Ishek looked disturbed at the news of inquisitors being present, and felt even more disturbed by the presence of even more powerful hemalurgic constructs. Hide it. Don't let them see your weakness. He had to push that away, he couldn't let that grief consume him once more. For now, all Ishek could do was assist these people, he could not return to those times.
-
Ishek's face betrayed concern "there is use of Hemalurgy in Alleycity?" He grew even more concerned as he thought of the hemalurgic constructs he had encountered back on Scadrial. "Are there any creatures with spikes through their eyes? Creatures made powerful through hemalurgy?" His voice was tense, as if the worry were straining to break free through his words.

"I know some first aid. RUST if only I'd memorised some medical textbooks." He rushed forward and placed pressure on the wound and, using the sash he wore around his waist as a bandage, compressed his wound to restrict bloodflow. "I don't know much, it could have punctured his gut. We need to take him to the hospital, now."
-
After a long pause, long enough that it seemed he wasn't going to answer, Ishek replied "I too have experienced loss at the hands of those in power" Ishek hesitated, then seemed to grow hard once again. "But who hasn't? I have my reasons, as do you"

AonDor after Ascension

Then the answer to my question, was a yes. -
AonDor after Ascension
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I'd agree that he certainly did that. And either way, even if AonDor were to become usable anywhere, would not the Aons have to change depending on location? Whether or not access to the door is region locked I imagine the particular Aons still require that connection to location. -
AonDor after Ascension
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Would one perhaps be able to use the blue pool that Raoden found in a similar way Vin and Rashek used the Well of Ascension? Using that as an influx of investiture and then attempting to gather the pieces from the cognitive? Or is that pool not at all like the Well? -
AonDor after Ascension
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Well yes, that's basically what I was thinking in the first post. The only thing is, how would one ascend on Sel? -
AonDor after Ascension
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Well as far as I understand, the only thing locking the sellish magics to sel is the fact that the Dor is only in the cognitive realm of sel. I am not aware of any sort of connection issue between the Dor and Sel so I imagine it shouldn't be too difficult. And even so, I would assume a shard powerful enough to handle that. -
AonDor after Ascension
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Do you think this would make Sellish magics no longer region locked? In the spiritual realm location is irrelevant, so presumably an elantrian could draw effective Aons anywhere? -
Ishek tailed Laonin in his usual firm and confident gait, eyes always watching for signs of trouble. Ears, honed by tapping tin, reaching out into the orld around him, giving more warning than his eyes ever would. After some time Ishek regarded the short man in front of him. "Why do you do it" he asked, "really".

AonDor after Ascension
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I'm inclined to agree. Do you think that it would be possible for a shard to power Dor magics with themselves? Allowing part of their investiture to flow through and act as the Dor would, then discipate back into the world and return to their whole? -
So, AonDor functions, on an essential level, by creating a gateway (Aon) through which the Dor (trapped in the cognitive realm) may pass into the physical realm. The Dor, is a result of the splintered remains of devotion and dominion being crammed into the cognitive realm. So, if one were to ascend and somehow reforge the splintered remains of the two shards, what impact would this have on AonDor and the other magic systems on Sel? Would it still be capable of functioning in at all the same way? If there is no Dor to be channelled, then what's the point in AonDor? Would the ascended vessel be able to provide a fuel source for AonDor? Or would the magics of Sel simply revert to their more primal form before the splintering of the shards? If this is the case, what would happen to Elantris and the Elantrians? Or the Dakhor monks? Etc. Well, thanks in advance for your input.

The Surge of Transportation
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Fair enough then. From how I understood transportation, by entering the spiritual realm (which encompasses everywhere at once) you can then plomp yourself back down anywhere and then tansition into the physical realm. This wouldn't require entering the cognitive first, but I was simply basing my statements off the info you provided.- 15 replies

The Surge of Transportation
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Stormlight Archive
From what I understand, transportation requires the spiritual realm. I imagine that it'd be a very brief transition into the cognitive realm, which may be why they aren't obliterated.- 15 replies

The Surge of Transportation
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think I'm inclined to agree. I have a similar source of curiousity as to whether each order has a different version of each surge, a factor which I'd prefer as it adds more variety. Further, I like the idea that Willshapers would act as an intermediary with the spiritual realm in a way, as it would provide them an interesting place amongst the radiants.- 15 replies

Ishek walked over to the platter, prepared two sandwiches for himself and grabbed a mug of coffee, then sat himself back down beside Aeodin. He hadn't slept very much last night, inseead tapping his bronze mind so he could talk to the Elantrian -- he'd need to refill that at some point. In response to Laonin, he replied "I will accompany you and assist in whatever ways you may need, I have engineering treatises in my copperminds and a basic grasp of carpentry and masonry to aid you. Feruchemy is nothing of not practical" With that, he grabbed another sandwich and stuffed it into his mouth. This one's for later he thought to himself, storing the energy in a metalmind. Sitting back peacefully, he sipped on his coffee, content to sit in the company of Aeodin.

The Surge of Transportation
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Perhaps, but what would cause a location to be more 'in tune', if you will, with the surge? Also, yes the oathgates are very precise, but they are a machine set to certain locations only. I doubt a radiant wanting to teleport to those hills a few kilometres away would be as precise. There is room for human error, misjudgements of some form. But again, I'm not sure.- 15 replies

The Surge of Transportation
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Stormlight Archive
That was similar to what I thiugh may occur, I just wasn't sure. Would there then be similar limitations to teleportation with Aons? Does the deatination need to be precise and measured? Perhaps simply clearly visible? Or since they would travel similarly to an oathgate (as I believe oathgates are the fabrial equivalent of transportation) do issues of reappearing in the ground and such not apply?- 15 replies

So, as far as I know, the only way we have seen or heard of the surge of transportation being used is as 'elsecalling' by which the user teleported into the cognitive realm. But there are several references, such as when Teft explains the radiants' abilities to Kaladin, that radiants could travel great diatances in an instant. Is this another use of the surge transportation? Is it perhaps the way that Willshapers use the surge, where Elsecallers travel to Shadesmar instead? Thanks in advance for your input.

"I am" Ishek replied quietly. "Is he a feruchemist also?" A hint of eagerness entering his voice.
-
Ishek considered the man's words. "Your friend, an elantrian also?" @Kaladin78
-
As everyone prepared for sleep, Ishek considered doing the same. Then he noticed the Elantrian, sitting upright and alert, as if on watch. Tapping his bronze mind, Ishek sat himself beside the lean elantrian. "Your master, did you choose to be in his service?" @Kaladin78
-
"Those two are annoying" Ishek mumbled after the two newcomers left as spectacularly as they arrived. Then to Laonin he comtinued "But I am fine with this plan, I'll do my best to assist and, as said, will offer my protection"

Nightblood vs Shards
The Grumpy Elantrian replied to The Grumpy Elantrian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So perhaps a shardblade would block nightblood, but the mentioned 'ramifications' could be the gradual lee hing of investiture and it's eventual consumption?- 7 replies
