  1. I don’t know it seems to me that Scadrial has plenty of magic tec in it. Their guns ships all use some form of magic to mention they’re healing devices and the cloud. It seems like in this case they’re using a lot of other technology because they’re on the frontier and don’t have access to a steel field. Democratization of the magic art does not mean that everyone will have access to them in equal measure.
  2. Not to mention the “cloud” is probably a combination of copper-A duralumin-A combined in Harmonium and I suspect that the power source is Harmonium also
  3. I suspect because Devotion Wanted to preserve her people
  4. I agree that wasn’t the part I was objecting to I was only they clearly aren’t unified and she admits as much. I’m just demonstrating that the south must be dominant given that from the outside no one needs clarification if you use. Scadrial and.Malwish interchangeably, which means that only one of them is a dominant force on the cosmere level meaning that one is clearly significantly more dominant than the other. I suspect this is due to a partial, but not complete Victory in era 3 much like the singers Victory in Stormlight
  5. “Scadrial is not politically unified judging by the separation between the Northern culture and the Malwish culture. The Malwish Empire has its own prime minister and its own military that is distinctly Malwish, and has no cultural features in common with the Northerners that I noticed. This is especially interesting as it suggests the tension between the north and south is still unresolved, and possibly a big part of what drives their rapid technological advancement (and aggressive territorial expansion).“ I this is only partly correct the Malawish empire is clearly interchangeable with Scadrial to out siders clearly there has been some kind of resilusion to the conflict that left the southerners in a dominant position
  6. We know that they have multiple colonies. And that they have access to Aether if they’re going around colonizing Aether worlds then it’s likely that would make them enemies of the Aethers
  7. Remember that a good portion of knight radiance already worked for retribution. Given that this was a sky breaker or at least seem to be it’s safe to assume that he worked for a retribution. I suspect that retribution will continue controlling most of Roshar until era 4
  8. Based on the information that we have so far, I would like to propose this theory. I admit my evidence is a little thin but hear me out. I believe that the end of error 3 will parallel front half storm light. 1. Victory for the south. the southerns will conquer most, but not all of the they’ll make some sort treaty with the remnant of independent states, promising peace. This will parallel the victory for the singers in Stormlight. This would explain why the southerners, appear to be the dominant force. And seem to be synonymous with the planet as a whole, as far as outsiders, are concerned. 2. The transformation of Harmony into discord. This will parallel the ascension of retribution. This has been foreshadowed a lot already. 3. Civil War and major defeat for the ghost bloods. This has already been forshadow in stormlight and in LM. And if we continue with the idea of the parallel the knight’s radiance suffered a major defeat and reduction in power as a result of the end of Stormlight. I think the ghost bloods will suffer a similar fate. 4. Era 4 will focus on an alliance between the ghost bloods and the Knights. Against there separate enemies. Who are also fighting each other.
  9. I see thank you it’s been a while since I read that book. I think it might even been a decade.
  10. Why would Kel be against an empire? He has absolutely no reason not to push for empire after all this whole point is to make his planet strong being the center of the entire empire is pretty strong.
  11. Yeah, I would preferred if their guns made more allomantic sense. I was expecting something like extra fast bullets or something. Instead, they seem like standard lasers.
  12. Doesn’t the bands of Morning have harmonium in them isn’t that how they’re able to store Allomancy?
  13. Are you sure about that cause I think I remember reading someone saying that it didn’t do that pacifically and that instead it only worked on free investure again like storm might or breath. Do we have any examples of actual abilities been stored outside of harmonium? It seems to me like if you store abilities, you wouldn’t need medallions
  14. First to the main topic I would like to point out some things you missed 1. The”cloud” probably utilize a combination of A-copper ands A-Duralumin in harmonium 2. They appear to be using some form of invested power source probably also harmonium. To the reply You seem to be assuming that the mission on Roshar was important to him I do not think that was the case. Back that would point to the very fact he put someone there he didn’t fully trust and the fact that he didn’t fully supply her as proof that he didn’t consider Rocha to be a high priority. It was a tiny cell in a vast organization, one he probably didn’t interact with very often. True Roshar is a source of investigature but so is Dor and there are other sources. Likely he had similar cells on all of them.
  15. Last I remember that only stored free investure like stormlight or breath not active investure such as abilities I thought that was through harmonium? It has been years perhaps you been a decade since I read bands of morning so someone correct me
  16. Since when?
  17. That could be to just make it go faster I agree that given the name it sounds like F not A
  18. Probably right, Still I pretty sure they used copper of some kind probably with duralumin
  19. Hard to imagine weponized copper
  20. I think it’s created by charging Harmonium with copper and duralumin thoughts?
  21. Yes, actually my moral code comes from Christian ethics. Most people’s does it indirectly come from Christian ethics also. I highly doubt you actually believe you are morally ignorant. If so, then what is by what right do you have to judge the rapist or murderer? Again by your own logic, they claim that doing the right thing who are you to say differently if you come from a place of ignorance That’s the problem his philosophy doesn’t make sense. It’s the equivalent to answering the question and receiving back there are no answer answers. Worse is contradictory if it’s correct that there are no answers then Nail is right But that’s the problem what would be the point of reevaluating your beliefs if you can’t know for sure whether you’re wrong or right? There is no point because there’s no way to measure whether you’re current beliefs are wrong or whether the you could change to our right But even if you have this question and can’t answer it that doesn’t mean you can’t answer everything about morality completely I assume that even if you do not know the answer this question if I asked you if rape was wrong, you would give me an answer, correct. You wouldn’t say something like oh we’re all ignorant so I don’t really know.
  22. I mainly writing this to try to understand my own thoughts on this. I don’t really expect any replies, but if you do want to reply, that’s fine. A core theme of a Brandon is ignorance. Seems to portray everyone as ignorant wandering around in the dark, especially about things concerning morality. But the more I read to him, the more he uses this theme. The more dissatisfied with it I become. In This last book it particularly irked me. I’ve been trying to figure out why. more I think about it I think it comes down to that this even if it is true it is unbelievable from the human perspective. True, you can all say that we are all ignorant wandering in the dark, but no one really believes that at least no one I’ve met. True I’ve met people who say that they don’t actually have any moral knowledge only a moral perspective but when I actually confronted they vehemently insist that actually they KNOW murder is wrong, racism is wrong and so on. Real ignorance it seems should lead to stressful indecision or depressing nihilism. Both of which are mind rejects on our subconscious level. I think the reason why it particularly bothered me in this last book was because it seemed to go contrary to the theme of this book . Because if this is true then Nale is right. If it is true that everyone is coming from a place of ignorance concerning morality than the only thing you can do is trust in something beyond human. And hope that they or it is better. Well those are my thoughts take them as you will.
  23. 1 “Not really. Are you a religious figure to an ant or a dog? It seems like you're reverse engineering the term into a religious context. Have at it.” actually, you could argue that from some religious respective we are. The whole image of God thing and imaging God to the universe. 2. “You can hold it in your hand in a gem stone, you can store it in a cloth, it has mass (faint, but it exists), and spren have physical bodies in the cognitive realm and (sometimes, at least) in the physical. It followsconservation of mass and energy and can be quantified and measured reliably, though it certainly does have its own magical element to it. Elend has some interesting thoughts on the subject, though brief, in Well of Ascension (I think, I could be mistaken on the book). There is some interesting discussion to be had about where the physicality of Investiture breaks down, especially when the realms are not equally physical but are all places where you could physically go.” Wrong again spread and have cognitive bodies in the cognitive realm. Spren cannot have physical bodies unless they are pulled completely into the physical realm. They often do not survive the experience since cognitive bodies are not bound by the laws of physics and when converted into physical bodies, just cannot survive please read rhythm of war for further details. Wrong again investure sometimes has mass. Sometimes it does not. (Chromatic breath has no mass and neither does the soul both of which are made out of investure) Further proof that it’s not bound by physical laws. Brandon has periodically said that investure breaks the laws of thermal dynamics. This includes the laws of conservation of energy in indeed, without breaking these laws most magic systems would be impossible. I agree that investigature cannot be created or destroyed, but disagree that This is because of the law of thermodynamics, but probably more to do with the metaphysical nature of investure. 3. “I can help you out here with some people: everyone in this thread except for you, Sanderson, the lexicographers who compile the Merriam Webster dictionary, and all of the people whose uses informed that compilation. It seems, however, that we will have to disagree.” please give me one example of heretic being used in this context outside of this form and the books of Stormlight cause I cannot think of one I have never ever heard a Hindi refer to a Christian as a heretic. I’ve never heard a Christian refer to an atheist as a heretic. If you have one example of this, please show me.
  24. “extreme disparity in relative power/capacity/influence of some beings over others.” 1. You realize this qualifies you as being a God in most religions. 2. “I'd lean against suggesting that Cosmere magics are metaphysical because the books go to great lengths to establish that magic is a part of the physical universe” Do you not understand basic realmatics. Most investure isn’t even in the physical or originating from the spiritual realm by definition. It cannot be physical. Just like spring spren are by definition, not physical. More than that it is literally the body of a being that created the realms by definition it cannot be physical as something that predates the physical realm cannot be physical. Furthermore investure has been shown to easily break physical lawsinstead about it is bound by its own metaphysical rules. By definition, something that breaks physical laws cannot be physical. 3. I feel like we are just going to have to agree and disagree on heresy. I can’t think of a single person who’s ever used heresy in the way you insist that we use it but if you want to use it that way I really can’t stop you.
  25. “Yes. I sketched out an explanation in my earlier post and explicitly mentioned that it could be sloppiness in word choice on Jasnah's part (which would mean she's using a word without accounting for its connotations, including religious overtones), but more precisely the word "god" is frequently used in colloquial and poetic ways unrelated to religious statements. A concert billed as featuring "the gods of rock 'n' roll" is a concert claiming to have the most important rock 'n' roll groups performing, not promising a rock music-based religious event.“ using the word god that way is using it hyperbolically. In what way was she being hyperbolic in her statement? She’s talking a shard by definition it is metaphysical. Transcending the physical room entirely, with access to the cognitive and yes, spiritual realms. So I don’t see how this is irrelevant. 2.” or less commonly God : a being or object that is worshipped as having more than natural attributes and powers specifically : one controlling a particular aspect or part of reality. “ This definition fits retribution perfectly as such. She is not being hyperbolic when she refers to him as a god. “denial of a revealed truth by a baptized member of the Roman Catholic Church“ you noticed the baptized member part . Seems like it does contain that limitation. The world heretic itself originally means subset. Should be enough to tell you that you must be of the category to be heretic
