"There are rumors about lots of things involving Hemalurgy," she said. "Spikes likely have nothing to do with it. He told me a spren in a valley made him like that which I took to mean the Nightwatcher. Without asking him, we have no way of knowing for certain." Eve shrugged. "Maybe it was spikes though. They can tie a mistwraith down into a physical form with kandra. No reason to think the DA couldn't come up with a way to do the reverse. Make someone physical into a silenced mostly intangible thing and change their memories too so even they wouldn't know what happened..."

Harmony. Everything was connected. The opening of PlasmaCore, inviting the guilds. The frying pan creatures. The flickering of the shield. The flickering... That couldn't be good. Whoever had created it would have wanted to protect the Vortex from being seen. Their being inside the field was proof that something had gone wrong. Of the Vortex growing out of control? It seemed as innocent as a vortex could seem, spinning round and round, but looks could be deceptive. It was possible it wouldn't need to physically grow to become more powerful. Freedom looked at Silva. "Some things are pretty clear from the papers. PlasmaCore was a front and this scientist works for someone who works for a Lord Ajax who is planning on conquering AlleyCity through use of the Vortex. A better question would be, how do we shut it down, now, before anything else comes out of it?" @Darth Woodrack @Ax's Boyfriend --- "Try not to get too many spikes stuck in the furniture," Eiran told them hesitantly, glancing at the cookies one brought out. It was probably too much to ask of them though. He turned and went behind the counter to fix their drinks. The tea was easy enough. Coffee though...he didn't know if she wanted any sugar or cream in it. To be safe, he didn't stick any in and brought over a pitcher and container seperately after giving the cups to the two who'd requested. @ZincAboutIt @kenod @Voidus @AonEne

"Dehydration is nothing to underestimate," Eve said, tying off the thread. She put some disinfectant on the injury then wrapped it with a bandage. "Might not be an obvious health hazard, but it's still dangerous." Inwardly she hoped he'd pass out from it like she had earlier. Tels asked a lot of questions, and while she wasn't showing it on her face, a part of her was eager to get back to Alask's papers. She started to clean up. "The Haunt...he's an interesting case. I don't blame him for how he's wound up, but at the same time, it's not something I can condone. You know what I mean? "I sympathize with him. He made a mistake and suffered because of it. Regretted it. Yet, the moment he has a chance to try again, to be better, he relapses. He gives in to his selfish wants again. Nothing changed. Not even after hundreds of years of watching and listening," she sighed and wiped off her hands. "Not much we can do besides try and be nice and be his friend, like he said before you got here," she said, indicating to Mart.

That's exactly why TUBA's baked goods are better. We put in time, effort, and quality without the added metallic taste.

DIDGERIDOO, the Delicious Inspired Distinct Great Eating Resturant, and Innovative Developers Of Orders. Never had Eiran been so glad to see that sign. The door was locked, but he had a key. He didn't check to see if the DA members followed him in and instead got to work making sure the place was secure inside. And to disable some of the security mechanisms. As funny as it would be to see them coated in cookie dough, it probably would be helpful in the long run. "Well," he said, finally addressing them since they'd arrived. "Deteca should be here shortly. Do you want anything in the meanwhile? Chocolate chip cookies? Fortune cookies? Sugar cookies? Sprinkle cookies?" There were more types, but he wasn't very involved in the baking department. Memorizing every type of cookie was not something he'd done before. @Voidus @ZincAboutIt @AonEne @whoever else should be here or coming here

"A lot. Most people would be shaken too if a frying pan creature stepped out of a portal in front of them," Eve said to Tels, then looked back at Lena's arm. She threaded the needle and knotted the end. "You might want to look away," she told Mart. "Or head over to your mum's other side." The idea was simple enough. Start out to keep the knot out then in and out. Seal it shut. As neatly as possible. Eve picked up a clean looking disposable towel from nearby to wipe away some blood off Lena's arm and got to work.

Freedom followed them up. During her climb she'd shifted through some ages to determine which was easiest. It turned out that her obssession with hanging off things as a child had been good for something. Before she left the shaft, though, she made sure to return to the slightly older age than normal that she'd been using before. --- "Not too far. Two more blocks," he said. Eiran picked up his pace. The sooner they got there, the calmer he'd be and the sooner he could return to assisting with the evacuation.

"I'm sure Mrs. Gabaldon will understand why you didn't do it." If she were even still alive. Eve thought morbidly. "For now, all you need to worry about is staying safe and happy. Everything else, your mum, Alask, and I will take care of." Hopefully. She looked over at Alask. He was searching through a bag for something. Probably one of Lena's medicines. Her mind shifted back to Mart and the Haunt. "Before the fog the ghost was invisible. No one saw him. Ever. Unless he focused and covered himself with dust. Even then, though, he was easily dismissed," she paused. "He was lonely. The fog made him seen, but the damage was already done. He can't figure out how to interact without being desperate for attention. It's really sad." “Hey Eve? You wouldn’t happen to know how to sew a wound shut, would you?” Alask asked. Eve shrugged. "I know the theory of it. Maybe that's enough?" Someone began knocking at the door. "If they're dangerous, we won't let them in," Eve reassured Mart. Lena opened the door. A man stumbled in and introduced himself. “Just came back from the Alleycity, an Aisha-forsaken place right now. I don’t suppose you’ve been there recently? Great time to pick up some loose change, if you catch my drift, but real dangerous, nearly died a few times. Where’s that water?” "Tels," she told him. "What's happening there has happened here too. Technically, we're still inside the city.

A building collapsed on the creature. Eiran blinked. That was fast. He sent a quick message to Joe explaining the current situation and giving him control of the evacuation group. "So which way?" the other woman asked him. He knew the way from below like the back of his hand. Memorizing the tunnel maps was something he'd figured would be useful in the long run. On the surface was another question. The tunnels did mostly follow under streets to protect privacy of residences, so he wagered a guess. "Left."

Eiran had no reaction to the phone being plucked out of his hand. He'd seen it happen a few seconds before it did and hadn't thought it worthwhile to prevent it from happening. Precognition was fun, at least when it didn't involve seeing people's deaths. So instead of the embarrassing gaping expression in his vision, he simply smiled. For once he'd known something ahead of them. "...you do it yourself," he said. "For the record though, I'm not an 'underling'." Eiran glanced down at his watch, nervously. "A frying pan creature should be arriving here very soon, so unless you fancy an encounter with one, let's get to Didgeridoo. 5...4...3...2...1..." @ZincAboutIt

"C-c-cartwright's Boarding House," he said, relaying what the woman said. He turned to her, covering the microphone on his phone. "Really? Cartwright's? THE Cartwright's Boarding House?!" he asked excitedly, terror gone temporarily. Then Eiran remembered where he was and who he was with. The fear returned in full force. "Sorry," he muttered sheepishly. "It's a not all that well known historical site." He uncovered the microphone. "Seventeenth Alley. About ten minutes from Didgeridoo. 38th sector of the evacuation grid," he told Deteca. "They also said they don't have much time for games." @AonEne

Eve put a comforting arm around Mart. A ghost he'd said. She swallowed. The Haunt. It had to be. Unless there were any other invisible beings floating around the city. It fit with what she knew about him so far. A want to be seen and acknowledged derived from years of floating unheard. "I met the ghost before," she said softly to Mart. "Before the fog came. Before he became as scary as he is now." He could knock though.
-
She picked up. "What's up? Are the tunnels holding up? He breathed out a sigh of relief. "Yeah, yeah. They're fine," he said. "I'm really sorry for bothering you, but there are these DA people talking to me and they want to talk to you in person and I wasn't going to bring them anywhere without asking you first since you were probably at-" Eiran cut off the sentence before mentioning Tena. "Anyways, they're kind of terrifying and what should I tell them?" It felt good to let it out, even as hurriedly as he had. He gave a nervous glance at the women near him. His heart was still pounding hard.

"I'm Eve," she said. She looked at the bear for a moment before turning to the cabinets. There wasn't anything in them that might appeal to Mart. Instead, Eve pulled out a small bar of chocolate from her pocket. She'd swiped it from the apartment before she'd left on a whim. "I don't think we have any cake here. Do you like chocolate?" she asked, setting it down in front of him. The bear's missing arm wasn't something easily solved. "That bear of yours is a brave one. He'll be okay. He probably is going to brag about that battle scar for years to come. Maybe he'll even get a new arm to replace it," she said. "And Alask'll fix up your mum. She'll be alright too. No more frying pan people will be able to hurt you two. Everything's going to be fine..." The attempts to reassure Mart were just as much for her as they were for him. Then it hit her. Lena had a cut, not a blunt injury. It couldn't have been a frying pan creature thing. It was something else. But what else could it have been?

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Silva replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
*hugs* Like Ene said, belief is a very personal thing. But it's also something that tends to get passed down in families, so when you don't conform to everything exactly as they did it, it can be hard. Know yourself, know what you know, and know that in a few years it can be up to you to make those decisions. And on age, try to think about things from their perspective. They might not be right to do everything they do, but they do what they believe is best, even if it doesn't feel like it. At the same time, do question, just make sure it's logical and not simply meaningless teenage stereotype fitting questioning. If you can show why you shouldn't be treated the way they've restrained you, then they'll be more likely to listen. We're here for you as well, if you need anything.
