  1. Dan kept on metaphorically thumping his tail while wondering at the fact that Shae wasn’t anybody else’s best friend until he faintly realized that he was sitting on a tower... in the middle of the night... with Shae. “Uh,” Dan said, “uh, should I take you back to your room.” @ShadowLord_Lith
  2. “If I had a tail,” Dan noted as he wiggled his shoulders a little in enjoyment, “it would be thumping on the ground right now. Really hard, like I wanted to bash somebody’s skull in with it.” Great gruesome metaphor. Do I ever think about what I say before I say it? ”Wait, hold it,” Dan said, looking over at Shae sharply. “You’ve never been a best friend.” He said it deadpan. How... that didn’t make any sense. Shae was so nice. @ShadowLord_Lith
  3. "Hmm, thanks," Dan said as he slumped a little. "Imma promote you to best friend for this." Dan didn't have any other friends, but Shae didn't know that. He stopped talking and let his tongue loll out again. @ShadowLord_Lith
  4. "Uh, okay," Dan said, surprised, "since you're not opposed to it or anything...?" He tipped his head over towards Shae, not far enough that his horns would hit him. @ShadowLord_Lith
  5. Dan suddenly became conscious of the fact that he was dogging out again, and straightened up, bringing his tongue back inside his mouth. "Sorry," he mumbled, looking away from Shae with a blush spreading over his face. "That was dumb. I'm sorry." @ShadowLord_Lith
  6. Dan melted a little and his tongue involuntarily flopped out of his mouth. He smiled at the feeling, and felt a barely-suppressible urge to lick Shae's face. @ShadowLord_Lith
  7. "Adrenaline is my middle name, with my job and flying," Dan said, looking at Shae's face. Shae had a nice smile; happy and carefree. Dan tipped his head up and perked his ears forward, smiling as the cold wind hit his face and brushed at the inside of his ears. It was a nice night. @ShadowLord_Lith
  8. Dan chuckled nervously. "A heart attack would be bad." Then he said, "So, I'm going to go down to the tower, okay? It's going to be a little fast and zigzag-y, but you'll be fine." He caught another downdraft (thankfully, it was fairly windy today) and started circling down to the tower. He would've just dove and spun around at the end, usually, but Shae would probably actually have a heart attack if Dan did that, so he took the slower route and got down to the tower's sloped roof in a few minutes, concentrating on not dropping Shae. When he touched down, he set Shae on the roof, which wasn't very badly sloped, then sat down and spread his wings out around him. @ShadowLord_Lith
  9. "I just kinda thought that talking would be easier, uh, if we didn't have to talk over the wind. I was gonna land on the tower of the Cathedral." @ShadowLord_Lith
  10. Dan blushed and said, "I'm not gonna drop you, don't worry." He banked and caught another updraft, since Shae apparently didn't want to go back down. @ShadowLord_Lith
  11. "Very funny," Dan said, blushing a bit, then calming his face back to normal. "I get an urge to chase moving things all the time, and yes, the ears do feel good when they get scratched behind." He looked out and around the open sky, then caught a downdraft and started losing altitude. @ShadowLord_Lith
  12. “Yes, a lot, and no,” Dan said. “See my ears? I get them from my dad, who was Tesan. I look and act like a dog a lot of the time. And I agree that dogs are the best. It’s a Tesan thing for me, since we all love dogs.” @ShadowLord_Lith
  13. “I’ve never actually been to the planet my parents are from,” Dan said. “I do sometimes want to see them, but I’m practically an adult, so, I mean, I can do stuff without them around. It’s nice, actually, since I don’t have to deal with them all the time.” He half-scowled. “I sound like a teenager. Sorry, I just like not having to be at someone else’s beck and call against my will.” He thought about the last thing Shae had said before saying, “I like being able to rub it everyone else’s faces that they can’t be a hawk-dog, honestly. When I’m not flying, I’m just a normal, crazy-claustrobic human.” I shouldn’t have said that. @ShadowLord_Lith
  14. “Well, I haven’t for a while. She went back to the planet my species is native to, but I stayed.” @ShadowLord_Lith
  15. “On a tropical island on the other side of this planet,” Dan said simply. “Which is why I never wear a shirt.” @ShadowLord_Lith
  16. A weird little explosion of warmth burst out in Dan’s chest as Shae said that he trusted Dan. He trusts me. That’s good. Wait, why is it good? Instead of thinking further about that, he said to Shae, “Unless you managed to pin my wings, which I doubt you could do, I wouldn’t actually fall, even if I still lost altitude. Anyway, I wouldn’t drop you on purpose unless you wanted me too. My ma says that it’s rude.” Now I’m talking like a twelve year-old. That’s even better. @ShadowLord_Lith
  17. “Oh, okay,” Dan said, relieved that Shae wasn’t mad at him. He kept flying for a moment, then said, “Aren’t you scared of falling, like if I drop you and don’t go to catch you?” @ShadowLord_Lith
  18. “Can you not see without tin?” Nosy! That is not the question I should’ve asked... just gotta wait until he decides that he hates me... @ShadowLord_Lith
  19. “With these,” Dan flapped his wings a few extra times, “yes. Whenever I can. Flying is wonderful. I just love the wind and the stinging of it on my face, and the cold, and how fast it is, and how high in the air I can go, and the openness of the air, how I can just fly forever...” He smiled. “It’s all the greatest parts of life combined into one.” @ShadowLord_Lith
  20. Dan felt a clashing of emotions in his head as he looked down at Shae’s face, gliding on an updraft. What if I’m not fast enough, and he dies? That would not be good. I can’t see as well in this weather. I’d lose my only friend if he died... “Uh, I’m not going to drop you. It’s a bad idea.” @ShadowLord_Lith
  21. “Sisters, you’re fast,” Dan said, jogging over to Shae. He made a face at Shae, then picked the little guy up in the dark. “Yeah, it seems like a bad idea to do this at night, but hey.” He flew up for a few minutes, his eyes instantly adjusting to the dark so that it looked normal, but grainier, sort of. When the dorms building was small enough, he looked at Shae nervously and said, “Ready?” @ShadowLord_Lith
  22. “It’s just faster,” Dan said. “Seriously. And it’s fun. You can’t tell me that you don’t like jumping out windows.” @ShadowLord_Lith
  23. “I’m not just risking your life,” Dan pointed out. “I myself could have a seizure or heart attack or whatever and we could both die instead.” He rolled his shoulders out and stretched his wings, though Shae’s room was small enough that his wings couldn’t fully extend. “This is a second-floor room, right?” Dan asked, walking over to the window and tugging it open. He looked down at the ground outside of the building, then folded in his wings completely and jumped out, landing on the ground in a roll, though the impact still jarred his shoulders. He stood up and called at Shae, “Jump out.” @ShadowLord_Lith
  24. “Aye,” Dru said. She’d always wanted to explore the world, and here was her chance.
  25. So he wants to ignore the other thing too. Great, so do I. “I could throw you around in the air a few times,” Dan offered. “It’s pretty fun, for both of us, and maybe the air’ll get rid of my headache. You have a headache too, right?” @ShadowLord_Lith
