Void his number is the system # 10 - 1 = 9 The 10 gas giants created by Adonalsium tip it in favor of it being a system thing and not an Honor specific thing. It's possible Honor loves 10 and that's why he wanted to go to Roshar. Unless there were 13 gas giants and Honor turned 3 into the moons (somehow) to get to 10 . That would mean there were 16 planets total in the system originally The moons are parked in an unstable orbit, which is unnatural it's like someone did it intentionally who didn't quite know what they were doing. A recently ascended Tanavast perhaps? This brings up my favorite Word of Peter where he yells at people about their moon gas giant theory. In this he shoots down that Roshar can't be a gas giants at the same time as the moons being gas giants. My loony luna theory is that the moons were gas giants and were changed. He says he expects they were put there artificially.
  9. Oathbringer was also the name of Dalinar's autobiography that he was writing at the end. The rest will also be in world books, although they might not be ones previously mentioned.
  10. Stormlight Book 4 Speculation:
  11. That's very good and sad. He really does need to give the X of Y titles a rest for a while. WoA, HoA, WoK, WoR, SoS, BoM More joke titles: Redemption Song; Rhythm Nation; Rhythm is a (Edge)dancer; Dawn of the Planet of the Singers; Rock Lobster(s)
  12. Planet Rhythm; Rhythm Planet; Venli's How to Lose a God in 10 Days; 10 Things I HATE About Odium
  13. Humor isn't the strongest suit in these books. I do find some of the word play humor a bit grating. A lot of the wacky characters do the "You thought I was talking about one thing, but I was talking about another thing" subversion of expectations. Contrast those with this from Pattern that is hilarious. Because Pattern isn't trying to be funny he just misunderstands the implication of what is meant and has a positive reaction to a negative comment. The whole interlude at the monastery in OB "Ellista" where she sneaks out to read romance novels is great because it's not characters trying to be funny and insufferably twist each others words. With Shallan I don't mind so much, it is part of her core issue of not wanting to confront uncomfortable things, she uses humor to deflect as a defense mechanism. Jashnah calls her out on it:

  15. He tried to eat Szeth and Lift before Dalinar United the realms. Szeth breathed in stormlight and they were saved by that. Then they got the sheath back and Szeth promised Lift: I don't think it was unsheathed long enough for us to really tell. It was already feeding on Szeth and Lift, it was busy and might not have bothered with the gaseous investiture. If it was dropped on the field unsheathed it might have fed.
  16. These WoBs support @RSharas answers.
  17. This could be part of why Autonomy is going after Harmony. It thinks Ruin and Preservation should be be on their own. As to why it has moved onto killing life on Scadrial, it doesn't like the way Harmony is doing things. It thinks Harmony is too controlling (even Sazed has acknowledged he interfered too much in the North early on). Autonomy doesn't like how Harmony does things, is afraid of its influence spreading to other parts of the Cosmere and Autonomy's other efforts have been thwarted. It is willing to kill the people living on Scadrial to limit the spread. There are other factors to consider. We don't know Bavadin's personality and way she interpreted the intent. The Intent matters more, but the Vessel has some say in the tactics and approach to the Intent. The other thing is that this is Trell, an avatar of Autonomy which has it's own mind. We know that Autonomy has the ability to instill certain feelings into its avatars. The way Trell is going about things may be a little different from how the other avatars are. This is an astute observation. Sazed has commented on how he fears he has stunted the growth of half the planet with his helicopter Sharding and that may well be what has drawn Autonomy's attention.
  18. Yeah. The Everstorm was Odium's way around the Oathpact. We don't exactly how the Everstorm works mechanically, but the result is the Fused come right back through the storm. I think they killed Jezrien in a special way with the gemstone because they want to make use of his sword and not because Odium is worried about the Oathpact. If he died normally the sword would presumably go back with him to Braize automatically and it is still Jezrien's blade, so if on some off chance he snapped out of his insanity he could summon the blade to himself. It would be a real problem for Vyre if Jezrien happened to die while Vyre was in combat and the blade Vyre was wielding disappeared.
  19. That's what I was saying I didn't remember the name of the first narrator so I just said he. "He really nailed the balance of overflowing positivity and creepiness. But Lightsong ... oh boy. Surf's up dude!!"
  20. We hop from world to world by going book to book, but we don't interfere in the goings on
  21. Thank you for this link. Jasnah could have a neurological disorder, a mental illness or something else. I could see her institutionalization being a result of her being as a very willful "different" girl in a society with very strict gender roles and her behavior was seen as "abnormal". She may have been beginning to bond a spren as well and this would lead to her acting oddly. They are in different orders, but Elhokar started talking about seeing strange creatures in the mirror watching him. Dalinar and Adolin think he's paranoid and imagining things, but he wasn't. Jasnah may have started a proto-radiant bond and not understood, but for whatever reason she did not progress in the bond as a child. We saw that Shallan stopped progressing as a child as well. It's tough when trying to diagnose fictional characters (or anyone when we're not doctors and they aren't our patients) because many different conditions share behavior markers and characteristics. I've seen people go back and forth on whether Kelsier is best categorized as Psychopath, a Sociopath or a Malignant Narcissist. I have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety and ADHD by multiple doctors, but some of the traits of Asperger's on the website you linked are very familiar, but most are not. I don't write this to say anybody is right or wrong I just wanted to caution that similar symptoms can have different causes. As another example it is difficult to tell the difference between ADHD and Bipolar https://www.additudemag.com/adhd-vs-bipolar-a-guide-to-distinguishing-look-alike-conditions/
  22. Are you saying Endowment wrapped up a clump of Ruin investiture on purpose as nice present and put it in there for her own purposes? That's what I think happened. I had the thought Sazed might have reason to work with her to stick some of his excess Ruin, but it doesn't really fit with his overall Cosmere cluelessness and the window of opportunity is very tight based on the timeline. I like the idea of the mechanics you describe: Endowment positioned a chunk of Ruin in the right place and right time so that the Destroy Evil command would pull it in. By giving Nightblood that extra boost Endowment put a superweapon in the hands of Worldhoppers who had already been to Roshar and then Nightblood ended up on Roshar. As Endowment said in her letter to Hoid: "If Rayse becomes an issue, he will be dealt with."
  23. I was just thinking of that yesterday. I really loved how he did Nightblood's voice, Michael Kramer, Kate Reading and Alyssa Bresnahan do a fine job, but their Nightblood is not as fun as his. He really nailed the balance of overflowing positivity and creepiness. But Lightsong ... oh boy. Surf's up dude!! I think "matched in temperament" was meant as Dalinar and Evi complimented each other. I don't think it's a retcon, the information we get in WoK is consistent with what we see in OB. In WoK Dalinar is spoken of as having had a bad temper, a fearsome warrior who would challenge anyone to a duel on the spot if they insulted him and Evi is described as very kind. That said it is shocking to see how cruel he was to her at times. The most painful flashback in OB that I skip on rereads is not her death, but when she shows up at the warcamp with Adolin and he screams at her "what are you doing here?!". We knew she died a violent death relatively young, but that she was so unappreciated and unhappy breaks my heart.
  24. Yeah, Sazed would have had to do it very soon after his Ascension based on the timeline, making Nightblood is a very un-Sazed thing to do. For motive I'm thinking he was trying to balance himself out and wanted to deposit the extra Ruin somewhere else. The biggest problem with my theory is that Sazed would have to know about Nalthis and likely work with another Shard. Yet he seems very surprised by Hoid's letter as you say and in Era 2 he seems to have no idea what's going on on his own planet much less the rest of the Cosmere.
  25. I get it! It's like the merging of two Shards. Ruin is the Shark because a sharks nature is to kill anything in its way, but it's nothing personal (except in JAWS 4: This Time It's Personal) and Autonomy is the horse because horses like to run free!
