Night-Mare had heard of Altermind from the gossip around town. He was an illusionist, though which type wasn't well-known. After living on the border of Portland for years after receiving her powers, Mare had decided to leave the ranch and join with the Epic. She had heard all about the new Epics in town and the way all the minor Epics were choosing sides. She knew that if she didn't join with one group, she would be crushed. There was power in numbers.
Mare left in the mid-morning. She had gathered her most precious belongings, which weren't many, into a small saddle pack and created one of her Shadow Mares. She hated the feeling she had when she used her powers, but speed was important. "Come on, girl, show me the meaning of haste," Night-Mare said to her steed. They sped off towards Thoughttown in the northern part of town.
When Mare entered the city, she noticed a large amount of rats around. There hadn't been this many before, had there? In her power-fueled frustrated mood, she created another mare to devour the rats in her way. Her shadow elongated and shaped itself into a Shadow Mare. Its sharp teeth began to pierce rats and devour them. She also used her hooves to crush some of the vermin.
As she approached Thoughttown, she saw two others approaching the border ahead of her. One was a woman dressed as a nurse. The other, a man, looked like a construction worker. If they were heading into Thoughttown, they must also be Epics. Dismounting, Night-Mare dismissed her companions and her shadow regained it's regular shape. "Hello there, I'm Mare," Night-Mare called to the pair in front of her.
Chimera had decided, a short while after establishing himself in the zoo, that he would sell some of his Chimerans to profit. It also had the added benefit of spreading his army into enemies's bases of their own free will. At first, he had struggled with the obvious problem of gifting the control of the creatures to others. That could backfire on him. But, one zookeeper had an idea once. It was so simple, Chi wondered why he didn't think of it himself. Order the Chimerans to obey verbal commands from the buyer. Then Chi would retain mental control and be able to spread his control throughout the city. He bartered with customers. There was never a set price, though more valuable creatures cost more. He sent out griffins, rabbit and rat spies, and some unicorns. Occasionally, the buyer would have specific requests. Chi did what he could to meet that request.
